  1. Come on are you really offended by a forum post? I have 6 kids and some like to cache with me. I have produced a DVD of me and some of my kids caching. The movie is traded into caches that we like. Life is too short to be offended by that post. We know that some families are not very fair. I also have been known to get to the car and someone has an extra McToy. Oh crap. My feelings are that my trades make most caches better. I rarely want anything unless it is a sig item. I leave some pretty cool sig items myself. We almost always only trade new items. That being new in the package. You can really get good deals on items and possibly get nice items for .50 cents and they look like many $3-$5 items. When caching with several kids one of the things you should try is to draw numbers and have only 1 or 2 kids trade at each cache. My children are used to sharing and taking turns.

  3. When I am caching I rarely take anything. I do leave some laminated signature cards. Some of these signature cards have coins or tokens laminated into them. The coins and tokens are worth from about .50 to over $2.00. I also make some signature cards that have stamps laminated into them. The stamp ones don't cost much. I also leave DVD movies of me and my kids caching. You can tell if I really enjoyed the cache based on the item I left. If its a regular cache and I liked it, I will leave a DVD. If it is a small and I really liked it I will leave one of the token or coin cards. If it was good I will leave a lesser card. Some times its TNLN. The cache nearest my house, OK its in the driveway, sometimes is filled with pretty good stuff, sometimes it turns to junk, then goes back the other way. Don't sweat the small stuff.
  4. I have one in my yard. I actually get many compliments on it. Kanesville Founders GC10XD2 Here is why I think this is not as bad as many yard caches. It is not in front of the house. Yes I can see the location from the kitchen but its about 100 feet from the corner of the house. It is also between an out building and the sidewalk. This narrows the search area. The cache is about 5 feet from the sidewalk. If the searcher looks at the hint it is pretty obvious. The location of the cache is a popular spot for anyone to pull out and wait in their cars. I have seen cops, buses and anyone stop there. It can be busy but I have not had much trouble with the cache. The only trouble I had was with registered cachers in the neighborhood. I also don't enjoy searching deep in someones yard. I think some caches are hidden in window wells. I keep driving if the neighborhood has small lots or the cache is near the home. I have met a few cachers near this cache. I do leave folks alone and have many times left my driveway while someone is searching for the cache. I think they see my GC.com sticker in the window and understand I am one of the crazies.
  5. There is no cheating in geocaching!! Here is a log that I made a few weeks ago. Snow caching log I have posted it a few times here but I think it shows what can still be done in the winter. Every season presents its own handicap and advantage. Get out there and have some fun.
  6. If this guy is a cacher then why didn't he have then check the GC.com site and check the coordinates. He could also have his GPS with him and say there is a cache located right there. So if the ammo can is the wrong container then they could take the container knowing its a cache and contact its owner. Stealth? What is it really? Just acting suspicious. . There is a small time frame that you don't look suspicious but if the can is located near a road it only takes a few seconds before that time frame is closed.
  7. I replace logs on micros all the time. Not a big deal and if its not a bad hide keep it going. Yes its not your responsibility but neither is holding the door open for a lady. The other one I would email your reviewer and let him know about the coord change. I did this once because it kind of irks me when folks change coords without going through the correct process. I have no problem with contacting a reviewer about anything that has not had a legitimate find for 10+ months and is in a urban setting. If the owner doesn't respond to emails and has not logged on for a long time then stick a fork in it, its done.
  8. well, there's the problem. people wanting a semi-nice dinner should go to a semi-nice restaurant instead of a cracker barrel. chumps deserve what they get. HA. I posted my roast of CB to be a bit funny and stir the pot. My actual least favorite chain is Olive Garden. Where else can I get crappy service and Chef Boyardee meals at those prices. On topic. I am just completely crushed by the fact that I won't have a legitimate reason to visit another Crapper Barrel with the possibility of purchasing some real country hand made soap from China. If you want to hack on me for one of my favorite chains. I do enjoy the Applebees. There you folks go. That should be enough fodder for the cannons.
