  1. My warm and fuzzy feeling on this cold night came with the log today for GC146B7 "Gold Receipt" where GreenJam wrote: "This cache sets the standard!" and BruceTP added: "This is one of the best caches I have seen so far. It is well organised. There was plenty of stash and the setting was beautiful. TFTGC, SL" Thanks, I think I am going to sleep in the clouds tonight.
  2. " When calibrating the compass, you only have to spin the unit, not your whole body. Seems silly, but I've seen people actually spinning in circles in order to calibrate their compass." Laughing at myself - I also did it until a "light switched on." Suddenly the dizziness also disappeared.

    Geopirates

Geopirates are an unfortunate part of life. They do exist, with and without a Groundspeak account. My advice is to forget South Africa as a safe place for Geocaching, it ain't! But if the opportunity arise to send Geocoins with a friend to Europe you will find a inherent respect with those Geocachers. Sorry, but I omit USA on purpose. Don't let it touch ground in South Africa or go through Customs in a suitcase - it will be stolen. There are the Geocachers that I call my friends, and a lot that I don't even know but respect, but Geopiracy is only a small part of all the criminal activities in a sick South Africa.
  4. Bright orange so hunters can see you. We just had a woman here in WA fatally shot by a young hunter mistaking her for a bear as she was bent over putting something in her backpack. So sorry to hear.

    Milestones

Congratulations "Tiny Bubbles" on your 100th find - "Regent's Park: A Very Secret-Spot" - it is on my watch-list for someday to do.
  6. Yes, it is strange but true. But just as strange is the use of an ammo-box for a cache. You can't even buy an old rusty/busted/broken ex-USA Army one here for $25.00 Having one of those (even broken) in possession will land you in ... these days I fear.
  7. Bouts777, this game is played a lot on honour, and personal morals. If the offending tattered bag is a eye sore I would remove it. That is why one of the key principles in Geocaching is "CITO" - we are supposed to improve the environment. Either I remove and dispose of the tattered bag in a dustbin or it will be blown all over the place and then all will complain over the state of the site at least. That is not what I want to teach my children. If the owner does regular maintenance it would not have been necessary, I are doing what is morally correct for me. Hopefully I am going to either replace it with a better bag, or if no bag is available then that is also good - the owner could do so on his next run. Remember CITO. Removing offending articles is also a moral decision, I have no problem to remove anything that is against the guidelines like Matches, Bic lighters, Knives, Ammunition, and non-kid friendly items. Changing the container is sometimes necessary for the benefit of the cache like when the old container is broken. Same for log-sheet. Inform the cache owner like I did with the "Laphaside" cache - read the log about that from 29 September 2007. I will not change the location but if I doubt that I found the cache in the correct location I will send an e-mail to the owner to inform him/her. How well you re-hide the cache is also a problem, let your conscience guide you. A friend had to re-hide one of mine with more camouflage and I thank him for it, he did a very good job at it. Hopefully I am big enough to accept any reasonable change to my caches. I have found my fellow cachers to be very honourable people and I wish to associate myself with them, that has been my experience since the very first Event by CrystalFairy we attended. You already walked some distance, do the honourable thing and walk the extra mile, I will respect you for that.
  8. But it will still work up to 105°C although slower. Perfect for me!
  9. I do feel the same as "Pooks" on silica gel, best would be to get a really airtight seal by means of a O-ring and then silica gel will have an effect. (with regular replacement.)
  10. Beautiful Fish Eagle! Where did you source the Ammo boxes from? My visit to Army Supply store ended with the worst case rusted Ammo box, broken hinges for ZAR150,00 !! Turned around and left without a word spoken.
  11. No problem RedGlobe, I will look after the cold ones. The longer the cahe-hikers take, the more I quench my thirst - the faster you need to climb!
  12. Now that would be interesting to watch, where do I book my seat? Waiter, another Coca Cola please! This is serious stuff...
  13. I will not use a black (or white) plastic bag ever. Having found the Camo-bags to be a lot more aesthetic and stronger we started using that and are very pleased with the results up to now.

    Howdy y'all

Thanks for your letter Vespax, good to hear that you are going to the "Beautiful Colorado Mountains" We wish you and the family all the best.
  15. Looks great, hope to be able to trade one of mine with you.
  16. I am envious of such a holiday. Enjoy.
  17. Thankfully I got a very nice log from a "Straight as an Arrow" cacher. Thanks for the positive logs, it is important for the hider to get that - makes the game worthy of the effort placed into it.
  18. You can only smile at the innocence of their actions. Taking the pencil, that cache needs maintenance pronto!

    5/5 cache

First rule of Geocaching, the cache may not be buried. Archive the cache and the problem vanishes like early morning mist...

    5/5 cache

O.K. from now on I only do Micro's under lampposts - and the sun must shine also.
  21. Holy cow, that cacher is ruining it for everybody with the pics. Delete and send e-mails to other cache owners that has been compromised is my advice.
  22. More retail therapy, need to buy more! More...
  23. Would love that hybrid. A very smart stamp you have there, we "Calligraphers" are sure to envy such an item.
  24. Got my stamps from Craft & Hobby shop, 80x60 = Rhino head = R21,90. Probably old stock.
