  1. @Kelux, At THE beginning that was the only to get started in a category! Now that we can see who does a great job at creating a submission we can be a bit more picky in Waymarking categories. Versus, in Geocaching the Reviewer is to be seen as impartial, and NOT expected to a FTF Hound! The Australian Reviewers have a separate Account for finding geocaches, though they may use the Reviewer account to attend certain Events! @Fi67, would be happy to help in Transformer Sub-Stations category
  2. Not having to been to a Costco, the closest is 2 hours away, so not a $130 member, I would expect to have in the Long Description something about the parking (Summer can really drain a shopper if your car is out in the open - and discouraging if you have to pay, and there is a time limit!) As an ALDI Reviewer I have encouraged those that submit to include something about the Parking, as I have found $11/hr customer parking, but the first hour free if you spend $40 (what was Manly ALDI until it closed). And free parking, but 20 minute time limit for ALDI shoppers in Bundaberg!! My local ALDI had in the last three months put in boom gates with a 2 hour free limit; then $5, and $10 after 3 hours. It has allowed more parking for customers, as too often hospital visitors (and workers) were using it. Maybe that can be included in the Location Differences section.
  3. Reinstalled Microsoft Edge, and still no difference with photos or maps - Darn! Cleared Cookies, etc; and now have the Photos, but still no Map
  4. On my Notebook (Acer) I only run IE (Internet Explorer), while on my older laptop it is Chrome, as I do on my Android phone. But all don't show the Map, nor the Profile Photo, and the Gallery photos aren't accessible. I have restarted them each three times, with NO benefit. * So I am not Approving any Waymark Submissions. Any fixes yet?!?
  5. Sorry, I don't normally follow the Forums (unless invited), too busy Waymarking the categories already out there. While I can't imagine getting to Belgium until I retire (10 years time maybe), as a mono-linguist, I appreciate the proposed changes to the requirements, (to not be so rigid with the very local dialect/language strict requirement). Comparing the text of various languages (out of curiosity, or need) is totally different to having to write in a language that you aren't familiar with "Th qck brwn fx jmps vr th lz dg", may be understood, but it does NOT mean that it is correct, and that is what many Translators ending up looking like. All the best with the Category, and I will head on back to the Group Vote page to amend my comments.
  6. I prefer #3 for the Australian Heritage Sites: Looks good!
  7. Thanks to BK-Hunters, and CADS11 I am now aware of this thread in the Forums. Thanks 'guys'. One of the few ACTIVE DownUnder Waymarkers here! I do believe that this is a USEFUL category. And will try to contact known active waymarkers in Australia. I don't know of any that frequent the Forums, so that would be why there is no response(s) ATM.
  8. From a 'volunteer' trip to Thailand, the closest cache ended up being 48 km away, about 3 hours on a motorbike. No joy. Not too surprised, in that it had high Difficulty and Terrain ratings. Five years Unloved, except for the following log: And another great adventure by the "XX". I set out on my scooter to explore some of the beautiful countryside around "YY" and also wanted to find this cache, which sounded really amazing. When I approached the cave entrance via the nearby templegrounds, I was told that I had to ask for the abbots blessing to enter the cave. I did this and was allowed to go inside but a farang is apparently such a rare sight in this part of Thailand that four monks wanted to accompany me in exploring the cave. Before we entered they said a very long prayer asking the spirits of the cave to protect us and then we went inside and walked, crawled and climbed to the other side of the cave where we turned around and went back the way we came. I tried looking for the cache but couldn't do it thoroughly as the monks were constantly around me - so I got Log permission from the owner instead. Still, I had a great time exploring this place which I would never have found without the cache and with some great company, too. Thanks! Why didn't "I" think of 'that'! As I had gone through TWICE! []
  9. Someone on this thread may be able to help. Does that work for a Waymarker (or Team) that has deceased? And what level Officer is able to do that? Can a Level 3 Officer remove another Level 3 Officer?
  10. QUITE BUSTED! I can only get outdated Visited Stats, and can't even get outdated Posted stats at all - it goes straight to the outdated Visited ones! Put it this way, it 'says' that it is displaying "Posted", but they are actually "Visited".
  11. I agree with Tuena, definitely an INTEREST, sometimes it is amusing - depending on the category found. I wouldn't call it "Just a Game", as with many things in my life, I try my best to improve what I have, and that includes Waymarking and Geocaching.
