  1. Having two little kids, deployment, and working on houses have cramped our geocaching style more than gas prices. With the kiddos, we really need to have a place where we can walk between a bunch of them. Before we bought our house in WA, we kicked up our caching because there were a lot of places like that in the Tacoma/Fort Lewis area. I haven't looked at how many are up here in Alaska, but this town is small enough that you could comfortably walk just about anywhere from the house we're working on buying, so I imagine we will pick up caching much more over the summer.
  2. I've read that as Animalguy for years. If Animalguy is still available he should create an account and just forward the mail to the correct one. It's a very common domain name. I don't think I even have to look to know it's not. Good idea, though.
  3. Off Topic posts don't count. Now I need to leave this thread so I don't break 20!
  4. Many get mine/ours wrong because it's natural to put the letters where you're used to them being. The rest of it is pretty easy. It's pronounced "aMiNalguy". Flip the "m" and "n" in "animal" and you're good. This is also my husband's email address name and I just wonder how many emails the person with "animalguy" gets that are supposed to go to my husband. I always get on his case for not pointing out to people that the letters are flipped. People in his own family have had the wrong email address for him for years as a result.
  5. Yes, it does if you hover over it once you publish.
  6. It also seems to have taken away your last read markers, so threads you've read all of say you've read none. Not sure yet about whether it'll start me at the beginning of a thread I've read most of but there are new posts to. Guess I'll go find out.
  7. I'm feeling a bit lost. I tended to look for my threads visually, not actually reading them, if that makes sense. At the moment, it's making me have to READ! I would say there's too much room at the top. I liked being able to reload the page and not have to scroll to see if any of the threads I was interested in were bumped back up to the top with a new post. Right now, as others have said, it's too clunky for that. Everything's too spread out.
  8. *bump* Maybe I should have started asking a year ago....
  9. We are moving from the Ft Riley, KS, area permanently in a few months but don't know any other cachers in the area. Is there anyone here in that vicinity who would be willing to adopt our current active caches? Take a look at our profile and where they are located and please let me know ASAP. Thanks!
  10. Yeah, one that we didn't see in there. Could be they electronically dropped the wrong coin, but still you'd think if this one were activated, I wouldn't get an error message trying to log it. I heard from my parents that this weekend was some of the worst VEISHEA weather ever. Though the bad weather tends to keep stupid students from doing quite as much stupid stuff. Unfortunately, it also keeps people from attending the events.
  11. Hi BD! How's it going? Still digging out or trying not to drown now? No, it was not logged in the cache we found it in and I haven't been able to find it based on searching keywords that are on the coin itself. And I know we have the number right. I've looked at it no fewer than 10 times.
  12. We found a geocoin in one of the caches over here in Korea. When I try to log it, I get this error message. Does anyone know what this means? Is the coin not activated? We had a club coin we found about a year ago that we had to activate, but I know that it didn't give me that error message when we tried to log it initially. Anybody have a clue?
  13. I don't seem to be able to get Mapsource 4.06 to communicate with the 76Cx. The computer recognizes it because I can upload cache locations from the website. When I try to get the program to find the GPS (attached), it searches COM3 and then states that no GPS is connected. I hope someone can help.
  14. As do I, but most military installations in the US are not off limits to US citizens with a valid government ID and current registration and insurance on your car. Too many installations have historical sites that are open to the public for educational purposes. As long as the proper approval has been granted from the installations themselves, I see no reason to keep a few caches from being placed on them.
  15. I had that happen with several of mine that I just uploaded as well. If you run the query, though, you should find that it makes no difference. I'm not sure why it sometimes doesn't register the points. Hope that helps!

    Help!

I'm trying to create a route to upload for caching along the route, but we're taking non-interstate (when there are interstate options) for the first 2 days. Is there some way that I can specify the route without having to save 5-6 different routes? I thought I figured it out in Google Earth, but I can't merge the routes together. Can anyone help?????? Thanks!
  17. Interesting. It looks like the hider never went to confirm it was in fact gone. A similiar "archived but still there" mystery was solved in the Northeast forum a couple of weeks ago. But in that case, the owner was long gone, and hadn't logged into the website in 4 years. Come to think of it, I don't have much hope for this owner either, although he was logged in less than a year ago. You can certainly try to email them. Yeah, makes you wonder about some of those people. We'd offer to adopt it, but we're leaving the area soon and will have to either find an adopter for our own or remove them. Some of them were just placed recently, too, so I hope we can find someone to take them over. Oh well, that's the life we're signed up for.
  18. Woohoo!!! Thank you! We may have to check the coords because it is definitely still there.
  19. Yeah, I just tried all the smaller sites I could find and didn't have any luck. Might our local reviewer be any help?
  20. I did not know of some of the others, but figured they were out there. I will look into those. Thanks.
  21. Not to be confused with a mystery cache. My aunt and uncle visited us a few days ago and we were down in Council Grove, KS, for the evening walking the riverwalk, which takes you to the Kaw Mission and several other historic sites along the Santa Fe Trail. So we were walking around the grounds of the Mission and my husband and I both wandered over to investigate a strange rock structure built into the hill that looked like it would have had a statue of the Virgin Mary in it (except it was a Methodist mission). It didn't take long before both of us noticed a rubbermaid container that wasn't terribly well hidden. It looked like a cache, but we had found all the caches in CG! We approached it a little cautiously to discover that it was, in fact, a geocache. We opened it and found it rather wet inside, but it was still mostly OK. There was no indication of who had placed it, but it had been there for many years (I don't remember the exact year), so it wasn't a new listing. The last two logs were over a year apart and it hadn't been logged in at least a year and a half since. It was so out in the open that the people who work at the Mission have to know it's there. We thought maybe it was a members only cache that we hadn't had access to until just recently, but my search this morning came up only with caches we'd found or hidden ourselves. There weren't even any archived caches on the list. We are thoroughly confused by this. Any ideas? Oh, and a search for the name listed for the cache, which had "Santa Fe Trail" in it, came up with nothing terribly nearby either. Thanks, Mrs. aminalguy
  22. I fully understand wanting to change a username. My husband signed us up in January and used his default username for everything...then we started caching and will always cache as a team, and we had logged several visits before I realized what a bad name our username is for TWO people. I'm figuring we're just stuck with it because I don't want my own name. That's just what happens when the husband doesn't inform the wife he's doing something so that she can think about whether you'd really want a single-sounding username for two people who refuse to cache individually. I do often wish we could change it, but it's too established now that I figure, why bother? Anyway, I just thought I'd throw a somewhat legitimate reason out there for why people might occasionally want to change their username. Karly (Mrs. aminalguy )
