  1. Thanks everyone for your feedback. As someone said earlier, even if if just sign a piece of paper and put it in the cache it counts. Where I'm already carrying around full notebooks I could at least save a few loose pages for when this happens. It would make me feel better that I signed SOMEWHERE and covers by butt
  2. Im still a bit noob-ish and Im wondering if i committed a faux pas yesterday when I did my logging online. I did a multi cache. And when I got to the final stage (the actual cache) it was a plastic container with a GEOCACHE printed label on the side hidden in a dead tree. It had a screw on cover that seemed to be on pretty tight but inside was soaked. The log book was like a sponge. There was not a dry spot on it. I logged this as FOUND IT along with a separate Needs Maintenance log for the owner. Did I make a mistake calling this a find because I never actually signed the log? I carry spare little notebooks with me to help replace logs but I gave my last one to a wet cache I found earlier yesterday.
  3. The OP was referring to the title "Eat Mor Chikin" Which is the exact slogan/marketing campaign for Chick Fil-A which is a very large fast food chain
  4. Thanks to everyone. It seems to be the consensus that I should just log it again. I'll do that and see what happens. I would never report it and start a war over it. It's just not worth it.
  5. I was going to just post a new "found it log" but I thought they would just delete me again. That's why I sent them a message explaining myself first. I was just going to straight up ask them if I repost and keep my comments to myself will they please not delete it.
  6. I'm new so I want to defer to some of the seasoned pros about this. I found a cache and logged the find but the owner deleted my comment and my credit for the find. I visited this very difficult cache and on the second try after an hour all total, we finally found it! So I went home to log my find. This is the note/comment I left: Second visit and finally found it this time. To be honest the coordinates are off by a whole lot. And I don't see how the hint or the "poem clue" have anything to do with the cache or where we found it. There's something about it being delicate? Being used to fight and defend? When we found it it was so out of the way and unrelated to any of the clues we honestly thought we had found ANOTHER cache. Signed the log. TNLN The cache owner replied to me by saying they didn't know what was so difficult to understand. The clues are very straight forward. They also said that they purposefully made the coordinates off. They ended it by saying "you must have found someones elses cache". Then deleted my comment and took away my find. There's just no way I found another cache. There are no other caches anywhere near this one let alone within 100 feet and the owner knows this. Not to mention I signed the log book with my username. The cache owner took the find away because they were upset at the negative things I said. But I think what I said is valid. And probably most importantly the owner admits to purposefully making the coordinates off to make it harder to find. Is that even within guidelines?? The cache was literally 75-100 feet away from where the GPS was telling us. Myself and my group are all newbies but this just doesn't seem right. I am not someone who cares about collecting FINDS. It's not something that's usually important to me but this particular cache is literally a 5 minute walk from my house. It's just bugging me that I can't have that smiley face on the map so close to me! Lol Four days ago I sent the cache owner another message saying that I think it's unfair (basically what this post says) but I haven't heard from them. I'd like to hear your thoughts about this. Is there an etiquette that being a newbie I've missed? Was I too harsh? I want to do the right thing but I just feel like the cache owner is not being very fair. Thanks
  7. Wow! I want to find these caches! They sound amazing
  8. I dont have a whole lot to add except that Im sorry this happened to you. I just placed my very first cache and this is my biggest fear.
  9. So what you're saying is that people who are NEW to geocaching are prone to vandalism and destruction of nature? Does this go away once they've been geocaching for a year or more? No, I don't think so. I would say that anyone who would trash a forest would do so regardless of how new they are to the hobby. Remember, YOU were new once too.
  10. WELCOME to the hobby! I'm glad you came to the Forums to ask questions and look for information. Hopefully this will help a little. Pup Patrol may be along to reference the particular place in Help Center for this item, but I will give you my explanation......a Throwdown is when a cache hunter gets to a location, can't find the cache, and puts another cache there, presumably to 'help' the cache owner or other cachers. It is considered my MANY (and Groundspeak as well, some agree) to be bad form. Thanks K13 Wow I can't believe anyone would do that!?
  11. Yep, its annoying, particularly by the 5th time you have to go out and remove the throwdown only to find your cache was right were you hid it in the first place. Can someone please explain to this noob what a throw down is? Thank you
  12. I'm very new to geocaching and I love it! I've read in a few different posts how some cache owners seem put off by generic log entries left by people. I've heard the term "cut and paste" to describe some of the entries. Is there a difference between what I write in the physical cache log book and what I type when I log it online? Should I be more descriptive online? Sometimes I find myself at a loss for what to write in the log, but I don't want to be boring. So I'd like to know from cache owners - what sort of log entries do you like to see? Thanks!
  13. Yesterday I looked at my map and there were 10 geocache icons just in my neighborhood Today, my map doesn't show a single geocache. Not even one in the entire state of Massachusetts?? (which I know is incorrect) I signed up for premium membership. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Maybe Im looking in the wrong spot now? I hover over the PLAY link on the main page and then click "view geocaching map" The map come up but with no icons on it. I also noticed that I used to see a sidebar on the left that showed the icon types and filters - That's gone now for some reason. Please help! I got my GPS in the mail an hour ago and Im excited to go out on my FIRST geocaching adventure today! But I can't if my map is broken Thank you in advance for your help
