  1. If you know the Cache Owner you could got to their profile, search down the list of their hides, and pick it from the list.
  2. Sounds like you have jumped through many hoops so far that I wouldn't have done with my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx but that is water under the bridge now. Google Earth doesn't allow editing of KMZ tracks or points but that doesn't mean there isn't a way to get it done. From Google Earth save the track as a KML file. Use GPS Visualizer to convert the KML (Google Earth Keyhole Markup Language) file to a gpx (GPX XML) file. There are more tools to edit gpx files than there are to edit KMZ files. I use MapSource to edit gpx files. One could also use something like wordpad to edit the gpx file but it isn't so straight forward about what needs to be deleted without the graphical feedback.
  3. Much of the OPs event descriptions are consistent with 60CSs performance I have seen when the compass needs to be calibrated. After I noticed this odd behavior I started recalibrating the compass after every battery change and the incidence of odd behavior did not reoccur. From the compass screen: menu, calibrate compass to calibrate. Some of the OPs event descriptions suggest there is also something else happening other than the compass calibration issue. I'll bet there is some iron based object that is causing objectionable performance. Electronics (phone, PDA, watch...), tools (leatherman, pocket knife, rifle, quad, bike), other accessories (belt buckle, rings, bracelet, necklace) may cause issues. Consistent compass recalibration is a good first step towards reliable compass performance.
  4. With the 60CSx the real limits are a 4GB file size for gmapsupp.img and 2025 tiles. I am using a 8GB card without any issue. If you plan to go off the beaten track and hike some trails you might find the Northwest Trails maps from gpsfiledepot a good buy (free). They have better coverage in the NW US but they have some trails in BC too.
  5. Advanced Search, My Finds, Include My Finds or for the non-advanced version Menu, Settings, My Finds, Include My Finds If those options don't work...Do you have the latest version of the app? The one I am using is v4.5.9. No need to repurchase the iPhone app. If it was purchased through itunes and you have synced to your computer, you should be able to delete the app from the phone and then reinstall it.
  6. Thanks. It's happening randomly with all sorts of GPX files tho, all created with pocket queries for a different area etc. I always clear off unused cache info as I move about so much and it can only hold 2000 caches so it's easier to delete all previous caches and upload the new ones each time. I've logged a support issue with Garmin and am waiting for them to respond. It does sound like it's faulty. I'm not sure how you mean delete. The surest way to delete is to connect to a PC and delete all the files in the \Garmin\GPX folder or do a master reset https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={d10af480-1fc5-11e1-73d0-000000000000}. Yep. That's what I do. Altho with a mac ;-) There have been instances of Garmin products that don't respond well to MAC dust (various files that MACs leave in file systems). Perhaps that is related to your white screen troubles.
  7. On my 60CSx a long time ago I had instances of dropped track data. In my case the trouble was the microSD was loose. My standard practice changed to re-seat the latch on the card holder every time I fussed with the battery compartment and haven't had a problem since. Don't know if that is the case with your 62s or not. Good luck.
  8. I am currently using an 8GB micro SDHC in my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx without any problems so I imagine a 4GB version would also work fine. For my 5 yr old unit the latest firmware version is 4.0. Newer 60CSx units are compatible with the 4.20 version of firmware. I thought the biggest card that Garmin GPSrs would address was 4GB. Are you sure the unit isn't only seeing the first half of the card? Currently on my 8GB microSD: A gmapsupp with 1527 segments, 2.97GB, 20+ different mapsets POI file with 145k points of interest, 15MB ~3GB of other stuff that I wouldn't expect the 60CSx to read 2GB free I haven't ever run into a case where the map I wanted to use wasn't available on the 60CSx. Perhaps as long as the gmapsupp.img file is less than 4GB there isn't an issue. I have tried to put more than 2025 tiles onto a card and had issues. I can't recall if MapSource complained or maps didn't display properly. Similarly, I have selected more than 4GB of maps and MapSource complained. I have also had MapSource crash after selecting a large number of maps.

  10. From the map page, menu, setup map, Map-Setup Points, Map Points, new setting here The auto setting will only show POI when zoomed way in. When I use POI for geocaches I'll set the distance to something between 0.5 mi and 2 mi.
  11. I had the same issue when I went to Vista x64. What I found is that I could put the data on the SD card with a card reader, not going through a sync, and I could still function just fine. If the only usage of the PDA is for CacheMate then it works OK. Since that time I have gotten a smart phone and don't use the Palm device anymore.
