  1. I need help! I was lucky enough to get one of the geocoins at the silent auction today, but when I went to try to retrive the activation code I wasn't able to. HELP!!!! It is the "Tribute to the Unknown Soldier" coin, and it is shaped like a pair of dogtags. I would really like to be able to activate this coin and send it on a mission, but without the code I can't. If anyone can help me find out how to get this coin actvated I'd appreciate it.

    Thank You!

    Try this link out Oakcoins.

  2. I kind of lost count. Think I'm up to 191. Some day I'll go back and do a recount. I'm just adding 1 to the last number from the prior post.

  3. Hey guys! I swear I'm still alive, I've been doing well just haven't been caching in 2 years :) I hope to break the seemingly never ending drought soon. I've noticed that it seems like 50%-75% of my previous finds are now gone! Looks like I've got more to look for! Hope everyone has been doing well!

P.S. you can email me at pmaholm at gmail dot com.

wow , 2 years without a cache ... that sucks dude .. you need to get back up on that horse ! :):D:D

No kiddin' if I go a week without one I go nuts.

  4. Not really sure if that option will help you out or not. What if those 2 DNF's were a year ago and the owner has since replaced the cache? The other issue as pointed out is too many cachers don't post DNF's. I have no problems saying I didn't find a cache. My issue as stated previously is when no one posts DNF's and the cache is gone and I've spent time searching for something not there. Or, cache hiders who never perform maintenance. I don't think we will ever have a good solution until we all start policing ourselves and maintaining our caches, writing good logs for the owners. This doesn't mean writing up a DNF because you drove by and it was raining and you didn't want to get wet. I get tired of reading those types of logs. If that was the case post a note. You didn't search no DNF. I'm off my rant. On to something else.

  5. On June 27th a large group of cachers are going to attack the town of East Peoria, Illinois and do The Journal (GC484C). Some of us are camping and others will be staying in the local hotels.

If you have a facebook account search events for Journey to the Journal AKA Journalator.

Any and all are welcome we should be at the trail head by 8:00 am Central.

Any question post it here or on the event page on facebook and not on the cache page (we don’t want to fill up the cache page with notes!)

We're going to do this? Oh yes I did say yes to this one.

  6. I have been trying to find the cache Centerville Mills Micro. If you can give the location, it would help!:blink::ph34r:

Are you talking about this cache GC19MMD? If so, it might help if you gave a link or GC#.

I don't think too many people will give you the outright location to this cache. This is out of my area. Maybe pair up with another cacher and try and find it.

  7. The preaching I witnessed at the event really turned me off. I don't want to have any part of anything with organizers who try to dictate to me what it is about or what it means. I define the meaning of experience in my life for myself.

I actually took the weekend off from preaching to participate in the reviewer panel. Trust me...that wasn't preaching! :P

The 528 foot guideline is there for a few reasons, saturation and confusion being a couple of them. Reviewers work with what Groundspeak hands down to us as the guidelines, we're allowed a bit of leeway in how we interpret it. You'll find some reviewers who will publish a cache a few feet under 528 (given typical GPS signal drift and such). When a cache is out and out refused due to the guideline you always have the option of contacting appeals@geocaching.com for a direct "hotline to heaven" on your cache.

Personally I felt the reviewer panel went great Saturday, not because of the reviewers but because of the great questions that were asked. The crowd really did a great job!

Again thank you for taking the time answering our questions. I as well think the session went great. Can we have pop-corn next time?

  8. When this topic was brought up last year at the Midwest Geobash someone (instead of bringing it to the forums) as the reviewer to please expand on their reasoning. The response was something to the effect of ...what was different 528' away that needed a new cache?

Listening to the session at GeoWoodstock VII I heard nothing that I felt was unclear in her explanation. Then again if I did this was an open session and anyone was able to ask questions. On the way back to Indiana I stopped at one interchange and grabbed a handful of caches. One parking lot I believe had 5 caches in it. Looking at the 528' rule was it okay? Yes, it was. Now based on the explanation given what experience did I gain or what new thing did I see? Nothing, a couple LPC's, a guardrail, trees. These were placed there because the "space" permitted.

My comment back to OP is if you have the opportunity again to sit and listen to one of the sessions please ask questions this is your chance to talk to the reviewers. This is the 3rd session I've attended and I've never walked away from one with out learning something. Now if I can start seeing some different smiling faces it would be good :(

  9. When I try to send a message to a member it errors and states:

Column 'AllowHtmlEmails' does not belong to table Table.

I get that message on Firefox. IE will let me send the message. Unfortunately, it's still sending and it's been over 10 minutes and it hasn't timed out yet.

  10. I travel a lot for work, and like to Geocache along the route. I always use Google earth to export a KML file that I bring into GC.com to build a pocket Queries, Find Caches Along a Route. Does the mean I will no longer be able to do this? If this is the case then I am very upset, as I use it all the time! How else can I find caches between here and there within a reasonable distance from the highway? This function was one of the main reasons I got a paid membership!

Please tell me I am misunderstanding this and I will still be able to cache along a route from Google Earth.

Nope that feature is not going away.. actually it's being improved.. very soon you'll see that you have the ability to create routes directly on the site with no need to upload a KML file.

    -Raine

Thank you! One of the great feature I enjoy when I travel. Makes my life easier.
