  1. Here are my entries.. Mom's Classic(pictured right) Our Car(pictured left) see you at the finish line!
  2. "I see it" sometimes "I found it"
  3. You could ask if anyone has approached them, or if anyone would like to on a more local forum. Check out the New York Geocaching Organization and you might get some more local replies.
  4. I create pocket Queries for the entire route. You can create them easily using the zipcodes from various cities along the way. You can get the zipcodes from the "zipcode lookup" on the Hide & Seek page. Depending on how much time you plan to spend you may want to filter out multi caches and caches above difficulty 3 or so. I then use spinner and then convert the spinner.gpx fine to a .csv file using GpsBabel. I like to use spinner first cause it changes the names to the cache names and tells the difficulty. I then open the .csv file in MS Streets & Trips. Create the route you plan to drive. Then zoom in and see what caches are along the route. I use watcher to view the cache descriptions, and choose the caches I want to go to. I then add them to my route as stops and save the new route. I am sure there are 100 easier ways, but this works for me.
  5. All entrants MUST be received by March 15th, 2004. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. Less then two weeks, get your racers fueled and ready to go!!!
  6. Here is one of me in 1981 I used my digi cam to uPload it, so you can see the flash reflecting...
  7. Yeah I agree, it appeared that he really enjoyed doing it, which made the piece even better to watch. Just too bad about Frank Turner. Did you give the name of the female anchor laughing in the background? I want to write her as well.
  8. "geocaching searching for buried treasure" I watched the segment on MiGO site. It was really good piece, it's too bad it had to be spoiled by that idiot. He really ruined the whole thing for you and for the parks dept. I sent some emails out to all the addresses you had listed on your site. What is the name of the lady anchor who you can hear in the background laughing after he makes his "joke" I would like to send her a few emails too! I really hope you can get some sort of resolution for this.
  9. I just placed one lonely cache. Once Every Four Years. It's a super simple puzzle cache, the first one I've done.
  10. Great Job WhiteUrkel! On to 200!
  11. Yeah I have to agree with that. Give the person a quick reply, then if someone feels it absolutely needed they could say something like, "but you could get even more information from this thread =link here= where a similar matter was discussed a while ago." Or something equally docile. The old adage, If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything, is a pretty good one. The people who actually look up the old topics are being helpful, just sometimes I think a little more tact is required. Not everyone has been using the internet for 10 years or more. They don't know the Forum or IRC Chat ettiquette that old timers practice, and in their new found exuberance about the sport of Geocaching they show up on the forums asking the "same old thing," too bad more folks can't share there excitement and actually answer questions rather than replying "use the search function." The people who do this, of course, are only a small small percentage of the folks who frequent these forums. Most cachers are friendly and eager to help, but one or two bad apples ruin the bushel.
  12. Yeah I think that would be great. I collect pins, and have since I was a child. Recently I also started collecting Disney Pins. I have often thought of making a pin cache, but wouldn't want to part with any of my own. Guess I need to get a bunch of duplicates from somewhere.
  13. I would say there is no limit. If someone cant reach it, then they need to figure a way to get it w/o the added advantage of height. I know of a cache that is 15+ ft up in a tree.. There is a way to get it w/o having to chop the tree down or climb it. Though I'm sure most people don't even see it. I have also found a cache that required lifting another cacher up to retrieve the cache (not from a tree), it did however state that on the cache page. One person wrote in their log how they came alone and climbed up their bicycle and was able to retrieve the cache. I see nothing wrong with that, just be sure to make the rating appropriate and perhaps note it in the cache description or the hint. I have a cache planned as part of a series of interesting hides that will involve a cache in a tree at least 10-15 ft high, but you won't have to climb to get it.
  14. I crosspost. There are more Navicaches closer to me then Geocaches, mainly because the creator of Navicache lives only a few miles from here. When I first started caching I did a Geocache first that was listed 1-1 and found it with no troubles, I tried then for about four navicaches that were close to my house, and I could never find them (come to find out they were all missing) so I stuck to Geocaches for a while after that. I am now trying to make a point to find the last few navicaches in my area that I havent found yet. I don't really care what site a cache is listed on though, it all gets me outdoors.
  15. Geocaching came first. I read about it in another forum and thought "WOW!" I signed up on GC.com and read different posts on which GpS was best, decided on an ST Map. Watched Ebay for a deal and picked one up for $130 last feb, and picked up a copy of Topo from the GC Garage Sale Forums. In Sept I got a Geko 201 on Ebay for family and friends to use when caching with me. This past Christmas I recieved a Meriplat from my family along with Direct Route Software. So in less then a year I discovered caching and added 2 more GpS's along with tons of stuff for caching.
  16. There is a "Muppets 3-D" show in Disney at MGM Studios, or at least there was when I was there a couple years ago. It was pretty cute too. So... On a related note, I can't wait to hunt for the Epcot Cache next time I visit Mickey.
  17. So.. No catching cooks while caching? Seriously though, I think if you did find a "Meth Lab" in the woods, or any other suspicious activity you should note down the coords (make a waypoint) then you can alert your local police. However, I think it's still pretty safe to cache in the woods. People just need to use common sense. Thanks for the warning.
  18. I'm 23. My Mom caches with me alot and she is 50 something.
  19. These things look neat! The price, however, is pretty steep. $13.50 with shipping charges (to ny.) Ouch!
  20. Yes. I have the same model. Got it for Christmas 2 years ago. It's been alot of fun. The main reason we got it was to take it up to Canada where we used to vacation. Once we moved to Rochester, NY we have gotten alot more use out of it then we ever imagined we would! We can't wait to grab a few of those 5 star caches that need a boat, and place a few of our own, come spring! Edit to add: We also got the "stabilizer floats" from CastleCraft they were great in convincing folks to join us in the canoe who were otherwise leery. You don't get that sensation of tipping that you normally might. They also sell some other fun gadgets, that you could probably make yourself.