  12. Thanks to BK-Hunters to putting me onto this 'Thread'. 'DownUnder' we have currently an issue with the Australian Trig Points category. I know that one of the Officers is theoretically a Team, but the main driving force of the Spindoctors, Darren Osborne of quite some notoriety in Australia, died about 2 years ago, and the Waymarking side hasn't been accessed since. Understandably. However, Gunn Parker (the Group Leader, not the one that started it mind you) has been inactive since 2010. I am happy to nominate a few active Waymarkers and trig hunters to be placed in the Reviewing roles. Yours sincerely Grahame Cookie gwcooke@y7mail.com
  13. For those Geocaching or Waymarking travellers, who need to find a WiFi Hotspot or portal, the new Officers will try their best to get a Submission approved that has a reasonable amount of appropriate information included. My apologies up front, as I am new to this level of Officialdom, and I know that 'we' will do the best we can to prompt the Poster of a submission to provide enough accurate information, so that others will know ahead of time if they want to stop in at a particular place to check their emails, etc. So PLEASE, no submissions that look like they are "Drive-by". Share your experience. Thanks (from DownUnder) Grahame Cookie
  14. I'm wondering if there is a place in the system for the Premium member to specify the range for searching for geocaches. In 'cache poor' areas (I have 650 caches within 80 km radius) it is relatively easy to clear out the 'home zone', and I'm wondering if I can specify a range of 100 km, for example. I don't always have access to GSAK, eg, when on a tablet or 'smart phone' device.
  15. Being from a different youth group, that also has a 'merit badge' for geocaching (Pathfinders), I know that we have a Letterboxing badge (not totally related to Geocaching tho), and a Geological Geocaching (Earthcaching) badge. I have suggested the possibility of a Waymarking badge, especially for those countries that are very geocache poor. I am heading to Thailand in December to teach geocaching for our youth at the equivalent of a Jamboree, and initially there was x 3 geocaches within 5km of the Boy Scout Camp (Chaipiti) that we are using, they are now Archived, and the closest one is 35 km away. Many of those 2,000 attending will be from countries that only have a couple of hundred caches in the WHOLE country, but I see a lot more opportunities for them to Post or Visit Waymarks in their home country as a result. I look forward to hearing how the Scouting movement goes with a possible Waymarking badge. (How can a Waymarking Category Leader, and Officers, have Posted and/or Visited absolutely no Waymarks ?!?)- Not aimed at anyone on this thread! Just a question.
  16. One thing I don't understand is a Group Founder, and Group Leader not having Posted, or Visited any of the waymarks in that particular category. Being from DownUnder I'm thinking of a Benchmark type category called Australian Trig Points ('17K' on the Grid). The current Leader has not logged in for 5 (FIVE) years, and unfortunately one of the 'Officer 3' waymarkers died early this year. With only 300+ waymarks in that category I had suggested that one of the frequent Posters (bucketeer) be submitted to Officer. I think he has posted x 80 of those listed, and he remains active. As Trig Points are a passion of mine (going back to the 1980s) I first tried to Post a couple back in 2007 soon after starting caching, but when they weren't 'Published' I gave up on Waymarking until recently clearing out all the local caches. It seems the process of getting your Posts on-line could be tidied up. I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks, as I recognise that all the category reviewers are volunteers, but it would be nice to have a more timely and regular check by the Officers in whatever category is the slowest. I think it was 6 months for a 'Bicycle Shops' one to published - no record, but it made it very hard as I was hoping to be able to use for a particular geocaching Challenge. As currently I seem to be the most frequent poster for Australian trigs I don't think it acceptable to think of being an Officer for that, but if anyone knows of how to get onto the 'Seventh-day Adventist Churches' category as an Officer I wouldn't mind helping on reviewing/voting on those from outside of Australia. Reviewers, PLEASE don't be disheartened in you great volunteer work. But try to be active in it at least.
  17. I certainly have friends that use GSAK to log their caching Finds to Groundspeak, but not being a user like that myself I don't know if they can also automate the placing of a photo with a particular log. Maybe that could be asked in the GSAK Q & A section. (If you use GSAK for logging that is)
  18. That is FINE when a given distance is mentioned, but any thoughts on an Unknown Cache "Cross Bearing #2", GC16VEB, in Darwin, NT, Australia, where you have to project an unknown distance, but a known angle from two (or more) geocaches?
  19. In my local area (Tinonee, 2430) there must be 20 benchmarks or survey markers within a 1km radius, and am wondering if there is a place to log finds in Australia, or to find out how accurate my GPSr is from the surveyed markers
