    Jozo Caches

Hi 951999 I'm the cache owner fo the Jozo Weider Cache Series. Yes the caches are there. The Jozo Weider Series include caches of varies sizes and shapes. Some are easy. Some are difficult. Some are big. Some are little. All are well camoflagued since this is a very busy area. Keep looking. Be patient. If that doesn't work...Feel free to email me for some more hints. I'm always happy to help out with newbies!
  2. I'm on the library board in the Town of Blue Mountains in Grey County. These "Geocaching Kits" have been extremely popular! There's been a waiting list of the kits ever since they were introduced last year. These kits are checked out like other materials/books. All you need is a library card. I've also donated a slew of other geocaching books for patrons who want further info. Mny members of our community have had their start geocaching with these kits!
  3. Anyone know of any soap and/or shampoo that dooesn't attack mosquitoes? I don't like getting bit on my sweet-smelling head!!!
  4. I think they had good intentions, but they missed the mark. On the one hand.... The cache placements were not clever. And were often hidden in uninteresting locations. I've found a few that are (too) close to some fabulous /scenic /interesting hiding spots. (Now those spots are available to place new caches!) I found one cache that was hidden in the middle of a huge patch of poison ivy. Yikes! Those are problems when (non-local)people try to hide caches in areas that aren't familiar to them. Local OGPSTH caches were never maintained. That's a problem. On the other hand... The clear tupperware attached to trees with bungee cords were great for kids and newbies. Very easy to find. Kids an newbies get pretty excited when they make a find. And conversly, they get pretty discouraged if they keep getting DNFs. Not all caches need to be difficult. It's nice to have variety.
  5. I'm co-hosting a weekend of geocaching at Blue Mountain in Collingwood on Sept 20-21st. It's going to be heaps of fun! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...9f-3bb203d51f0c On Saturday and Sunday Blue Mountain is hosting their Second Annual Geocache Blue event. For Saturday - they're offering 2 sessions of a very cool sounding geocache circuit. It's geered towards newbies but it'd also be loads of fun for families. This is a fundraising event to raise $ for the new Blue Mountain Medical Centre in Thornbury. For $20 bucks each team gets access to a GPSr (if they don't have one) and pass for the gondola. They can choose between 3 courses of different levels of terrain difficulty. It sounds like a cross between regular caching, orienteering and a rally. It should be heaps of fun. There will also be prizes prizes prizes!!!!! Last year Blue gave 3 shiny new GPSrs as prizes!!! For Sunday morning- we're helping out with some basic geocaching workshops for newbies. Then Sunday lunch is the COG lunch at Tholos Restaurant in the Village. Everyone welcome. New, old and non-cachers alike! On Sunday afternoon- after the lunch - head out and find some of the fabulous caches in the area in Collingwood, along the shore of Georgian Bay and up on the Niagara Escarpment. I'm working with Blue Mountain Resorts on an accommodation package for geocachers who'd like to come for the entire weekend of caching events. Please note- Blue Mountain has asked for some help from COG with some of their events: On Saturday we need a few mentors to help out the with newbies on the geocaching tours; On Sunday we need some help from anyone who could run a wee info session on some basic geocahing topics. Nawty has already offered to do one. These sessions will be held inside in Tholos Restaurant. (i.e. electricity and wireless connections.) Blue Mountain will offer a special accommodation deal for anyone who helps with mentoring Saturday or with the workshops on Sunday. Please contact me directly if you could help. Check out the Blue Mountain website: http://www.bluemountain.ca/index.htm To find "Geocache Blue" go to "things to do" then select "events calendar".
