  3. Recently I was searching a cache in Calgary that was attached to the fence of a "bicycle parking lot", with a public building (maybe it was the city hall) above, left and right to it. After 10 minutes or so a police officer came around and asked what we where doing. I told him that we were "Geocaching" and he said "Well, I could tell you where it is, but that would be cheating. But you're looking at the right place." After I found it, two more officers came around the corner and correctly guessed that we are Geocaching. So, if the correct people are informed there are no problems.. In general I'd say the same thing that @SweetPea&CrewsCr said, just look as if you are supposed to do what you are doing and you'll attract the least attention. And if people stare at you, look them into the eyes and they'll move on. I don't know if people in the US are generally faster in calling the police, but I never had someone call the police because me Geocaching..
  4. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a way to see who got a virtual reward?
  5. If I understood correctly @keystone's post, one of the caches is a multi cache, so he has to find that one to effectively know where all the physical locations are that affect him.
  6. According to the help center: Use a “Found It” log after you visit the cache and sign the logbook. You can also add a photo or a Favorite point to your online log. So if the Geocacher didn't write their name into the logbook, it is no find and the cache owner should delete the log. Exceptions are commonly made if the logbook is to wet to write in, then a photo of the logbook is enough. Also, Caches with no physical container (virtuals, Earthcaches and webcam caches) are different.
  7. You can create a pocket query of the caches you are interested of and then download it. Unzip it and you will find two gpx files, which contains the Geocaches and their waypoints. You can put the file into the memory of the GPS directly, or use for example Basecamp.
  8. Hi, The only reason why I don't use the official android app for geocaching is that I can't use offline maps from a local source. A support of .map type maps would make it possible to use maps of a much higher quality than it is possible until now. Could this be added in future updates of the app?
  9. Yes, if I could do it online, I'd definitely consider just running c:geo on a large android tablet. Or even just the geocaching.com map page... But my need/desire is to be offline. Surely I mustn't be alone in that need! lol You actually can use c:geo offline.. Not sure though if it helps your situation
  10. As far as I know it archives them completely. So they're not visible anymore neither in your DNF list nor on the cache page
  11. In general I like it, but could be page with th unpublished caches be a bit less white? For example you could put the Geocache Type, the last Reviewer Note or status on it. Thanks anyway for the new page!
  12. I've got a tricky, but true story for those who don't believe in "co-FTFs" I arrive at GZ and there is already another Geocacher looking for the cache. We find out that we're both Geocachers and look at different places. Then he finds a container. Here you might say that it's "his" FTF, but the story goes on. The logbook isn't empty. It's actually several months old and filled with logs much older than the publish date. Then I realise that there is a cache of the same owner 200m away, which just had it's coordinates moved back from the place with the full logbook to it's original place. We go to those new old coordinates and find the empty logbook. He found the container/hiding place, I found the empty logbook. Who's FTF is it now? PS : We made it a "co-FTF", just like I would in Amy case.
  13. This is pure speculation, as I don't know since when it's there. But, when you look into the source code of a cache page you find the category "ChallengesCompleted" in the area where the number of finds of a logger is displayed. I haven't seen any cachers yet, where the count is something different than 0. So maybe they get an extra count?
  14. I'm not sure, but this seems familiar to me from my Garmon Dakota 20. But this has been like that since I started Geocaching..
  15. As I was reading through this thread I got the impression that this change made things only more complicated for everyone..
  16. Well, this cache has been out there for nearly two years and didn't need any maintenance, whilst every other cache I've placed needed maintenance for either a wet logbook or because it was broken (except for the nanos which where gone) Also, I wonder how anyone would accidentally break it where it is.
  17. I've already found 950+ Geocaches and can't remember being one of them out of glass. Also, someone said that they didn't like that one of my containers was out of glass. I'm can't think of why these seem to be disliked. Can someone tell me why?
  18. Well, a cache that is hidden simply somewhere where you have to go upstairs would be a T1.5 in my eyes. Getting upstairs with a bike is much harder, so you can't really guess it from the T rating. On the other hand if I go caching by Mountainbike I use an appropriate map beforehand anyways, so I don't really get what the intention of the thread is.
  19. You could take a look at openmtbmap.org, it provides worldwide routable maps. Alternatively you could use freizeitkarte-osm.de. Both offer free, routable maps and are regularly updated.

    Website Down?

I get an Error 500 when trying to open geocaching.com. 2 hours ago it everything worked.
  21. Hi, The Title sums up my problem quite well. This only occurs when I open this specific page and only if my settings are on german. Any Ideas why this could happen? Thanks in advance
  22. I've found three great trails: Cave-Wood trail in eastern Germany (Oranienburg) beginning with this cache: Loads of nice hides reated to the wood they're in, often you have to look for animal figures up in trees or similar. Also some thinking required to get the containers after you've seen them. The trail laid for the Eurogeo 2016 in Auvergne, France around this cache This one also has many nice hides, but slightly less interesting than the first one. This new trail in Luxemburg beginning with this cache Every hide is something special, and the Bonus should be very good aswell, but I haven't found that one yet So I think the most important thing on a trail is that each cache has to be hidden in some different, special way, otherwise it gets boring. Also I like caches that require to use simple tools to retrieve or open the container. If you can't or don't want to put a big effort into the hides I think you should rather place a multi cache with stations leading the people to the places you want to. And accurate coordinates are important
  23. You need to contact him again and explain that ONLY he can transfer the listing. He needs to log onto his Geocaching.com account to do this. It's automated, and takes very little time. Link him to the cache adoption article, and to the cache adoption page. Long time members recall when staff would transfer caches, and he may believe that an email or message from him to you is all that's needed. But it won't do it. I did, but as said he hasn't been online since then. I asked the reviewer who published the cache and he said that to his knowledge he can't do anything, but I should ask in the forum. Well then there is nothing I can do..
