  1. When you log on and click on your name in the top right corner of the screen, caches from the past 30 days show up. If you have not cached in 30 days, none will show up. The line below My logs (30 days) has links to show all logs for; Caches, Bug, or Benchmarks. Click on the cache one and your logs should show up. If this is not what you are asking or if you have already, please disregard.
  2. When I use the map setting, I do better than when I use the compass setting.
  3. No problems traveling with GPS or batteries in my carryon here. Have taken batteries in my carryon through so many airports worldwide. Taken the GPS on my last trip to Taiwan through Japan.
  4. I received mine on Tuesday and they have to be my favorite coin so far. They are beautiful. Thanks for making these.
  5. Hi from north Iowa. I should say chilly and white north Iowa.
  6. At this point, I am in the beginning stages of caching and print off information. I usually print just the first few pages and then if there is something in the logs I have not printed, I will write that on the first page. Hmm, wonder if my old Palm is to old. Will have to check into that. Since I have a laptop, haven't used it in a long time, hmm.
  7. I have just started using my Venture and I have not loaded any maps. I do have a system in the car so when I need to drive somewhere, that is the one I use.
  8. I a wondering if you would get answers by checking out the state forums for the states along your route. Maybe read in those forums and contact a member for their input? I was not into geocaching last year when we were down to Ft. Leonard Wood, though I have met a woman online who did some when they were there this summer. The Post is along your route, about halfway between St. Louis and Springfield. I agree that a couple of quality caches would be better than a whole lot of them when traveling with the kids. By the way, enjoy the holidays with your son. Having a deployment looming has to really be hard, but am glad you are able to make it down to Hood to see him before he deploys.
  9. Other cachers know things. They know all the tricks of trying to cover up what we are doing. If he wasn't a cacher, he would have thought, cool, and gone on with things.
  10. From the cache types page (http://www.geocaching.com/about/cache_types.aspx) Virtual Cache A virtual cache is a cache that exists in a form of a location. Depending on the cache "hider," a virtual cache could be to answer a question about a location, an interesting spot, a task, etc. The reward for these caches is the location itself and sharing information about your visit. Because of the nature of these geocaches, you must actually visit the location and acquire the coordinates there before you can post. In addition, although many locations are interesting, a virtual cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit. Virtuals are now considered waymarks on Waymarking.com. These types are no longer available for creaton at geocaching.com but those that were created before they were no longer allowed are allowed to stay.
  11. I like the idea of the brochure. Thanks for that link, Frank. We were doing a virtual in a cemetery and this older couple stops their car to ask me about my car. Then they asked if we had someone there. I told them we had heard about this interesting headstone of a musician and had stopped by to see it. They seemed satisfied.
  12. Well, the closest one to me is 6.6 miles and it seems no one can find that one. So, in my area of the country, one needs some sort of transportation to get to them. Let's see, I geocache with a GPS (2 actually, one for the car and one handheld one), use a Mac and drive a newer car. Guess that qualifies me as being an elitist, according to the posts here. Hmm, cool. Never thought that before.
  13. Networking is networking. People here can find more on Facebook and the people on Facebook can find IGO. I see it as a win-win. I am trying to find if there are people in my area and the more places I have to look for fellow cachers, the better.
  14. I have just started using the Venture Hc and so far am liking it. I am just getting use to using it. I know that I am not using all of it's potential at this point. I am able to click the send to GPS from the caches on geocaching.com using my Mac and that was important to me. That and the USB connection.
  15. I would be interested in a couple of these too.
  16. I like this coin too. Will look forward to the opportunity for purchasing a couple.
  17. Taipei on Oct. 4, Chiayi the 5 -9, Kunding 10-12 then the 13th fly home from Taipei. Have you been to Taiwan before? This will be my second time there.
  18. I am new and I agree that these changes would be greatly appreciated, along with being able to delete the bookmark category.
  19. I already own a nuvi200 for travel and have used it some for geocaching. I just (today) ordered the eTrex Venture HC and should receive it sometime the first to middle of next week. I was also planing on using the nuvi or my own knowledge of an area to get to the areas and then the eTrex from there. I am going with the Venture for the price I was able to get and that it has the cables needed to connect to my computer already with it.
  20. Thanks. That was the information I was finding online too. So, I think I shall return the eTrexH and get the Venture HC. Looks like I would spending the same or less, have only one connecting cord and a unit with more on it. I was trying to avoid spending this much, but looks like that would be very frustrating for me to use so the extra $$ would be worth it.
  21. I purchased the eTrex thinking it would be a good handheld for geocaching. Now, with further investigation, I am not so sure. We have a nuvi200 for the car and I can link my nuvi to my computer using my camera cable and load geocaches in it easily. Well, with investigating how to do the same, it looks like I will need the cable for the eTrex along with an adaptor so I can link it to my computer. My computer does not have a serial port. So, it looks like to get both, I would be spending about another $100. Am is figuring this right? If I am, I think I will be returning the eTrex and looking for other options.
  22. Hope you had a good time in Taiwan. I am headed there in Oct. Am wanting to find one or two caches there.
