  1. # 47 (Muddy JR) Looks great! Thanks for adding him! We would like to buy a few of these coins when they come out.
  2. Coin Name Submittal: My son, Joshua aka Muddy JR, got to meet the winning designer Little Lizzard while out geocaching. We saw his mother yesterday morning at a Breakfast event and got to see his original artwork in person. LL is a very artisitc (and musically inclined) child. He did a great job on this coin. Please consider my sons geo-handle for the back of the coin. His very fitting (for almost any greo-boy) handle is Muddy JR. He caches with us all the time and loves it. He would love to be associated with a coin that he has had the opportunity to meet the designer in person. Added: BTW Joshua is 8.5 years old. Thanks!!!
  3. you can download the users manual here for all the specs... http://www.garmin.com/products/manual.jsp?...ct=010-00358-00
  4. Heres whats allowed and not allowed at Heathrow....This link is speific to this airport and it does mention electric items in here... http://www.heathrowairport.com/assets/B2CP...d_CantDec06.pdf Additional info here http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/cont...036821c0a____#6
  5. What platform is on your comp? Windows 95, XP, Vista, Mac?
  6. When we joined geocaching.com last month, we took a good look at all the types of caches currently listed. When we came across the ghost icon and read the definition to it, my wife and I were both really excited about this one...only to read 20 minutes later that only grandfathered geocaches are allowed. This style of cache is certainly worth having on gc.com. Im gald to see a poll on here for this subject. You have 2 yes votes here to bring it back. The people on this tread voting no could always nto bother going to look for these types...I bet most that disagree with this type of cache would go out and hunt a few locals anyway just to up their found counts. Muddy and Amused (Husband and Wife Team). Petition signed.
  7. Best thing to do is start here... http://www.geocaching.com/track/travelbugfaq.aspx
  8. If its your own bug, or you have owers permission/instructions to ship over seas you can find a receiver for it here at http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=51
  9. On Order: Garmin GPSMap 60CSx Used to have: TOMTOM Navigator 6 bluetooth I used on my Palm Tungsten T5.
  10. Im not sure you would want to be lugging something that size through brush where it most likely wont work anyway (off road). You may want to considser the Garmin GPSMAP 60csx which, when used with the optional city select software, has autoroutable door to door directions, plus you can use it off road (in the brush as well). Check it out here at http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap60csx/
  11. You can download the owners manual (for free) for the Vista here at http://www.garmin.com/products/manual.jsp?...ct=010-00243-00 and the Vista CX here http://www.garmin.com/products/manual.jsp?...ct=010-00439-00
  12. Muddy, stop wasting time here!! just get yourself the 60CSX... basically its the best one for its features Period! NOW GO AND GET IT! Actually im not wasting time...Im gald I posted as I learned quite a bit....things not in the owners manuals. I am happy to say I have decided on 60csx mainly due to the sirfstar III chip and the removable SD cards. I have received more answers (thank you all) on here in the last three days then any help, rather lack thereof, from garmins tech department in the past 3 weeks!
  13. You could also try the truth and handing them a brochure....see below.... http://www.geocacher-u.com/ http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/brochure.html - actual brochre link Especially if its a LEO.
  14. Have you asked the person who hid the cache for a hint? I would be very unhappy to have spoilers for my puzzles posted in the forums. I am not especially happy when others provide hints in private. On the other hand, I have had a number of folks contact me and explain how they went about trying to solve one of mine and got stumped. I have no problem walking them through it, either with a brief hint or to conclusion. But, I don't think it is anyone else's place to do so. Dave_W6DPS I completely agree with the above. I love spending time on creating puzzles for others to solve. I would also hate to see the solution just handed out for all to see. This is just one more vote for "bad form". You really should email/PM the cache owner and ask for a nudge in the right direction.
  15. My apologies. You are correct about the math. I treid to duplicate what I did the first time to come up with my original numbers and am unable to do it. I cant find where I went wrong. But as I said several times now...the screen sizes to me isnt what I am comparing due to my earlier statements of the resolution differences. All I am looking for is differences in the firmware. Thank you for your time and input. Next time I will double-check my math before posting.
  16. I am asking this here because this question seems to fall in line with the current discussion. In relation to the Garmin 60csx (I am planning to buy one soon)...if you had NiMH installed along with the "System Setup Battery Type" set to "NiMH", will the batteries recharge in the unit while the unit is plugged in to Aux power? Or do you need to remove the batteries everytime to recharge? The owners manual doesnt state this either way.
  17. Relatives These look just like my relatives....my inlaws that is.
  18. Totally brand new to this so bear with me. When positing a new topic you have the chocice of inserting smilies in the text as well as choosing a post icon. Other then for the fun of it, is there any significant meaning to the expereined forum users and seasoned geocachers as to the different icons and smilies? Are the post icons reserved for speicific types of questions? i saw the symbol used in mid sentence by a few different posters but couldnt figure out the meaning behind it.
  19. HI! Husband and wife team new to the hike-and-seek game of geocaching. My young son is showing alot of interest in going "treasure hunting" with us as well. We will be starting within the next month. Muddy: 33 Years old Amused: 28 Yrs old Son: will be 8 in May.
  20. Thanks for your info. I found it very useful..I am leaning very heavily towards the 60csx. I did look at the waterproof specs on both models when comparing and they are identical. Thanks again for your (and everyones) help to this newbie. Its greatly appreiciated.
  21. I asked for software feature differences. As I stated in my original post, I read the spec sheets on both models. What Im looking for is differences users have expereinced in field use software (firmeware) feature wise. By the way the difference in screen size is 33.04%, not 50%, and certainly not 149%. Since these are both TFT screen (Thin film transister screens-known for problematically low resolutions) every pixel counts. Some people are willing to trade in a smaller screen for higher resolution, some arnt....as i said earlier, the minimal screen size difference compared to the gained pixel increase is a wash for me...i have good eyes so I don't need the absolute best resolution.
  22. Although I did note the screen size differences: the 60csx larger screen actually has a lower resolution (38,400 pixels) verus the Rinos smaller screen w the higher resolution at 38,720 pixels. The slight screen size difference vs the resolution, to me anyway, washes each other out.
  23. This is one item I neglected to compare. This is a big help and will certainly hold weight with our decision.
  24. Being brand new to geocaching (and very responsible and ethically minded people) we were very surprised to find out there are no waiting periods for newbies (like myself and my wife). Here's a point of view from someone who just joined and hasn't even bought his first GPS yet....I disagree with the 3-6 moth waiting period in the sense of time. A newbie might sign up in the begining of winter and not go out for his first cache hunt unit spring (a sesonal cacher), thus being albe to hide 1st cache before ever seeing someone elses. I do feel, even as a newbie, that there should be a 5-cache probationary period in the sense of experience. My (very unexpereinced) opinion is that nobody should be allowed to hide their 1st cache until after logging 5 finds. This will help them understand other peoples thought process' in not only hiding the cache, but the location of, and getting to it as well. So our votes are: Waiting Period: No Probationary Period: Yes
