  1. I thought you're talking about GC11GR4 which I FTFed 21 miles away from the posted coordinates? Yikes! That's the one! Yes, now that I'm looking at the map it was 21 miles and not 7. Thanks, again, for trying to visit our Snag It (GCHWC6) cache and getting so close. At least you got to log the rogue cache as found. What are the odds that you would be reading my comments on this day and you would be the FTF on that cache??? Indeed!
  2. I have seen several puzzles. I have one myself: GC4N5VE
  3. I thought you're talking about GC11GR4 which I FTFed 21 miles away from the posted coordinates?
  4. I consider APIs an advanced feature not everyone needs to access to play the game.
  5. All of these can be done without a computer, just with a smartphone. But I think I now answered to my own question.
  6. When a smartphone is considered a special equipment because not everyone has one, I wonder what could be the logic to support to say that a desktop/laptop computer is NOT considered a special equipment. I'm pretty sure that there are LOTS of geocachers who do not have a desktop/laptop computer (or even a handheld GPSr) these days. I'm not disagreeing with anyone here -- I'm just wondering. I'm sure I'm missing something, as I almost always am.
  7. I was logged out of the web site and am unable to log in again. I am unable to reset my password either. The front page (www.geocaching.com) gives 500 - Server Error.
  8. I think the CO could still have just placed it in a better place if there's a maintenance issue there. I totally agree with you about the reason you want to sign the log and post a note for challenges you may not quality yet. I do that all the time.
  9. If a CO wants to limit the number of visitors due to the sensitive environment, they shouldn't place a cache there in the first place.
  10. The X-Ray caught the Geocoins in my carry on bag and I had to explain what they are. I just told them they are collectible medals of some sort. They scanned the bag again without the coins, and all was good then. Yes, I had lots of them.
  11. I, as a CO of some puzzles, appreciate the feedback from solvers even if they never visit my cache. I see some excitement of the solver from your example, and such notes are actually even encouraging. I understand you never do that, and don't ask you to do either. I just wanted to say that's only one way of doing a thing, and doesn't mean much to the original discussion.
  12. Which is why the guidelines were updated to prohibit this for challenge caches (other than existing grandfathered challenges). If you see this on a challenge cache created under the current guidelines, contact your friendly volunteer cache reviewer or write to Geocaching HQ. I don't know when that part of the guideline was added. Do you happen to know and can you share?
  13. Well, yes, the reviewer *may* respond to your note only with the template message (I heard they are actually dogs, so no surprise to me), but I would still post a note to clarify my maintenance plan, then I *might* complain when it is ignored.
  14. Some COs even require pre-approval, and lock the container. Even worse, some don't even respond.
  15. While you are at it, I'd like to mention what3words. For example, Groundspeak HQ can be coded: clouds.wink.tame
  16. +1. I was once contacted by a CO to delete my Found It log for the exact same situation. I felt a bit annoyed (but I deleted my log).
  17. Nope... not new. You can ask to any volunteer... as long you never been PM before. Any volunteer? I'm a volunteer translator, but I don't know how I can do this.
  18. If you're interested in various coordinates/solution checker options, I'd recommend you to watch this recent GeoGearHeads . My favorite is Certitude. Not because of the FTS (First-to-Solve) thing, any more, at least. It's just because I can see the list of puzzles that employ Certitude here, and I also enjoy seeing a little green check signs for puzzles I solved, even if they are 5,000 miles away and I probably never find them. One box for both latitude and longitude. No Captcha. Bonus info (hide hint, usually) set up only for puzzle solvers. The Hint for specific wrong answer. Blah, blah, blah...
  19. Huh, I wouldn't have thought that challenge would fly w/ guidelines. I think that the said challenge was published before the current guidelines.
  20. 1. I wish if I had known that I would be working on The 2/2 Challenge later. I found too many 1.5/1.5s. 2. Some of my geofriends say that they didn't imagine how long it was going to take to sign their names when they came up with their geocaching names (13-14 letters).
  21. This. I don't think we should prohibit anyone to hide a cache just because of their lack of experience. Rather, I think no one should encourage a cacher to hide a cache for any rewards, like for a merit badge or for a challenge cache.
  22. Groundspeak should work with scouting organizations to prohibit requiring to place caches for badges. (It's exactly like requiring to place a cache to qualify a challenge cache, which is no longer allowed.) A Scout is trustworthy? No. Not in Geocaching community.
  23. I also maintain my caches even if they are not missing. So I post Owner Maintenance logs in such cases too.
  24. Yes. I use it for solved puzzles so that I don't solve them again.
