  1. Know the area well and was/still planning one right in the middle, but then I think I have just given the game away. Thought they might go for the gravel first then bank up. It will be like the Didcot towers, see it from miles away
  2. But Gary, having done it, I would recommend that the start point is always Gt Bedwyn so thats it is a downhill cycle ride. As the saying goes, 'Let the train take the strain' It was more than knackering downhill anyway although it was on June 20 with full sun allday. If I recall the parking at Gt Bedwyn Station is free!
  3. There is a chance that Dave will add a dedicated GeoBike part to his GeoHike site. What is required are routes! Macroderma well aware of this development. Anyone up for it?
  4. I had planned it carefully down to 112 miles and due to a diversion or two Jolly Jaxs said that it was something like 136miles. So, I still have a cunning plan.
  5. As some of you are well aware, Alibags, Jolly Jaxs, KiwiGary and myself managed the quest yesterday in 14 hours. We also had a great deal of fun, some of that at my expense and probably due to my straight line mentality, but it does help being 6'3". However I am still more than impressed by Jaz666, Moote and Rutson's 10 hours 50 mins time to complete it (although I am informed that World Rally Championship style driving does help somewhat) and am willing to offer, without taking anything away from MarcB brilliant series, advice to any team who wants a crack at that record. But that will have to be next year. For I have a cunning plan.
  6. Colin Young is the husband of my wife's old school friend who is a producer for Radio Shropshire. I see if I can get in a good word for you.
  7. For what it is worth I think that all 3 events are a ******* great idea! The idea of a blurry breakfast meet up next morning especially so. My only question is dear old Ronald MacDonald. I appreciate that on a Sunday morning there cannot be much open to eat in apart from maybe a Sainsburys or Tescos cafe, but it does seem rather ironic that after a CITO meet, the place of assembly is none other than an establishment (and fast food outlets in general) that produces a lot of trash that we see blowing around our streets. I do hope I can make it down and assist in the clear up and maybe to plant a kiss or two on a few foreheads of those who have been inadvertently offended by my point of view.
  8. All runs fine on my Acer Pda with the maps on the SD card. Only thing I have to remember is to fully close down the program before turning off, and not having it 'on' in the background. If you follow the help file in Fugawi, although very brief, transfering of map portions/ waypoints etc is very easy.
  9. With handbags flying in the wee small hours this morning centering on the question of premium membership fees, thought it may well be a good opportunity to air the question fully. I do pay to be a premium member, but cannot say that I trouble its additional features. (frankly not worth it imho). No, I look on it as a magazine subscription, (with two coming through my door @£120 per annum), 30$ is peanuts, and gets used far more than the paper type. So how do others justify subscribing or not?
  10. Odd as it is the height of the day in the USA and it is still Saturday. Thinking just the same. But then, what are we doing up at now, 1:53am!
  11. Too many handbags flying around. At 1:30am its suddenly gone express fast!
  12. So should the cache be a Letterbox, Multi or Puzzle? My apologies to non premium members you won't be able to see the cache just yet. It will however be available for all in a couple of weeks. Oh by the way, I won't be changing it, just wanted to hear opinions. Like the setup HH but I would put it down as a puzzle, but its touch and go. The letterbox 'stamp' signature on the log is purely incidential.
  13. Bringing back on to subject, please do as HH wisely says.
  14. Name that cache! We do not need locations like this unless its GCJ7A0 'What a Load of Rubbish' which comes with suitable health warnings, and is a lesson to us all about the amount of rubbish we generate.
  15. Thanks SP and all the others. The photo is of my dad taking me 'out to play' in Jan '57 (we won 5-1 btw). Yesterday I took hom 'out to play' (he's an ex-para, and they are all mad!) cheers Tony
  16. Punting season starts at Easter, although I would recommend the pegolo as a means of getting around especially if you are a punting virgin. Always drop me a line if you want more detailed info. Looks like I will need to do a bit of cache maintainance before the weather warms up.
  17. As my birthday is 22/02 I'll let you guess what the year is. I'm taking my dad who is 79 to Alpha Quest Y this coming saturday.
  18. No MM would be a stupid record to record anyway.
  19. This is the profile of a newbie of one day less than three months. I know newbies are keen but this is taking it a bit too far. I would have thought we might have another SP in our midsts. But I somehow don't think so. What does the forum think?
  20. But can it handle ! as in N51 45.3(A-1)3 W001 15.3((4!/(3!x2!))0 From GCR2J5
  21. I think 50 miles is a bit too far even 10 miles is in my opinion, you have to think that a lot of cachers don't have their own transport and cache by bike or public transport. It's not fair if they solve all the clues hoping to find it the same day, and find that it may be a year before they can reach the place? It is dependent on how difficult the puzzle caches are. I dont expect anybody to solve any of mine on the spot but to undertake a fair bit of homework (and the odd email to me) first. This has been true of all my puzzle caches to date. But then, maybe I'm a Sadist.
  22. The problem with too close a limit is that it gives the game away for puzzle caches as the first couple of coords are then almost given. If its a multi, then 3 to 5 is perfectly adequate, but for puzzles then the distance should be much greater. (50 miles?)
  23. However if you live in Thame (Oxfordshire) there is a mere 600 within 20 mile radius
  24. For all the belief that Oxford is a hot spot from my house (inside the ring road) the first 100 fall within a 7 mile radius. But under 12 miles for 200 though.
