  1. It's already been done in this thread. Didn't take off...Pity. I had a dead rat and some food and explosives I've been trying to get rid of.
  2. Well done, and thanks for choosing mine for the big one!
  3. I can understand your frustration. I must admit, I didn't find it all that easy either. I have always received prompt replies from gc.com though, and I would have thought they would be more than happy to help out here.
  4. I was just listening to my old 'The Who' albums when I came across this one, track 3 on the 'Face Dances' LP. It's called 'Cache Cache', and is clearly all about Roger and the guys out geocaching looking for T&J Bears, and not having much luck! Here's the lyrics - you decide! Cache Cache - The Who Did you ever sleep in a bear pit With apple cores and mice along Did you ever lay on ice and grit Or search for a place where the wind was gone Did you ever tramp up endless hills Past cosy homes with secret beds Did you ever dream of a suicide pill And wake up cold to the smell of bread Well I have slept there badly twice And shared my straw with scratchin mice Although you'll find some deep brown hair I'll tell you something for nothing There ain't no bears in there (cache cache) Not a single bear in there (cache cache) Did you ever have to make a draw For a hard wooden bench or a bed of stone Did you ever jemmy a stable door Or scare the horse to escape the snow Did you ever invade a neat little yard Wake up the children who hope for ghosts Did you ever cause their dogs to bark Their guests to curse their noisy hosts Don't jump in expectin fun Don't swagger in there with your elephant gun Don't enter the cage with wavin chairs Cos I'll tell you something for nothing There ain't no bears in there (cache cache) Not a single bear in there (cache cache) Did you ever pass the police at work And hope that they might take you in Did you ever wonder why music hurts When someone plays it aloof to sin Did you ever believe that a smile could cure A happy face keep you warm at night? Were you ever fooled by laughters lure Only to find that they laughed in spite? Chorus: (as above) Did you ever finally find a place A soft warm bed in a room of flowers And when you finally laid down your face You found you slept for a hundred hours A hundred hours. There ain't no bears in there (cache cache) Well? Geocaching pioneers or what? [This message was edited by Team Galaxy on February 17, 2003 at 10:33 AM.]
  5. This is good news. I have a good idea (least I think it's a good idea!) for a locationless, but the current structure doesn't really lend itself so I haven't bothered. Now, I might!
  6. In that case, download a free copy of GARtrip from here. What you need to do then is to 'walk' the lines that you want to appear on your map, so that the GPS will make a tracklog where you walk - the breadcrumb trail. You may also wish to mark a few waypoints for any landmark that is to appear on the map. Then, when you get back to the computer, download your tracks and waypoints into GARtrip. Then, I would Alt+Prt Sc the GARtrip screen and paste it into an image editing program, a basic one like Paint or a decent one like Photoshop will do the job, and just tidy your lines up a bit, and add some text. If you need any further explanation or even a step by step tutorial, let me know, I am happy to help.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Team Tommy: Is this possible and would I need special software for my computer? Yes, it's possible, and yes, you may need special software. What type of GPSr are you using, do you have a connection from the GPSr to the computer, and what type of end product are you going for?
  8. I think the mapquest maps are great, but on one of my caches which is by a river, the mapquest map shows the little red star on the wrong side of the river! Imagine hiking down the wrong river bank only to realise the cache is 30 ft away on the other side? Should I tell, or is this all part of the sport? At the moment, this info is encrypted in the hints bit.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Team Blitz: The funny thing is that young fit (?) Michael sometimes has trouble keeping up with unfit dad! I reckon that as you get older, whilst you may not be as fast, you can keep going much longer.... I found exactly the same thing! see my log here. I think those gameboy things are the source of all their power. As soon as you detach it, they run out of steam rather quickly. Not like us seasoned veterans!
  10. Does anybody think it's time we (as an organisation) let the police in on what we do, officially? I was thinking along the lines of a letter to each of the police forces informing them of the sport, and asking them to disseminate the information to their POLSA's (Police search advisors). In the event of a suspicious package being found, a quick look at GC.com could avert a major situation. I firmly believe that if a cache ever caused the police any concern then it is in the wrong place, but someone is sure to put one somewhere silly eventually.
