  1. Several years ago in a moment of stupidity, I logged GC55A5, Änglamarken, a mis-identified traditional that was an armchair virtual. Now it shows up as my furthest cache as well as most northerly. I would guess this is the case for many a geocacher. I'm very willing to delete my log on this one but it seems the correct action would be to change the category to a virtual and exclude it from the statistics.

Please advise if this is a possibility.

    Thanks.

I'll get this added to the list we keep for traveling and armchair caches, all of which are excluded for determination of distance statistics. If you hear of others, please note them here so that we can add them, too.

    Thanks!

  2. i had an idea for a puzzle cache, but was shot down by Keystone, no offense to him/her. so i wanted to ask everyone else. my idea was for the cache hunter to take a certain number of steps to the cache, without the aid of a GPS. since many people now have pedometers, i thought it was a good idea

    what do you guys think?

Sounds like something other than geocaching.

  3. I think I got the shaft...

I purchased a 1 year subscription today, and it seems to have already expired :o

Will Expire: Thursday, September 06, 2007

    Whats up with that?

  4. I won't give too many deatails here because we have alot of local cachers but I have an idea that should stump just about anyone looking for it. The only problem I have is I don't want to scare off new cachers that might want the challenge. Any ideas?

    Just say no

  5. The incorrect size and difficulty rating probably caused some confusion. I doubt that anyone was trying to cheat. They were likely trying to help. They THOUGHT they were seeking a difficulty "1" small cache when in fact it's a micro that no one can find. Better descriptions and difficulty ratings may have prevented this problem, IMHO.

I hope I am not wading into a hornets nest by posting about a local issue on a national forum, but I generally agree with the above post.

That's not to say I agree with replacing the cache...I personally believe that, US Americans are unable to do so, because, uh, some people out there in our nation that don't have maps...... ;)

  6. My kids and I ended up covered in deer ticks today, like head to to covered. Nastiness. It certainly brought an end to our great planned day of caching! AND we didn't even find the tick-surrounded cache! How is that for fair? If we're gonna get Lyme Disease, I at least want some swag for my trouble. :D

Anyway, so I threw all the clothes and towels from our shower in the washer. They've gone through three cycles of hot water now and there are still live ticks! What can I do now? It's really making me itchy just thinking about what is swimming around in my washer.

    The Dryer will kill them

  7. Use your common sense in most cases. Explosives, fireworks, ammo, lighters, knives (including pocket knives and multi-tools), drugs, alcohol or other illicit material shouldn't be placed in a cache. As always respect the local laws. Geocaching is a family activity and cache contents should be suitable for all ages.

The AF has strict definitions for terms like should, shouldn’t, shall, and shall not. The term ‘shouldn’t’ isn’t binding.

    You forgot this next part.

If the original cache contents list any of the above items or other questionable items, or if a cache is reported to have the questionable items, the cache may be disabled, and the owner of the cache will be contacted and asked to remove the questionable items before the cache is enabled.

That sounds pretty cut and dried to me.

  8. I authorize you to leave a knife of any size in any of my caches that are outside city limits.

How is that any different from a cache owner who authorizes a cacher to post a false find?

Very different, you have to actually leave a knife if you say you do, not pretend to.

I am opposed to knifes in caches. I guess that if some local groups of cachers feel that they are above the restrictions of the guidelines, and want to play the game by their own rules, there is not much I can do about it.