  12. Dropping something into the shared file area in iTunes is almost instantaneous, the files show up on the iPhone almost instantly without going through a full device sync. And if you DELETE something from Geophere's file are on the iPhone, you'll see it vanish from iTunes just as quickly. And Chuck, since you have iOS 5... you don't even need to plug your iPhone into the computer. Turn on "Sync Over WiFi" and the only time you'll need to plug the phone in will be to charge the battery I was just going to comment about my own post, the sync step, and you beat me to it. How does the speed of data transfer compare between wired and wireless? The GPX file of all the caches in my GSAK database is about 200MB so the amount of data isn't trivial. With the wired approach the slowest part of the process is Geosphere reading the file, not the data transfer to the phone. If I'm at the computer anyway there isn't much difficulty in connecting the phone. I tend to keep my phone close to fully charged most of the time.
  13. I hadn't tried that method before. Thanks. The Geosphere documentation that I read when I first started using it suggested going through a file hosting service so that is what I did. This shared file method...1) Transfer the files to the Geosphere shared area with iTunes, 2) Sync iTunes, 3) Startup Geosphere 4) Select "More", 5) Select "Shared Files", 6) Select the file of interest, 7) Select "Import", 8) Select the preferred group for download, 9) Done. I would say the shared file approach is quicker than the box.net method as long as there isn't too much other stuff happening during the sync step. If I use Safari to go to the mobile box.net site I am able to navigate and operate everything. If I navigate in Safari and download a gpx file I get the option to open with Geosphere. I would say that the problem posed by the OP is a Geosphere browser issue since it appears that Safari works fine. Due to the many interfaces available in Geosphere there appears to be an abundance of methods to work around the issue.
  14. If the source of the GPX file is a PQ from geocaching.com then the most direct route to get the data into Geosphere is as Portland_Cyclist describes. The source of the GPX files that I use is GSAK so I use box.net to facilitate the data flow. From the Geosphere data icon, Box.net File Sharing, one is presented with a Box.net login screen. One might not be presented with the login screen if the persistent login is enabled. If one is logged-in to the full site there will be an pickable "Go to Box Mobile Site" at the top of the screen under the blue bar. If one is in the mobile site there will be a "View Full Site" selection available at the bottom of the screen. From the mobile site I suffered the unresponsive file download trouble. From the full sight I am able to select folders, and then files. After selecting a file, there is a "Download" button near the top of the screen that initiates the download. After that one is presented with the Geosphere "Downlolad into Group:" prompt and it works as usual. The description above is how it works on my iPhone 4, running iOS 5.0.1., and Geosphere V2.5.4. Good luck.
  15. I noticed a similar issue on my iPhone 4, with iOS 5.0.1. I found that if I went to the full site, rather than the mobile site, I was able to download the GPX file into Geosphere. It looks to me like the mobile site has some features that don't play well with the Geosphere browser. The full site wanted me to install flash but that wasn't necessary, or even possible. I have the Box.net app installed but there doesn't appear to be a way to get Geosphere to work with it. Sounds like we need to prod the Geosphere folks to update their app.
  16. Was the data loaded to the internal memory or the optional microSD? If it is to the microSD I would check to see that the card hasn't come loose. On my 60CSx the card has come loose a couple times in the past 5 years. Now when I fuss with the batteries I always make sure the card is seated properly.
  17. Should be good. Those circumstances that will challenge the validity include abruptly changing speed and direction, and poor satellite fixes (parking garages, overpasses, urban canyons).
  18. I would second the advice of xyzee, from the satellite page, menu, new location, use map, while outside with a clear view of the sky. One time my 60CSx software got corrupted and it would hang on the Acquiring Satellites stage. It wouldn't show any satellites being acquired. For the 60CSx to confirm software one can hold the enter key and power at startup. If the software has been corrupted the software version will show 0.00. Good luck.
  19. If the Garmin communicator plugin doesn't find your GPSr then try getting the latest update to the plugin from Garmin. To eliminate the USB cable as a failure point put the GPSr in mass storage mode (Setup, Interface, USB Mass Storage). If windows explorer can see the file system on the GPSr then the cable is good. Other possible culprits are anti-virus software, firewall, or browser security features.
  20. The "Can't Unlock Maps" message is indicative of a Garmin map that hasn't been unlocked for that particular GPSr. The lack of unlocking doesn't inhibit sending the maps from MapSource to the GPSr. MapSource sends the unlock codes as part of the gmapsupp.img file to the GPSr or the memory card in the GPSr. When the GPSr is powered up the unit checks the specifics of the unlock codes to the serial number of the GPSr and either accepts the map(s) or rejects them and gives the "Can't Unlock Maps" message. Some Garmin map products are locked to specific serial number GPSr units while others can be used on any mapping unit.
