  1. Fraygirls thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to finding some of the caches. There seem to be a lot around. Thanks again.
  2. I am going to Oak Island with my family on Memorial Day weekend. I looked at all the caches there and there is no way I will be able to get them all. So I am looking for suggestions of caches to do. We are also planning on visiting Fort Fisher and the Aquarium so any in that are would be great as well. Thanks in Advance for all of your help.
  3. In Upstate SC, Oconee State Park is a nice place to stay. Oconee State Park website There are 2 caches inside the park and plenty near by. Several of the nearby caches are located on trails that lead to waterfalls. Here is a link for one of the caches inside the park and you can see what caches are located near here. Oconee Trail
  4. My usual trade items are Bouncy Balls Mardi Gras Beads Glow-in-the-dark sticks, necklaces, and bracelets. These seem to work good for me. Sometimes when I get to a cache that doesn't have many kid items any it my kids don't mind taking one of these instead.
  5. I found one in South Carolina like you are talking about doing. It was Fort Rutledge. But I am pretty sure that our winters aren't the same as you winters. There is a picture of the cache on the page.
  6. One advantage to the Paperless caching that hasn't been discussed is the ability to decypher a hint quickly. I don't like to decypher the hints until I have to and it can be cumbersome with paper caching.
  7. Suprised we haven't heard from any local cachers about this. I'm visiting in September and would like to know the answer to this myself.
  8. I have done most of the caches in the State Park and they are pretty good. And although I haven't done them yet there are plenty on the old Air Force base. Also if you want a nice little hike and adventure you might want to try Avian Island #1. I didn't find it but still had a great time. It is just across the state line in NC. If you have kids caching with you they might enjoy this zoo cache. Hope you give us an update on caches you did so I can choice some new ones to do when I go to MB later this year.
  9. Hey edchen, Give us an update. Has anyone used their screwdriver yet? Enguiring mines want to know.
  10. Here is a message I got from Kevin Bryant (my state Senator and geocacher) on Janauary 26th concerning this. "I doubt if the sub committee will meet on the bill any time soon." Not much but from the sound of it this is not a high priority on the Senates list. Just a little info for you.
  11. I believe the term Paper is wrong. With the search I did it never once showed up earthshaker. I did however find another name at several sources. Just my 2 cents.
  12. My three kids boy - 8 girl - 5 boy - 2 all love to geocache. They especially like the ones that are near bodies of water. And their favorites would have to be caches located in parks with playgrounds. And of course they hate micros or virtuals, unless in a park. Geocaching has really helped me to get my kids to enjoy the outdoors as much as I do. My wife on the other hand isn't that fond of caching. She has started to come around some though. But she just loves it on Saturday morning when I tell her "Me and the kids are going geocaching." Overall though we've had many great family outings with this hobby, way of life, addiction, whatever it's called.
  13. So I have a quick question. Is it taboo for a premium member to take a regular member to a Member's Only cache. And if that happened is there anyway for the regular member to log the find online?
  14. The best "clever hide" I found was while on vacation in Charleston. The cache was hidden in the post of a plague. The name of the cache was the same as the title of the plague. I looked around for a while until I finally figured out that the wood the plague was on was attached with hidden hinges. Just pulled up on the plague and there was cache. Right there in front of you but yet still hidden. I felt real silly after figuring it out. Another clever hide I found was in the usual hole in a tree. Only instead of the cache being down in the hole, the hider had put a large magnet up the hole so the cache would be towards the top. Looked in the hole several times before thinking to look up. Felt foolish after that one too.
  15. As I haven't done the first one yet I can't attest to how the sequel should vary. However noting that there are over 200 people watching the original I would say it is worth doing. And from what I can tell it is one of( if not the most) talked about caches on the forums. So again I would say yes to a sequel.
  16. So I was looking at a cache page (Tube Torcher), and i noticed 212 user were watching it. My question is this. What is the most watched cache out there? Has anyone seen a cache with more people watching it?
  17. Of course all of this post has been talking bad about PI. But it does have one attribute. It helps keep muggles away Yes to me the cup is half full.
  18. WH, just wondering Is that your signature item? It is green.
  19. I am very allergic to poison ivy. If I come in contact with it I usually have to get a shot from the doctor because of the blisters. Does it keep me from geocaching? No. What I worry about in places with Poison Ivy is the reception that my GPS is receiving. Usually if I am in Poison Ivy, I am searching for a cache that has a lot of tree cover. I guess I should be more like Jeep_Dog and dress for the stuff. But High Humidity and High Temp isn't exactly long sleeve weather for me. And usually I plan on getting wet after the cache as most are near streams, rivers, or waterfalls. So I usually choose to run the risk and search for the cache in shorts. Then on Monday I call my doctor and tell him to get the needle ready.
  20. There is a cache near Anderson that is suppose to be haunted Old Dixon Bridge. The locals all call it Cry Baby Bridge. I saw one listed on the Shadowlands website. But does this really count as a haunted location or an Urban Legend? I'm pretty sure I've heard of other Crybaby Bridges throughout the country.
  21. Let's see. I live in Anderson hence the Anderson part. And I drive a 1965 Ford Falcon Ranchero. In some places I use the name ranchero, others 65ranchero. But I have found that I can always use andersonranchero because noone ever has that name.
  22. So I have always wondered. What do you do if you ask the proper authorities and they discover geocaches on their land they didn't know about? You run the risk of losing some caches. I know everyone is suppose to ask for appropriate permission, but I'm sure that doesn't always happen. Has anyone had this happen? Just wondering
  23. If you're real allergic to it like I am, you can get a shot from your doctor. Clear it right up.
  24. So correct me if I'm wrong. I have read most of the posts and most seem to be concerned with why this is a bad bill. In this forum you are preaching to the choir. So we accomplish nothing by ranting and raving. We have been given a stay of execution so to speak on this issue. Is there a way we can use this time to better educate the state Senators concerning geocaching? Do we know which Senators support the bill? Just an idea but could we invite the state Senators to some of the SCGA meetings that are held? Of course only effective if Senators actually attend. Also only effective if we use it to show the true spirit of geocaching and not as an ambush to rant and rave on the bill. Should we try to use the media to our advantage? I know in the upstate there is one newsman who travels the area to try new and interesting activities. Maybe someone could invite him on a geocaching outing. Just a few questions and ideas.
  25. Great to have new geocachers in the area. The mountains in the Oconee-Pickens area have some great caches. Most include a nice hike and many include a visit to a waterfall. RtheJudge I'm a little upset though. You beat me to hiding two caches in the Walhalla area. Fish Pond Micro and Sertoma. I work about 5 miles from each. I guess I will have to find another place for my first hidden cache. Again welcome to the sport. andersonranchero
