  1. I agree. I have had this problem on trips and the only way I found around it was to exclude micros, works but not the best way. As I live near a power trail that I really don't wish to find, I've had to add them, one by one, to my ignore list. So Lilly Pad please give us an attribute. I know the OP mentioned he has issues or it reads like that with GSAK but power trails are set by one cacher, so just delete that cachers hides with GSAK. It is easy to spot PT on the map this would give the name of the cacher that own hide that you want to ignore. Now I lknow a lot of cacher may not like my next idea. I have seen PT that have been made up of illegal hides, in these cases a cacher should post a NA log. How ever most cachers are affraid to post a NA log
  2. try using GSAK, when loading files with GSAK there is an option to delete the GPX files that are in the gps (you can used GSAK for free but you will to put up with the nag screen)
  3. The problem that I have seen with sticker is that when used on logs for some very small micro caches the stickers can make it hard to get the rolled up log back into the cache. I recently had a rubber stamp made because some people complained about my hand writing LOL
  4. Thanks. I'll add some images: Magnetic keyholder: Altoid tins: Addendum: leaky containers can work in environments that are always dry (which is quite rare outdoors) Funny, I think I have found a few dozen just like that and some I have had to use my leather tool to open them up.
  5. or when you go to check the hint while looking for the cache and it says "E-mail me" well those cachers that do not have =internet access while in the field this is useless and even a cacher can get to a wifi hot spot that would require wait around for a reply. This happen to me not to long ago, one hour from home on a cache run. I just put the cache on my ignore list after post a note on the page re the issue
  6. reminds of one I found up here a few years ago, GZ was in bushes but the cache was 100 feet away on school property. Posted NA on the page and it got archived. Then a bunch of local cachers got on my case for reporting the cache.
  7. posting a DNF is good because if a cache owner sees lots of DNF's it will alert the CO that there may be a problem. DNFing can be fun, sometimes I just drive around going past caches so that I can post a DNF-----Just kidding
  8. I load the Platinum with GSAK just like all my others....it holds 500 caches at a time but the SD card holds 14,000,000 in files of 500 that you can name and load as needed. I can't describe how good this unit is....its not paperless but if you have a smartphone ( or a PDA like we used for years ) its all you need. And the Meridians have a very good support forum that is still well moderated: http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Magellan_Meridian/info The Meridians, especially the Platinum with the smoothest 3 axis compass ever made , are truly the holy grail of gps units making new ones look like junk. If Magellan would have just continued the series adding higher sensitivity receivers , color screens , etc no one would be buying anything else. there is this Magellan but it might be overkill for geocaching My link
  9. You might try finding a GPS that uses a memory card SD/Micro SD, my older gps is a Magellan Explorist 500LE, I still use it as a backup, I no longer have a cable for it but I can take out the memory card and load the caches onto it. I still see the explorist on Ebay. I got out of the GPS business many years ago so I have not kept up with Garmin offerings.
  10. From your location you cannot even see the cache let alone sign the log, so I would say it is not a find for you.
  11. I have seen so many violations over the years, buried caches are just a small portion of the violations. The stupidity of some cachers is at a level that boggles the mind.
  12. Email the reviewer directly with concerns and pictures if you have them. unless something has changed the feature to contact a reviewer does not provide a function to attach a photo. But the reviewer can provide an email address that can be used Can't you host the picture somewhere else and send the link? you can do that but one also might try the geocaching face book page. Then post that link

But the reviewer can provide an email address that can be used You send it like this Hemlock (hemlock@geocachingadmin.com) now I have a third one for my list. thanks
  14. how much would it pay, after all it cost money to run a car and a persons time is worth money.

