Went out today. Just getting started with this and enjoying the learning curve. Old guy new toy and hobby.

Next weekend (May 9) is the IN Spring Picnic - would be a great time to meet some other cachers and get some pointers, not to mention to find more caches!

Here's another thing to think about. Attempting to look up his name he's still not registered. So, the question is how familiar was he with your GPS? I know the first time I took mine out and tried to do a multi-cache I forgot to bring along the manual and had no clue how to manually input a coordinate. In the process I wiped out the GPX file. I couldn't blame anyone but myself. Did you by chance show him how to use it or just hand it to him and say go for it?

I'm confused. Everyone's talking about the Google Earth KML. Is this the same thing as the "Find Caches Along a Route" feature?

was the cache published after an event? Seen it before where event participants were given first dibs at getting a cache and then it was published a couple days later.

I've found two sprinkler caches. Both of these you barely touched and they came straight out of the ground since they weren't connected to any water supply. A real sprinkler would have been connected to a water source and not moved. Not sure what the issue is. My two cents. Off to another topic.

I don't rush out the house looking for the FTF's. For one it's a waste of gas. I have two FTF's that are memorable. My first one and the first one out of my home State. All the others have been my pure luck. I'll put in my log FTF. Other than that I don't get too excited over it.

It was a wonderful day in the world of Ev until......
Well it always starts out innocently enough. Star say "hey Ev lets go caching," Me being the smart one that I am say "sure let's go.' Not knowing that there is alterior motive for Star, Wulf, Big Mama D, Noclue, Mystery Dog, and Noclues Little Shadows. All of them they are in on it I know it....
Mind you I'm a bigger woman and sometimes I think that a persons body (especially one my size) should not squeeze, slap on 10 pounds of lard, use a crowbar, or suck anything in to get into or out of anything. I am a beautiful woman and my rolls, luv handles, spare tires, cottage cheese, and my chunky cheeks should be as beautiful as the rest of me.
I'm sure that Noclue was enjoying putting me through misery pinchin and tickling while I hang helplessly and mercifully from the rusty, smelly, and paint chipping bridge. Wulf on the other hand was probably thinkin ' Man I hope that Ev don't make any gas magicaly appear in the air while she is sqeezing in there.'
Star was of course being absoulty no help saying i know it's here, while of course getting the descriptive Wulfs encounter of the first hand experience.
I needed "Go Go Gadget Arms".... So being ever so helpful, while I a full figured woman dangle at the bridges mercy, Star D, Mystery dog, and Noclue are trying to find my gadget arms. I am still wondering, come to think of it, if the arm was actually wet from all the water that was there or if mystery dog actually pee'd on it. They wouldn't be that mean to me or would they since I was at their mercy. Hummmm, guess I will have to do some research into that one.
Anyways, Sucess at last. The cache was in my hands. I handed it off with grace and poise (if there was any) to Noclue and up the line it went. Noclue, Wulf, D, Star. I think that Star was taking her sweet old time signing the log as I am trying to not fall in the river...
Anyways back comes the cache. And replacement is sucessful...
Now it was time to get out.....
I had squeezed in and rolled aroung and was not in exactly in a good positon to get out. Mind you that Wulf and Noclue are still trying to me laugh and I think maybe wanting me to fall in...... I try to get out.. Not happing,.... Like I said I am a full figured woman. Getting in things are sometimes alot better than getting out.. And for me that happens more often than not. Why I put my self in such comperimsing postions I will never know but...... I wiggle my way across. And then do a backwards pushup. I was laughing so hard that when I finally got to a position where I could get out of I think I pee'd my pants.....
SUCESS!!!!!! I was up and I was ok.... For now..... After that I was exhausted and wanted food. Food is good.
Anyways Thanks for the Cache and the pee'd pants.
I took absoultly nothing because I didn't feel like going for a swim to fetch anything if it fell out.....

Bounced on in ! We found the cache ... Good thing we had Awsome Ev with us cuz she managed to contort herself enough to reach the cache with a little help from the rest of us and a Stick .. We succeeded . Might have been easier to reach had the water not been so high.

And this was the one I couldn't reach. Guess it help to have an extra set of hands to get to this one and possibly help fetch someone out of the water if they fell in. I'm clapping my hands on your success.