  6. On the one hand, I love the new driving directions. I use a basic (eTrex Legend) GPSr. So the driving directions are very very very useful to me. Fabulous. Thank you! On the other hand, I have a problem with them. It seems that the driving directions are based on the cache coordinates rather than parking coordinates. Frequently the parking coordinates or trail-head are quite different to the closest road to the cache. As a cache owner I have a serious concern about this. For most of my caches I take the time to give additional waypoints to my cache pages so that cachers may find the (less than obvious) parking coordinates or trail-head. For one cache in particular (GC1C0AW -Kionontio-I'm the King of the Castle) I've given clear warnings on my cache page about using the correct trail-head/parking to access the cache. There is a road fairly close to the cache. (The new "driving directions" lead to this location.) However this is all private property. I don't have permission from the property owners. They would NOT like a bunch of geocachers traipsing across their land. If I feel that people are ignoring my warning, I will have to archive this cache. That would be a shame, since (in my humble opinion) this is a fabulous unique cache!!!! Although not everyone will use these new "driving directions" (many of my friends still aren't aware of them).... it seems a shame to (possibly) negate the efforts of those of us who give additional waypoints on our cache pages to indicate trail-heads/parking coordinates. I'm not a techie but....I have an idea of a fix(that might not work due to my lack of technical knowledge.) Could you automatically redirect the "driving directions" when ever an additional waypoint indicates parking coordinates or trail-head? Or (even better)from the managing waypoint page, could you add a button /check-off thing where we could select one of these way points as the focus of the "driving directions"? geocaching.com please help. I don't want to be forced to archive "GC1C0AW -Kionontio" because of this glitch. In the short time that it's been available, people have loved this special caching adventure. It's on many cachers, to-do lists.
  7. Ticks in Ontario? Yikes! I didn't know. Where were you hiking? I hike on the Bruce Trail all the time (mostly BlueMountain section and north.) I've never done a tick search while living in Ontario. EEgad! In the mid 80's, when I lived in Nova Scotia, a wee tick took up residence on my thigh for a few days. I still have a bump on my leg to prove it!
  8. I can think of 2: True North and Magnetic North.
  9. Yup! Mercator it is. That was obviously too easy for you!
  10. Sorry for taking so long.... Here's a navigation question (from my days navigating from a sailboat): Five ceturies ago a chart was designed to deal with the issues of using 2 dimenionals (paper) to navigate in a 3 dimentional world (circular globe). This method of representing navigational charts is still used today. What is the name of that method of charting?
  11. Aie! I climbed Ben Nevis a few years ago. Long climb. Great view on a hot and sunny day in the highlands. Good post-climb lager in Fort William! So I guess it's my turn now.... Give me a moment to think of a good question...
  12. Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.
  13. Check out the "Education in Geocaching" Forum. There are great ideas in there.
  14. Thanks for all the great ideas. I especially liked the unactivated TB and geocoins and the cache-within-a-cache ideas. I've just had my first 3 caches published so I didn't have time to get those ready. Instead I left gift certificates to the cinema and TimHorton's. My FTF really liked the cinema gift cert.
  15. I've just hidden my first caches. But I'm a bit of a techno nellie... not too savy. How do I get the map to show up on my cache page?
  16. -GPS -extra batteries -AA for GPS and AAA for camera -tiny camera -cache swag -binoculars -bird book -sunscreen -extra ziplock baggies -extra pen and pencils -extra log books -loaded cache (in case I find a good spot) -personal log book for writing TB#s etc -H2O but I never ever carry a gun! Yikes!
  17. -winter caches (40% DNF) hopefully that'll get better since I'm just a newbie. -missing (now disabled) -and a few times I've had to DNF because I CNR (could not reach!) I could see the cache but I'm too short to reach it!
  18. I' a newbie and I'm about to hide my first caches. What are some good things to leave for FTF? I've got 3 FTF's myself. Only one of them had a special prize for FTF. (Gift certificate for a Tim Horton's coffee.) I'd love to hear some other great ideas.
  19. I'm getting ready to hide my first cache(s). &I'd like to leave something cool for FTF. I've found 3 FTFs myself and only one had a FTF prize (a gift certificate for a coffee at Tim Horton's). What are some good FTF gifts that you have found or hidden??
  20. Thanks for all the great tips, ideas and encouragement!
  21. I'm a newbie. I was wondering how long I should wait before I hide my own cache? (I've found 25.) I live in a rural area that is a 2-3 hour drive from any major urban centres. Our economy is largely based on outdoor sports tourism. This should be an ideal area for geocaching. But I don't think there are many geocachers who live here. There aren't very many caches in the area. But there are lots of geocachers passing through on vacation. There are tons of great trails in this area. I have lots of ideas for good cache locations. But I haven't been at this for very long. Any tips on hiding a cache? Should I get more finds under my belt first? I wondering if someone could mentor me regarding hiding a cache...
  22. I can't believe that there are people in there 90s doing this!!
