  1. I am going hiking this weekend. Romero Pools trail in the Catalina Mountains. Is there somewhere I can go to find the waypoints in Catalina state park. I was thinking I could look for a geocache if there is one along this trail. My next question is if I know the waypoint for Catalina State park where can I plug the coords in to see if there is a cache in the area? I do quite a bit of hiking and I would use this info quite a bit I think.
  2. Maybe a peak register? Closest traditional cache is over 2 miles from those coordinates. D! What is a peak register? The notes were in a glass jar. The only peak registers I am aware of are put out by NPS I think. Like the one on top of Wasson peak in the Tucson mountains. Several of the notes in there seemed personal, almost like people were leaving their feelings there. The notes were from folks all over the country and one from Canada. They were also signed. One was signed by a family with the last name Cavanaugh. The jar was not really hidden. It was stuck in between some rocks. If anyone goes up there I signed a note and wrote first find? on it.
  3. Nothing in there mentioned geocaching. Several of the notes in there seemed personal, almost like people were leaving their feelings there. 4. I was out hiking and we found a large glass pickle jar with notes in it. It had a pencil, pencil sharpner, chap stick, and several hand written notes. I believe the oldest note was from 2004 and the newest was a few weeks ago. The coords are N32 20.769' W111 09.938' This is in the Tucson mountains at what we call panther peak. I will also post this in the southwest chat area. Any way of knowing if this is an official cache?

  6. You misunderstood sumpin'. You may want to read that hint again. oooooooooooops
  7. The cache listing guidelines specifically disallow buried caches. In the "Off Limits" section, you'll find the following: In the particular case of the cache you were hunting, I'd need to see the cache page to guess at the meaning of the hint you mentioned. Could you provide a link to the cache page (or post the GC #)? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...41-95b9c20fcb2c
  8. I was just kidding about the pick and shovel. Someone above said it cant be buried? I did not realize this. I looked at the hints prior to going and it mentions under a pile of sand. Did I misunderstand sumpin?
  9. Went on my first cache hunt today and did not find it. Kinda bummed about it. I had the family out and we did see a lot of cool stuff but no cache I am a pretty avid hiker/hunter/fisher and this is just another way to enjoy the great out doors. I just wish we had found it. It was a small one (mini m&m container) and a multi. I think I will try a bigger one next time. I chose the one I did because I had the whole family out including a one year old and four year old. The terrain was good for their ability. I will say I feel like going back out there now alone with a pick and shovel and not returning until I find it.
  10. I am in Avra Valley and I agree with the above.
  11. you are correct thanks I don't know much about Trips and Waypoint manager, but when you think about the fact that most people get it free with their Garmin GPS and use EasyGPS and/or GSAK instead, that says a lot. I downloaded easy GPS and it has worked. Thanks for your help.
  12. Thanks I am trying to get into the easy gps forums now. Do you know if my map points program I got with my Garmin is similar to the easy GPS program?
  13. I am trying to get into the forums at easy GPS. Is the Map point software I got with my Garmin supposed to let me download geocache cords to my GPS? Is map point a similar program to easy GPS?
  14. I have a Garmin Legend Cx. When I am looking at Geocaching in my zipcode I see a download button. Do I just connect my Garmin to the PC and click the download button? Is there anyway I can damage my GPS doing this? If it is just a matter of the above is there anyway I can download all the geocache in my area code with one download?
  15. I have a Garmin Legend Cx. I will be going out with it tomorrow for the first time. I am going into the Tucson mountains which I know pretty well already. I am going somewhere I know to get a feel for it.
  16. Thanks So there should be a go to option in my GPS? Here is another question. Is there a site where I can find cords for specific sites? For instance ribbon falls in the Grand Canyon.
  17. Thanks for the reply. I am a pretty avid hiker. I picked one real close to home just to get a feel for it.
  18. I went to my zipcode area and I found a Geocache site near me. Do I put the coordinates in my GPS and start walking? How can I tell where to start? I have this Trip and Waypoint manager that came with my GPS. I have managed to make my home a waypoint and this geocache as a waypoint. I dont understand how I make a route between the two. I have never used a GPS before so I am really starting at the bottom here. Any help would be appreciated. If it helps the site I found is N32 22.543 W111 08.486 and is called hole in rock. Shouldn't there be some instructions as to where I should start? Thanks
