I see from the original poster's profile that he/she is off and running now. good job!
  2. My roommate's dog swallowed one once and nearly died. Cost nearly $2000 in vet bills to save the poor thing. I don't think the dog would have swallowed a knife, though. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  3. Not a complaint, but an observation... Does anyone else think that it's funny that the little map for West coast (California) caches shows the two cities that it does. We've got a giant PHOENIX, AZ covering most of SoCal and then Ukiah, CA. Nothing against Ukiah (I used to work there) but it seems like a strange choice. Actually, so does Phoenix. 4. »Place a fresh and cleaned possum in a large roasting pan. Also place a large rock in the pan with the possum. »Add about 2 inches of water to the pan. Add onions and spices as you see fit. »Cover and roast in a 350°F oven for 1½ hours. »Throw out the possum and eat the rock.
  5. Go get the manual. I can't help you with instructions as I don't own the meridian. But if you need a manual, you can download it from magellan at the site above.
  6. the shortest distance between two point in the wilderness is not always a straight line.
  7. We're equestrian geocachers. Have only one mounted find so far, but intend to have many more this spring and some mounted hides, too. (no, not horse hides) Cache Horse
  8. I for one am glad that Mr. Snazz (i think that is his real name) has brought this important issue to our mutual attention. And this is why i have decided to market a line of fully-demilitarized ammo boxes for the sensitivie geocacher. These will be available soon in your favorite colors: lavendar, beige, and a special paisley. Clearly marked on all of the padded exterior surfaces "THIS IS NOT A BOMB," these containers are sure to supply the needs of the Geocaching community well into this century. The lids and closures will be re-designed with no pinch points for body parts to catch in - easily opened with a flip of even the limpest wrist. Yes, friends, these new Geoboxes® are the answer to your cache container dreams. No more must you be satisfied with polyethylene (you know, a dinosaur gave its life so you could have that tupperware (aka SUV-ware)). Our Geoboxes® are an entirely dinosaur-free product. No, we can't tell you what they are made of, but it is definitely not dinosaurs.

  10. I loaded new firmware (v3.15 - appropriate # for this unit) and now i get distances in feet. Thanks for the help, all (btw, previous firmware was v3.07 - no feet. - haven't noticed what other changes are here yet. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  11. I think I'm going to check my firmware version. Maybe I don't have the latest. Also will try switching to km and see what effect that has. In my current mode, the smallest distance shown is 0.01 miles. The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  12. Seeing lots of logs with GPS horizontal distances in feet. Mine (Magellan 315) seems to only go in miles or km. Is it true that some units switch to "feet" when you get close to your target? The Bigg Family "Delta-S"
  13. What do we get if we can hide the first renumbered geocache?
  14. We're just starting (five finds now), but our 3.5-y-o girl loves treasure-hunting. we use the hikes as an educational opportunity... what color is that flower, what animal made that track, whatever comes up as we hike along. younger one is 18mos. and he mostly enjoys his backpack rides. i will second the notion that one mile is a good limit starting out.