  9. I sympathize. I like Cracker Barrel; the place I can’t stand is McDonald's. The food there is like grenades to my stomach. In my narrow mind I ask: Who would want to hunt a cache at a McDonald's? I therefore detest those cache owners who force me to eat at McDonald's. I’m jealous of you. Your personal curse is being phased out – why can’t mine? Why can’t all new McDonald's caches be outlawed as well? Why must I continue having those nasty Big Macs shoved down my throat, just because I’m a cacher? Maybe someday each and every one of us will have our least-favorite restaurant, store, gas station, church, climatic area, trail type, natural feature, park, state, country or continent added to the list of forbidden cache locations. Then none of us will be force to hunt caches we don’t like. Thanks (in advance) to the Reviewers for eventually (hopefully) having mercy on ALL of us who detest ... pretty much anything specific. Thanks, You made me laugh.
  10. As a courtesy you could email KNUBRO and let them know that you picked up their canoe #12. I often enjoy getting emails from folks about the caches that they find my sig items in. I leave many types of things. I hid a very cool cache that had several items in it originally. The items had the GC# on them of the cache they were in and I get emails from folks who find them in other caches. The contact we have with other cachers through our signature items is actually quite fun.
  11. Agreed. This is the value of DNF and NM. But on the other hand you should know that when you get close to 50 finds your log might be getting full. I pull log books when I think they might be getting about half full.
  12. In my narrow mind I ask. Who would want to hunt a cache at a Crapper Barrel. They have horrible food and their country store grew very old the second or third time I went there. The Crapper Barrel is a bad restaurant with a horrible theme. The thought of having to visit one to get a smiley horrifies me and causes me to twitch, me ears peal back and a guttural groan eminates from within. Thanks to the Crapper Barrel for having mercy on those of us who detest their business.
  13. It is mostly micro/nanos that have log issues. I did find a regular that had a log that was mangled but I didn't have a new log book to replace it with. I guess I have been doing the same thing as you. I just take the logs of the micro/nano class. It is frustrating when other cachers never mention the fact that the log is full. I try to make a note if the log is getting to be half full.
  14. I have been replacing many logs lately. I know it is the owners responsibility but honestly when someone hides 200 Nanos can they be expected to replace logs. /sarcasm OK, I am cool with replacing the logs but what to do after the deed is done. I have been posting the logs as pictures to the cache page. Many of these have "Maintenance needed" attributes. It is obvious that folks don't give a rats butt that the logs are full and damaged. One part of me says that offering the logs to the owner is polite, the other part says that they didn't check the cache or respond to the NM attribute. I am thinking of making a sockpuppet account that logs these "Abandoned" caches multiple times until someone calls "him" on on it. OK. I can be calm now. I am just wondering if anyone has a problem with what I have been doing. Replacing logs and posting the log as a picture.
  15. Sorry to hear the dude is leaving. One of the Czech Caches are on my DVD I leave. I also believe it is the LPC that you can trade in. It is a classic part of my DVD cause there is some fake money in it and one of my daughters says "I'll take the money". Too bad he has left. I go in and out of this hobby because of some of the same reasons. I definatly have to hit some fun hiking caches to even out the Micro Misery. The things that upset me are that cachers quickly drop a micro anyplace without thinking. The challenge should be on the hiders shoulders to find a hide that is big enough for trades yet cleaver enough to not be found. All well I continue to search for the fun ones.
  16. Open ended goals are best. Goals that have different ways of accomplishing them are best. Maybe suggest that pictures of the bug should show him in a simulated flight. DO NOT!!! do not send nasty emails to people who do not place the bug in a cache not of your liking. You will be disappointed nearly every time the bug is placed.
  17. It is upsetting when you find a cache with nothing in it. All of the trackables have been stolen. The log book is full and water logged. I think that there should be a much more efficient method for archiving caches that have been abandoned by their owners. After so many DNF logs then the owner should have to acknowledge the logs on the cache page. More than 10 months to archive a cache is far too long. If the cache owner doesn't respond to emails then the cache should be disabled if there is a problem. There needs to be more ownership in owning caches. GC should make it more difficult to place and own caches IMHO. This would also reduce the number of crap caches stuck to freeway signs. I make my own signature items to trade. I make business cards that are laminated with coins, tokens, or stamps in them. I think of them as quality sig items. Some of the business cards I see are not very good quality and end up damaged when they are wet. I like to get sig items but there are not many that are quality.
