  1. I have not done a cache machine since Gig Harbor, but I might just do this one. I have done a number of these caches, but that just cuts down on the stops along the way.
  2. The road from 28 past 33, the last time I drove it, was marked as not maintained. It was passable, but there may be pretty good sized chuck holes along the way. There are four caches near #54 that are not that long a hike, but would probably be too much for the dedicated cache machiner.
  3. Hi and thank you, John. I agree, #1 and #2 might be difficult LOL. Good suggestions, one and all. I'll do my best with this. If hiding becomes not fun, then I'll just do the hunt and not hide any. The rules....especialy secret coordinates do make it "unfun" for someone who likes things simple (the hide, not the find) Thanks! Everyone's comments are helpful Consider the following (as Bil Nye The Science Guy used to say), if the coordinates of a puzzle cache were not "secret" what would be the point of a puzzle? I understand your frustration, but those coordinates do need to kept secret so as not to spoil the puzzle.
  4. The problem is that the puzzle cache is not at the listed coordinates. The reviewer has the actual placement available and that is what the reviewer is checking to see if you are too close to another cache. They also have all the actual physical cache locations for stages of any multi.
  5. The problem is most likely that the zip code search starts at some arbitrary point for the center of the zip code and that is where the distance and direction are measured from.
  6. My Kubota Garden cache might be a bit long for the half mile walk, but there are plenty of benches to provide some rest. I have not checked the actual mileage on it so that is just an estimate. If your mother can take some rest stops and enjoy the garden, you should be fine. Allow a few hours, you won't regret it. There are a couple of caches in Ketchikan right near the cruise ship dock. Plan on rain. I think it rains something like 370 days a year there. (Yeah, I know there are only 365 days, but it comes close to that, I have been told.) I was there over a year ago so I don't know what might be active now. In Juneau, take the tram to the top of the hill. Great views from up there and a few caches were there when I was there. While I was there, I also went to the Mendenhall Glacier, which was cool. There are some caches there as well. I can't help with the other spots.
  7. It will not run again today. You can make a copy of it and that will run today.
  8. I picked up maps for my Colorado through Open Street Maps and had no problem at all. I haven't tried to use them yet though.
  9. There are several things to consider. First of all being under trees with bother the GPS unit. Accuracy will definitely be affected. Each unit has some error, yours as well as the one the hider used. You will seldom find the cache when your unit reads zero. If your unit is off 8 meters and so was the hider's, then it could be as much as 16 meters away. Reported accuracy by the unit is an estimate based on signal strength and satellite geometry. It varies all the time.
  10. I figured you could do it, so I didn't try to insult you by giving the directions.
  11. There is. Link helpfully provided by t4e in post #16. But isn't the speculation and rumour-mongering more fun? MrsB Of course, that's why I didn't post the link.
  12. I'll make a WAG that there is a thread someplace that details the changes. Hmmm, I wonder where that might be.
  13. I just got hit with 13 notes from ETLogEater as well. Edit, make that all 18 of my caches. The last five came after I started looking at my gmail.
  14. First off, every unit has an error. Yours has one as well as the one of the cacher who hid the cache. Just because your unit reads zero, you aren't necessarily right at the location. You could be as much as 50 feet away depending on the satellite geometry. Once you get that close, start looking for something that doesn't look right. An unusual pile of stuff like rocks or sticks might cover a hiding place. Look for places you might hide something. It might be up a tree or in a bush or a natural hole or almost anyplace. Hopefully you chose caches larger than micros to start with. Those are hard to find due to the size. Some may be a small as a fingernail. Also stick to lower difficulties to start with.
  15. with a traditional cache, you leave it behind. With these golden crows, you go there and if you find the crow, you take it with you and them bring it to geoboo. These crows are hidden in spots a regular cache might not ever get hidden. My tombstone last year was hanging in water by fishing line I've found a cache hidden like that.
  16. Thanks for all the work you put in on this and other parks around the area.
  17. Now they say it will be "New at 6" in the 6:00 hour. Hardly new if they have shown it already, but what the hey.
  18. According to the tease I just saw, this story will be on the the current news show within the next hour.
  19. And, as was reported in this thread, Kablooey was looking at the blank cache log when he got an email stating that the cache had been found by the first of these.
  20. That's 11pm Pacific time. The geocaching.com site or the forum site? If it is the forum site, that is the daily backup that takes place at 11PM Pacific time. The forum site. I'm smiling. Seems to good to be true. Are you playing me? Acutally i just closed internet explorer and reopend and its working great again. I like your answer though. Not playing with you at all. Every day at the same time (11PM Pacific) the forums lock up to do the back up. That takes about 10 minutes, although it was up to 20 minutes not too long ago.

  22. TL posted a SPOT about a half hour ago stating that the weather sucks too much and they are turning back.
