  1. Once Groundspeak's Waymarking gets rolling I'm sure a sub-category for Campgrounds - Canada will be created and eventually have all types listed. Olar
  2. Your fixes worked fine Fizzymagic. The date now displays and all caches are listed. Ok, I've tried another test track of 6.5 Km in distance with 139 waypoints. The program hung-up at the point where it would start listing the individual waypoint detail (see screenshot below). I managed to zero in on 3 different waypoints that seemed to be causing the problem for whatever reason. Without those 3 then it completes as expected. Looking at the waypoint properties I can see no hint as to why they are any different. Their proximity to the track is close enough that they would have been listed. It's a mystery to me. If it's any value to you Fizzy I can send you the .gpx file. Cheers, Olar
  3. Hey, another neat application from the Fizzymagic. I just happened to have a loop hike with 6 caches handy so I gave it a try. Some early observations on it are: the hike date was not picked up cache number 4 was not detailed (I found it - honest!) the time of day is out by 3 hours (eastern vs pacific?) This can be very helpful for record keeping purposes. I like to file my active track for decent hikes but they are never linked to the caches involved, at least not with this amount of information. Thanks Fizzy. Olar edited to correct time zone name
  4. That sounds good to me Jeff. I certainly would be willing to contribute towards the cost of the plaque and it's installation. One thing I've been wondering is what became of the committee alluded to in Ken's initial post and an indication of what resulted from the first meeting: One other historical reference that might be included in the plaque's text is the name of the FTF cacher and the date. Geocaching is all about "hiding and seeking" so the FTF'er is as significant as the original cache owner. Cheers, Olar
  5. I realize you mentioned that you do not want to buy over the internet, however I would highly recomment GPS Central in Calgary. Numerous geocachers deal with them and enjoy competitive prices and good service and being out-of-province there is no provincial sales tax to pay. If you are concerned about security then you can place your order through their website and then phone the toll-free number afterwards and discuss payment options. By the way you have made an excellent choice in GPSr. You will love the 76C and yes I did have it shipped from Alberta. Cheers, Olar
  6. I would strongly suggest finding an alternate source. Dealing directly with a manufacturer would be advantageous in that the OGA would retain exclusive rights to the coin's distribution and possibly even get ownership of the die(s) and paint masks. Dealing through a third party in the equation, especially if located in Georgia, just adds more cost to the project and increases the chances of un-authorized sales at a later date. Olar
  7. The sad part is I sincerely doubt we will ever see one in a cache. These are strictly intended as collector items. The only reason they have tracking numbers is for personal use and not for the purpose as originally intended by Groundspeak. One day we'll have a true Ontario Geocaching coin, designed by Ontario cachers, and sold only to Ontario cachers. Olar
  8. Did P.T. Barnum just pass through Ontario?
  9. You may want to check your coords. They put you out in the Pacific off of the Mexican coast. Nowhere near the zip code. Olar
  10. I would suggest making sure you have the latest firmware version on your unit. I had a look at the "fixes" and noticed on one upgrade a reference to the recording of tracklogs being effected depending on the altimeter on/off setting.???? I'm not a 76S owner so I cannot comment on that at all. Maybe your manual details that area. Cheers, Olar
  11. That is what you would normally see on the map page when navigating in the "off road" mode. Also in the compass page the pointer will always point to the cache while you are moving. The "off road" setting is what you would use when on foot and hiking to the cache area. Sounds to me like you may be trying to "autoroute" using the basemap on the unit which probably had limited street detail in your area and thus it is creating a roundabout route to your destination. You would have to obtain more detailed maps that will allow autorouting on your unit like Mapsource City Select. I believe there is one available for the U.K. Cheers, Olar
  12. Make sure you check-marked which day (today?) you want the PQ to deliver and also the email address that it is to be sent to. You should also choose the .gpx format and zipped. Cheers, Olar
  13. From your "My Account" page over on the right hand side. Cheers, Olar
  14. Looks like the Nuvi is one of the new Garmin units designed specifically for use in your car for autorouting to any installed points-of-interest. Coordinates for geocaches are downloaded via the POI Loader program available from Garmin's site as a free download. The loader requires coordinates in a .csv file format. A search on POI Loader here in the forums will yield a few discussion threads on the subject. Olar

    What's This Mean

Thanks I'd never seen that before. Neither had I PDOP's. GC.com trackable geocoins are rare in Canada so we never see that icon. We are getting an Ontario coin that will be trackable very soon though. You can see it here. Cheers, Olar
  16. I looked at Garmin's site and read about this neat little unit. Looks great for in-car use but doesn't appear it would lend itself very well to using as a handheld for geocaching. Sounds like you could download various coordinates as custom points-of-interest with the free POI Loader from Garmin but you will not see necessary data needed to find a cache. I did a search on the POI Loader and found a few discussions about the very subject. Have a look at: This one another one a third one a fourth Good Luck, Olar
  17. Not too many options other than dropping one of the maps. Olar
  18. I did a search on "bad HTML" and got some good hits. Here is the most recent discussion in which the author of Spinner (Lil Devil) responds. You may want to contact him for any further insight. Cheers, Olar
  19. It would by wise to answer PDOP's question which would help us to help you. This problem has occured in the past and often has been due to a cache page creator using "bad HTML" that Plucker doesn't like. The author's of the applications PDOP refers to have usually been able to come up with a fix. Olar
  20. Maybe not wildlife in the true meaning but I got a kick out of this sign found on a trail to a cache recently. The dangerous "beasts" were in corrals just behind.
  21. Sounds as though you are not putting in your password which is required and located at the very top of the edit page as opposed to the edit button which is at the bottom. Catches me all the time. Cheers, Olar

  23. Their liability insurance may only cover customers of their "commercial venture" but I definitely have no knowledge on the subject at all. Olar
  24. Does the Legend autoroute? I know the Legend C does. Olar