  21. Two sites that allow members to share gpx tracks are Everytrail.com and Wikiloc.com Link to Everytrail.com Link to Wikiloc.com If you are planning on sharing access to your property for geocaching I would suggest using google earth to create a map of the property with the trail tracks. Many people aren't inclined to download tracks or create their own custom maps but they are willing to look at an image. It would be good to identify a parking area and anything you want people to avoid. For some ideas on what can be done to share information, two geocachers in my local area of central Florida have created web pages that share their trail knowledge. theboonieman and Frog Man have been generous. 22. The GPS visualizer should read/write the description data. Look in the gpx file to see if the data is there, it may be a BaseCamp or 60CSx display item you are seeing in the display of the coordinates. There is a character limit in the description field of waypoints. Using custom POI rather than waypoints one can get around the 30 character limit. Another method is to create multiple waypoints at each location with the description of each one containing up to 30 characters of description. A reference for 60CSx information: Link to 60CSx Reference
  23. As other posters have said, the Garmin GPSmap 60CSx has a 1000 waypoint limit and may also have some quirks about showing waypoints that is dependent upon your search method. To find out how many waypoints you have you can upload the waypoints from your GPSr to MapSource. Once uploaded, MapSource will indicate how many waypoints are present. If you want to get rid of more than a couple waypoints is is easier to accomplish in MapSource than on the 60CSx. I suggest the process below: 1. Upload waypoints from 60CSx to MapSource. 2. Save MapSource file in case you need to restore or reference these waypoints at a later date. 3. Delete undesired waypoints in MapSource. 4. Delete all waypoints in 60CSx.(Find, Waypoints, Menu, Delete, All Symbols) 5. Download waypoints from MapSource to 60CSx. I have used MapSource in this example because I am a MapSource user, but I am sure the same can be accomplished with BaseCamp if that is your preferred software package.
  24. I see some issues with your data convention. Below are a few lines from two of my csv files: -121.7603744,46.8528857,Mount Rainier:14416ft, , -121.7320405,46.8717746,Steamboat Prow:9646ft, , -121.7284264,46.7576093,The Castle:6437ft, , -121.6831494,46.840109,Whitman Crest:8274ft, , -117.7349638,48.1940625,Inklers Point:2195ft, , and from geocaching related file: -81.472033,28.332967,"BullseyW Tr/Mi 1.5/1.5 GC2HQ6Z","FFFF Pl: 11/03/2010 Lf: 11/12/2011 Jarrod88" -81.472033,28.332967,"BullseyW : Bullseye with a view #2"," - Location : N28° 19.978 - W81° 28.322" -81.470017,28.331667,"Bullseyi Tr/Mi 1.5/1.5 GC2HQ6X","FFFF Pl: 11/03/2010 Lf: 11/12/2011 Jarrod88" -81.470017,28.331667,"Bullseyi : Bullseye with a View!"," - Location : N28° 19.900 - W81° 28.201" -81.503433,28.383733,"ItIsUsel Tr/Sm 1.5/1.5 GC37FMB","FFFF Pl: 11/07/2011 Lf: 11/17/2011 isag247" -81.503433,28.383733,"ItIsUsel : It is useless to resist us!"," - Location : N28° 23.024 - W81° 30.206" -81.503433,28.383733,"ItIsUsel : Hint","reach over" -81.462533,28.326317,"AlasPoor Tr/Mi 1.5/2 GC2JJFW","NNNN Pl: 11/21/2010 Lf: 09/25/2011 Team Mutiny" -81.462533,28.326317,"AlasPoor : Alas, poor Yorick"," - Location : N28° 19.579 - W81° 27.752" The data order is Longitude, Latitude, Title, Description. East and North are positive. West and South are negative. The decimal separator should be a period rather than a comma. If this doesn't sufficiently address the problem we can use PM.
  25. At least two ways to skin this cat. 1. As noted above. Get Excel to export a CSV file and then use the garmin POI loader to get it into the 60CSx as points of interest. Using this method there is virtually no limit on the number of points one can upload. I have more than 100k using this method. 2. Export a CSV file from Excel. Use GPS Visualizer to convert it to a GPX file. Read the GPX file into BaseCamp or MapSource. Export from BaseCamp or MapSource to the 60CSx as waypoints. The 60CSx will handle 1000 waypoints so your 125 quantity isn't an issue unless you have more than 875 other waypoints already. Link to GPS Visualizer