  18. I like to log about my experience. I like to log my experience and so on some finds it is very simple logs. On the more complicated caches I do try to make a longer log. If I am longer than the previous 6 logs thats too bad. I really felt I had a story to tell.
  19. I have recently sent a reviewer a email about a cache that needed to be archived. The issue was really that no one had found this urban cache in almost one year. There was good evidence to believe that the cache had been muggled. Many logs that stated these facts and countless DNF on a very easy cache. I understand that folks get busy, the lord knows I am that way. Don't take an SBA personal. The other cacher handled it perfectly. Sometimes I don't even post a SBA, I have no problem going to the reviewer and presenting a simple case for archiving.
  20. This story may or may not apply but here is my cache thief story. I posted a cache that is in my driveway. I live in a ruralish area. So its an ammo can and can hold a bit of stuff. We had quite a few visits for a few weeks then we had some kids in the neighborhood hit the cache. Then they hit it again and again. They never took the entire cache but they would rob all the contents. My kids told me that some one had stolen all the swag from the cache and they knew who it was. I tried to give the kids the benefit of the doubt. I found out who their mother was and spoke with her. That worked for about 1 month. Then they came and stole a few TB's that I had in there waiting to go on their journey. I got very upset and started to post biting comments on my cache page about the cache thief. After another talk with his mother and emails to his brothers account I got the bugs back. I can't even imagine why anyone would choose to be so downright nasty. I mean if we all went and replaced their bong water with Pine Sol they would be upset.
  21. Yeah for the most part. I don't have many neighbors and they all know I have a screw loose. Some of the caches are in subdivisions that have houses very close to one another. If people are going to place caches like that then they need to make the hide somewhat obvious. There is a TB hotel in Blackfoot, Idaho that you have to go behind a fence to get to. Its actually not that bad. The hide is pretty obvious and there is a combination lock on it that helps to keep any muggles out. Those aren't too bad. I hate it when the cache page starts out "no need to search the flower beds". It almost should say when you get near the window well don't watch my sister in her bedroom. In a way it is disrespectful to the finder.
  22. I think you should be just fine to post a few photos of the things you feel are important. Just be mindful that you may have a spoiler in the photo. Recently I posted a photo that was titled cache location. It is a wide shot of the general area and its covered in snow. There is no way in heck anyone could use it as a spoiler. I posted another that is the cache right next to its hole. No spoiler there that isn't mentioned on the cache page, you guessed it tons of snow. Spoiler? Maybe not.
  23. I have been caching here in Utah this winter because there are less folks out in the parks when there is snow on the ground. If you have kids take them along. No one questions goofy behavior when you have kids with you. I also don't like to hit many of the hides that are in peoples yards. I have seen some that I swear they are hidden in someones window well. That being said I have one hidden on my property. You can almost stand on the sidewalk and still reach it. It is a ammo can hidden on the property line. It actually gets lots of first time cachers from the area, and there are not many ammo cans in town. Me and my kids were once searching on a well used trail. The cache was under a bridge and someone walking over the bridge told us "not sure what you are looking for but I think its over there" as they pointed to the other side of the bridge. So not all people you see are muggles. They may just get a kick out of watching you hunt.
  24. Personaly it is much more fun in the snow. I have dug a few out of the snow this winter. I also like the fact that many of the locations for caches in parks are empty and void of any muggles.
  25. I have to admit that I often feel the same way. Killer location for a great hide and its ruined with a micro on the fence. This game is great for everyone and sometimes people have to make a few hides in an area that kids will like. That is my rant. But that being said I would avoind purposely insulting another cacher. You should just not think about it. I hid an ammo can in my neighborhood at my property line. The hide is pretty good and only about 3-5 feet from the sidewalk. I have gotten a few complaints that people don't like walking onto others property. My thought is that they could almost get the cache standing on the sidewalk. No worries some folks complain about all sorts of stuff.
