  1. Has anyone ever tried the MIOX Purifier by MSR? I have one, but haven't used it yet and was just wondering how well it really works.
  2. In case anyone else is having the same problem here are some other polygon types that seem to show up ok in MapSource. 0x0007 - Airport 0x0017 - City Park 0x001e - State Park 0x004e - Orchard/Plantation 0x0052 - Tundra 0x0051 - Wetland/Swamp 0x004f - Scrub
  3. I am using this process to create hunting areas at a nearby lake. It's working great except for one thing. In GPSMapEdit I am defining the polygons as different types so that when two polygons are next to each other on the map I can set them at different types based on their colors. I don't really care what the actual type is i.e. airport, building, park, etc. I only want to be able to tell when I am leaving one hunting area and entering another because they are 2 different colors. I was able to do this within GPSMapEdit and it worked great, but once I got it to my Rino 530HCx, depending on what type I had previously defined, some of the polygons wouldn't show up or they would all be the same color. Hopefully that all makes sense. Does anybody have any ideas why MapSource won't recognize all the colors that are available in GPSMapEdit?
  4. I just uninstalled the software, copied the 3 disks to a new folder on my hard drive and re-installed from there. Worked great! Thanks for the info!
  5. Is there a way to copy the Mapsource Topo cd's to the hard drive so that you don't have to switch back and forth between the cd's?
  6. Thanks! I look forward to trying that out!
  7. I'm sure this may have been covered somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding an exact answer to what I'm needing. I purchased some high resolution aerial photos of a lake that I visit often. I am wanting to draw tracks over these photos because they are more detailed than Google Earth and would therefore be more accurate. My ultimate goal is to convert these tracks to boundaries and then overlay them onto my MapSource maps and download them to my Garmin Rino 530HCx. I came across an excellent post by RWS titled "Google Earth Maps to Custom Garmin Map, video tutorial" and will use some of what he recommends, but I was wondering what kind of software to use to insert the aerial photos and then draw tracks over them. I was trying to use GPSMapEdit, but it was telling me that my Jpegs weren't georeferenced. The cd that I bought containing the aerial photos has the files in .met file, .tfw file, and .tif file formats along with an application called "DLGV32V37.EXE" to view the drawings. At some point one of these file formats has to be already georeferenced because I can open them within the provided application and they automatically are placed with the proper coordinates, but that software is limited and won't let me draw tracks. Any ideas? Hopefully all this makes sense.
  8. I was able to do this and it worked great! I just followed the video step by step. Thanks for the post!!! My only question is is there any way to get the text "Map created with...." to disappear?
  9. Has anyone used DeLorme's Topo USA 6.0? I was just looking at it and it sounds like it may do a lot of the things I want. My question is, does it download to the Garmin handhelds, specifically the Rino 530.
  10. That did the trick. I actually named it "Active Log 001" and that worked. It doesn't show up in my "Tracks" list, but when I zoom to that area it is all there. Thanks for the input!
  11. Is there a limit on how many points a track can have? The reason I ask is because I did the path tool in Google Earth like recommended above and it worked great except that when I download the track into my GPS from MapSource only half of the track shows up. It shows up fine in MapSource, but only half of it makes it to my GPS unit. Any ideas?
  12. I can't answer any of your questions, but it sounds like you're wanting to do the same thing I want to do. I'll pass along any info that I get and I'd like to track this thread to see what kind of replies you get. Good luck!
  13. Are there any AutoCAD users on here? I use it every day at work and it would be easy to trace the drawing in CAD, but then I'm not sure how I would get it into MapSource. Plus there's the scaling issue.
  14. I am wanting to take an aerial photo, trace some boundaries within that photo (fencelines, roads, etc.), and then import those boundaries into MapSource so that I can download them onto my Garmin Rino 530. Does any one know of a good software to do that? I don't want to spend too much money if I don't have to. Thanks!
  15. One more question.... What kind of memory capability does the Rino 530 have? I mean I can get the specs for it online, but what I am wondering is how many maps I can download to it. Would I be able to download City Navigator along with a topo software and switch back and forth between the two?
  16. I am completely new to this and just got a Garmin Rhino 530. I was wondering what some recommendations might be for a good city street mapping software.