  16. this looks a bit like a power trail that is about 10 miles north of Sacramento, that on is wooden stakes pounded onto the ground with tiny micros in them. Now I did not do the entire series because I do not log such finds and I did not want to spend the entire looking at what promised to be a bunch a caches that I will never log
  17. Hey NanCycle, We love the discussions that these forums create within the community, but we encourage everybody who needs help (Guidelines or TOU issue with a specific geocache/user) to contact HQ through the Help Center. We are happy to pop in and answer general questions when something needs clarification...but you guys do a pretty fantastic job of answering most of these yourselves, through the various forum discussions. A buried cache is, indeed, a violation of the Geocaching Guidelines. If you ever feel bullied because of reporting a geocache that doesn't meet the guidelines, please let us know through the Help Center. The site (forums, messages, cache pages, etc) are not to be used for harassment, bullying, etc. It takes active, concerned community members - like you guys - to keep the game going. Reporting illegally placed caches is part of maintaining a healthy relationship with the land managers, and therefore a valued contribution to the game. OK I have now reported 4 of them to the Help Center. When I completed the form saying that the caches should be archived, a message popped up telling me to post a NA log on them. We'll be waiting to see what (if anything) happens now. This is the problem with the system, if some one should post a NA on a cache they get to locals pissed off at them for doing it. A person could use a shell account to post a NA. Now what may also work is posting a photo of the cache with coordinates etc. on the geocaching face book page.
  18. it is not grandfathered in, I started caching way before that cache was placed. This is just the problem, new cachers are finding this garbage and no one wants to report these hides. Buried caches and other caches that violate guidelines are all over the place. Recently in one day alone I found 8 illegal caches and yes all have been reported.
  19. As I understand the OP, the issue isn't wanting the audit log without paying the premium member fee. It is wanting the audit log without making their cache PMO. This does seem to be an odd feature. I am a premium member, but none of my caches are PMO. If I had access to the audit log on my caches I would look at it - mainly for the puzzle caches I have that don't get many visitors. Just to see if people are looking at it and deciding not to bother (or it is too hard).... or if nobody is looking. But I don't want it enough to make my caches PMO. offering the audit log alone for $10.00 would just that.
  20. MRE's. no way I have seen great ideas, for me I have a few types on energy bars that I take along with a sandwich and water
  21. Another useful feature of audit logs is they allow me to see if there are large number of people looking at a cache but not finding it. I know a lot of cachers that will not log a DNF. As a cache owner DNF's call alert me to a problem with a cache. Audit logs can be used the same way. Now I understand that some people just do not want to spend the money for premium member ship, Just because they think audit logs should not be limited to premium members does not mean a change should be made. Life is full of choices and some people choose not to budget $30.00 a year for a premium membership it could be a question of affordability or they may not be serious geocachers. I would like to have an SUV or truck to use in order to get to some remote caches along roads that my current car can not be driven on. Now should I ask that ground speak should not allow remote caches, Of course not. Some people may think it is unfair that they do not have access to an audit log but that is just the way it is, life is not always fair. Maybe ground speak could of the audit log as an option for non premium members for $10.00 a year.
  22. Makes me want to go watch all your caches "as an experiment". Day 8: Subject seems to be trying to communicate by sending notes. However communicating with the subject will cloud future results. Day 47: Subject seems to have tired of my constant watching and is now throwing spam. I've had cachers do it. As I said I don't look at as much anymore unless there is an issue with the cache. Same here. I was having a problem several years ago when my caches were being targeted by someone that was taking them or destroying them.
  23. I would be interesting see what the reaction would be if Groundspeak deleted all found logs on caches that get archived for violating the guide lines. Just a though.
  24. Looks like, from the videos, ground was broken to put the parts in place. Is it cool? Yup. Is is a cache that shouldn't be around? I'm not going to make that call. I'll leave that to be between the cache owner and the Reviewer. If I found it, and I felt concerned about the breaking ground aspect, I'd email the Reviewer and ask them to review it again with the possible new information about the cache. They can sort it out. I'm no Reviewer... for a reviewer to make the call a cache needs to report the cache as you did do. But most cachers will no report a bad cache because if they do they can become outcast in their local caching community' IMO every one of the caches are violations of guidlines
