  1. I can on a Vista Cx at any rate - makes life so much easier. Wish I'd spotted your page before, it would have saved me working the whole thing out from scratch.
  2. Nonsense. The vast majority of SSSI areas are in no way affected by geocaching. I have a cache on an SSSI, with permission from the SNH who run it, in an email from the local ranger saying he could see no plausible objection to any cache being placed there.
  3. Agreed. In any case, as there are technically c.20,000 trigpoints (of which about 7,700 are listed on T:UK) it will be some decades before they all count as YOSM caches.
  4. YoSM POI File updated to include as far as YSM385 Kinnoull Hill. Bernie
  5. A set of pointless nanos strung along a rusty fence at intervals of two feet, requiring enormous "powers" of imagination to fool yourself into believing it's a sensible way to spend the day.
  6. Quite right. If the new site is any good, or has anything new to offer, it will thrive. Otherwise, it will die.
  7. Trigs POI file updated today with a few more stations and the latest access developments.
  8. As the others have said, the cache owner adds them himself. I'm not sure that it's entirely at random, because whenever he adds one in Southern Scotland it tends to be a trig I haven't visited Henry - If you want to PM me details of the rivet - coords and any distinguishing features - I should be able to check if it would qualify as a trigonometrical station. Cheers, Bernie
  9. The Ye Old Survey Monuments webpage has had a bit of an upgrade, and now includes a statbar for YOSM cache finds. Which is nice. YOSM POI file updated to YSM377, with monument type now added, so you know what you're looking for!
  10. Aye, go for Garmin and use Open Source Mapping. I use my Vista Cx much more for hillwalking than I do for geocaching.
  11. I'm way out my territory here, but might this help?
  12. Sorry to disappoint, but I couldn't care less about impressing the FC. Or on their not finding caches.... Sorry, but but this feudalism is well past its sell-by date. If nous, les citoyens are minded to hide and seek caches then that's exactly what we'll do, and no amount of forelock-tugging nonsense will prevent it.
  13. Or alternatively, shift the caches onto another hosting site which does not require this sort of red tape?
  14. Same here, Firefox is the default browser, so GSAK automatically opens in Firefox.
  15. Thanks for the detail, it could come in handy sometime.
  16. Probably true. An element of euphemism is the best way to get across a criticism without appearing unduly negative. A while back I found a cache I thought was very poor - broken glass, litter, barbed wire and prowling junkies all contributing to the pointlessness of a nano hanging on a rusty fence in a grubby urban alleyway. Maybe some people like that sort of thing, but to me it was a very poor cache. But there's no point getting in to a slagging match about it, so on the log rather than giving my blunt opinion "what possible enjoyment could anyone get from this cache? "I just said "the area appears to have gone downhill since the cache was placed". Benefit of the doubt and all that.
  17. Interesting. Though I've only ever managed to fill 14% of my 2GB card !
  18. I've often wondered that myself. OSGB is far easier to use, once you're familiar with it.
  19. The Trig Points POI file has been updated today. Bernie
  20. I love my older Vista Cx - a friend has the HCx, and it's great.