I cache paperless. A lot of these additional requirements were embedded in a photograph or at the bottom of a very long cache description and were truncated. So, I found the cache at the posted coordinates and now what do I do? I sign the log book. Should my log be deleted because I couldn't read the ALR in the field?
That's why they had to be marked as "?" not as Traditional. Do you go up to Puzzle, Multi or Virtual caches and search for a box without reading the description?
Maybe you didn't read what I wrote. When you cache paperless and the cache is At the posted coordinates and you have read through the entire cache description on the Colorado and there is no ALR listed why should my log be deleted? It's not my fault that you (cache owner) decided to write an essay on the cache that caused the ALR to be truncated (left off) of the Colorado. I get home look up the cache page and it says at the very bottom to include a photo, or a transcription. I log the cache and send an email to the owner and they delete it anyway. Now, my thought. If I was going to do an ALR I would have put the requirement at the top of the cache page. Also, don't include a photo on the page and state to email me the dimensions of the object I'm pointing to. What are you pointing to? I don't carry my laptop out into the field and not everyone has a cell phone with internet capability. Maybe at the beginning the code word in the cache was a good idea. However too many got carried away and started asking for all of us to do some really stupid things that had nothing to do with Geocaching. If you really need to know who visited your caches do the maintenance and stop putting out 200+ caches. Sorry if that upsets some of you. But, if that was the way that you expected to maintain your caches then you were going about it the wrong way.

Honestly I don't see a purpose of me signing a logbook then taking a photo of myself on a piece of playground equipment in order to claim a smiley has anything to do with Geocaching. Or, why should I have to transcribe a monument nearby in my log. Again, what does that have to do with Geocaching. Absolutely nothing. The ALR's were getting out of hand. The change to list ALRs as mystery was supposed to solve the problem of people who find caches without reading the the cache page.
... Not to tread on a slippery slope, but I'm convinced that many of the recent issues with irresponsible finders seem to stem from a reluctance to actually read the cache page first. Not reading the description can lead to cachers getting upset when their finds get deleted on traditional caches with ALRs (new guidelines or not, the log deletions will still continue, even though the cache owner is no longer right in doing so), cachers getting caught in parks and cemeteries after the hours listed on the cache page, cachers parking in the wrong place and crossing private property to reach a cache, cachers not sticking to trails and creating social paths, cachers compromising the location of a container by hunting at the wrong time of day, cachers unnecessarily putting themselves into dangerous situations- just to name a few examples that I've seen.
Here's one issue I tend to have on this point. I do read the cache page on my Colorado. However, for those hiders who do a cache page totally as a picture or are get so caught up in writing a book and you waited until the very end to include the ALR half the time it was truncated from the Colorado. So, I would wind up logging my cache and later getting it deleted. Why? I found it. And based on my Colorado's cache page I read all I could and satisfied the requirements. I'm happy of this change. No more deleted finds.

I can't count the number of times I have come across a traditional cache and logged. Only later to have the log deleted and the nasty little note to say you didn't complete the ALR. What ALR? This was a Traditional cache. Well someone went in and edited the cache after publishing. Or, what about the cache hider who is too lazy to maintain their caches so, they want you to photograph yourself near the cache site so they can verify you were there instead of actually going out every now and then and checking on the cache themselves.
Do you know how weird it is to take a photo of yourself on a piece of playground equipment for an ALR? This really has gotten out of hand. Glad someone has finally put an end to it.

Depending on the type of EarthCache some distance measurements can be now done on Goggle Earth. Others sometimes tend to pass the answers on from one cacher to another. I know I've done some EarthCaches where the log says to take the photo like they have. Well, I cache paperless and have no idea in the field what their photo looks like. My requirements are generic in that you must photograph yourself at the location. It doesn't say your face needs to be in it. Now, I don't really want any moon shots either. This is a family site

How frustrating am I. I did some maintenance on my ISQ a few weeks back and there was nothing in the cache. This morning I get the below email from a cacher who found my cache. Why couldn't it be me?
I found a Geocoin in there that says The Shadow and Indiana Spirit Quest but it hasn't been activated yet.
I had to email them back and let them know what the coin was about. Anyone have any extras???