  11. Ee, tha's get'n a tongue leek a length o'tripe! Ee's agait that he can't search fer't cache wi'owt th'description in English. What dos't'want th'description fer when tha's getten th'co-ordinates? I've sin more work in a bottle of Andrew's! Now I'm off to stop some ale frae goin sour. Greetings from Lancashire!
  12. On the subject of current global affairs, if War broke out in the Gulf, what would be the likelihood that 'selective availability' would be turned back on, thus ending our activities? (yes I do realise geocaching would be the least of anybody's cares in that eventuality, I was just wondering if anybody had any insight into the whys and wherefores of GPS in times of war)
  13. We had a similar dilemma. As a family, we often geocache together. However, I seem to be the most enthusiastic and so it was me that hid our two caches. The wife has since been out and found them and wants to log them but it doesn't seem right as they're our caches. I guess we could put notes on the log pages. In the end I told her to settle for the warm glow inside that comes from knowing she did it!
  14. Merman, may we call you Ethel? (Has that joke been done?)
  15. T&J, it's not that I don't think you're doing a good job - I just think that you were wrong on this occasion. I have noted many other occasions when I have felt you have acted admirably, and I suppose I have been a little bit naughty here, posting what I have, when really I should have come straight out and said I thought you were wrong. Sorry, I have a wicked streak! I would not like to do what you do, because people will critique everything you do. But that does not mean to say I will remain silent if I disagree. Hope this clears the air a little. My signature line was a little bit of 'tongue in cheek', meant to show that I knew I was being a little bit mischievous, but not taking myself that seriously. I do appreciate you really!
  16. quote:Originally posted by SimonG:Wow, they're really clamping down if you can't use the Groundspeak logo as your avatar in a Groundspeak forum! In fairness, I had used a modified version of the geocaching.com logo, which when I checked the usage guidelines was clearly against the rules, and I have absolutely no problem with this. Still think there's some irony here though!
  17. I've just got in trouble for the second time this week! The first time I got in trouble with T&J for posting this thread, the reason being that it would upset Jeremy's sensitivities because people might use the geocacheuk logo instead of the geocaching.com logo. Today I was asked by Jeremy to change my avatar - he objected to the use of the geocaching.com logo and asked me to use something else. I have, of course obliged!
  18. Never mind! I think I've figured this out. If you try to set the background colour in the cache description HTML, it won't work because it is overidden by the green bg colour set by the main page. Seems the only way to do it is to use a background picture. I use a tiny gif coloured red, which tiles to cover the whole of the background. (tried to delete the topic seeing as I'd answered my own question, but won't delete!)
  19. I want to change the green background of one of my cache pages to a deep red colour. I've found lots of threads on how to replace the green background to a tiling picture, but can't figure out how to simply change the colour. Happy to be Markwell'd

It's free and available here. quote:I have tried scanning a pathfinder map and importing that into a program, but it didn't seem to calibrate it in the right place. Yes you will need to scan in your map and calibrate it, and yes, the first time you do it you will probably get it wrong. I did. Just stick at it and you will figure it out. You may need to use a co-ordinate converter which can be found here. You probably could buy software vthat does the same but calibration won't be any easier. It's tricky, but you'll figure it out. If you have a specific problem, I'll gladly try to help.
  21. I guess I should apologise for starting this thread. I've only been using these boards since December and I guess I've missed the politics a little! I must say though, after the Dan and Pid ModAnt saga and all, posting to the UK Forums is a bit like walking on eggshells. I've only been responsible for starting 2 or 3 threads and always give careful consideration to what I post, and really didn't see a problem with this post. Maybe I should have a twenty four hour cooling off period before I hit the Post Now button! All I would say is that I am paying Jeremy for membership of this community and as such I would expect to be able to use the forum in this way, for what is after all a bit of fun between the UK based members. Anyway. Like I said, sorry if I caused upset. I'll go back to lurking until I understand the politics better.
  22. quote:Originally posted by el10t:I'm not sure this will work. It would make it very difficult to work out any sort of strategy You would get a week or so in which to score a goal before they moved again, so I guess strategy would still be part of the game.
