  1. What a great idea to make an official list. This is exactly what I was hoping to find. I am an conseillor in the usage of technologies for a school disctrict in Northern Quebec, the only French Speaking province of Canada. In the past 2 years, I have introduced about 300 kids to geocaching (and I'm being paid to cache with them :-) I am preparing a project with 10 elementary school classes. Each class will receive 9 TB that will be launched from different parts of the world with all the same mission... to make it back home. I am looking for 9 people from different countries who would be willing to launch 10 TB (one from each class). During the project, the kids will have to write in English (their second language) to everybody who logs their TB to thank them and ask them a question. They will also have to do a small research about the areas visited by their bugs and keep a journal of their adventures. I would be mailing the bugs around the end of October. I will pick the countries I prefer and ask these people to help us. What a great thread. I would also like to be an officiel releaser but from October to May, geocaching is rather slow around here because of our long winters. I would accept to drop bugs mainly in the spring. Thanks, Eric Godbout alias Geo-Spoutnik
  2. Hello Roadster, I could be interested. I am preparing a "travel bug tracking" project for 10 classes in my school district. Each class will launch 6 TB for a total of 60. I am looking for 6 people who would be willing to launch 10 TB (1 from each class). Having these bug start their trips in Eastern Europe would be very interesting. The kids will prepare their bugs in October and we could send them to you in the States then. Would this be OK with you? I understand 10 is a lot. I would understand if you decline my offer. Let me know your answer here and then we'll use PM to exchange our emails. Thanks anyway, Geo-Spoutnik La Sarre, Quebec, Canada
  3. I also want to have a travel bug on my car and I do have the perfect car for that... a silver VW Bug ! katsgonewild, where did you buy your travel bug stickers and how big are they? If they are not big enough, I'm considering having the logo blown up and applied by an auto Vinyl Graphics specialist. I'd like them to be about 1 foot x 2 feet and have a copy on the hood and one on the trunk. Is there a way to choose the tracking number we want? I suppose not but I had to ask just in case.
  4. I just found this thread and read the whole thing. Woaw what a good time I had! It seems like they installed a light over the nest cause I can clearly see an Osprey in the nest even if it's 1h00 AM. I should have gone to bed 2 hours ago but I just couldn't quit reading you all. I'll be watching the cam and this thread over the summer from here in Northern Quebec, Canada.
  5. Thanks for the idea JBnW. I just wrote to Garmin.... we'll see.
  6. Yes, I did mean custumizing the differents options in the setup menu. I just couldn't see how that could be copied and I was pretty sure I would have to do them all by hand. I'll write down the different things I'll change so when I get the GPSs back from schools I can make sure they are all the same. I knew that my maps and list of geocaches could be copied using MapSource or others. It's true my quesiton wasn't clear. Thanks anyway.
  7. I just received 17 GPSMap 60 CX for a school project. 10 of them will go to different schools and 7 will remain with me as a kit. Sometimes I'll use all 17 of them and I want to make sure they still have the same setup. Is there a way to save my perfect setup and copy it on another GPS whenever I need to? I don't really feel like going through all the options on every GPS.
  8. I would say the 550 is not as great an hybride as we could hope. It's more 70% for car usage and 30% for outdoors. I tried one for a week and I didn't like the fact can you can't attach any thing to it to hang it around your neck. But more disturbing is the fact that arrow pointing towards the cache is very very slow to react. Distance to cache does go down even thought the arrow might pointing backwards. Also, the distance to the cache goes down like this: 200 - 150 - 100 - 90 - 80 - 70 -60 - 50 - 40 -30 - 20- 15-14-13-12.... I was using meters but it's probably the same for feet. It's very annowing to have to wait to be closer to 15 meters to have it decrese meter by meter. Before I updated the software, it was even worse, distance was only shown on the map page and not on the pointer. Cute unit but not that great. Maybe more updates will help.
