  1. I don't have any functioning Visors at the moment, sorry... Hello are you expecting more usb style pda's in the future? Ray
  2. Thanx for the warm welcome! I plan I taking my kids with me (one at a time though) whenever I go caching. So far my 14 yr. old son seems to enjoy the hiking and I like to see him get outdoors more so this should be a good hobby for us. My 9 yr. old daughter has been dying to go with me but I want to be sure of what I'm doing( nearly got lost in the woods last time lol). Even my 16 yr. old daughter is interested in this. Just learning how to use a gps in the wilderness could be a lifesaver! Ray Ray, I have learned to mark my vehicle as a waitpoint, your GPSr can lead you back to your car after you find the caches! R_D Yup luckily I found my way back ! Next time I will be more careful especially since winter has started to set in around here.. Ray
  3. What would you say is a decent compass for a reasonable price? I agree that a backup to gps could a real lifesaver. I definitely would need to learn how to navigate with it though. Thanx, Ray
  4. Thanx for defining that for me. Ray

  6. Hello All! I am fairly new here and a newcomer to geocaching as well. First I'd like to thank all here as I learned alot about using my eXplorist 200 which I recieved as a gift a couple years ago. It just sat there gathering dust because I wanted a GPS for navigating my truck and found it useless in this regard. About 6 mos. ago I bought a Streetpilot i3 and it does the job well. Anyways I thought it would be great if I could find a use for my 200 and now I use it for caching and will also use it for hiking. To change the subject I noticed I started as a tadpole here and now am a geocacher. My son and I have found 3 caches so far. Is this the reason for the status change? Down the road I definitely will want a gps that I can connect to my pc via usb cable and then probably pay for membership here. Maybe I'll get lucky and pick up a deal here. Sorry for the incoherant rambling. Take Care, Ray
  7. Hi Rod, How much are you asking for the GPS only? Ray
  8. Gotta say that really is wierd! Noticed you never got a reply to that question. Maybe I can buy the item and pay with British pounds? I do have some funny money left from my stint in the Navy.. Ray
  9. Hello from a fellow Mass. cacher! I live in Carver and so far found 3 caches with one of my sons.. Ray
  10. Follow the black one and you'll be good to go.. Ray ok thanks. thats what i though. does anyone know what the point of the white one is. i looked on the online manual and it didnt really say anything. My guess would be to mimic a real compass. Ray
  11. Follow the black one and you'll be good to go.. Ray
  12. Would you take $130 PM Sent Just got home from work guess I missed the boat? Oh well that's the way the gps crumbles. Ray
  13. Sorry I mentioned that at all. This thread really has nothing to do with cell phones - I just used VZ as an example of how much their service costs as a basis to compare it against total cost of ownership of a GPS. Ray, since losing your signal is "not a predicament you'd want to be in," how much do you spend on your GPS and keeping it up to date? Hi Lee, I own a Garmin Streetpilot i3 to find my way on the streets and an eXplorist 200 for hiking and caching. I do want a gps that will connect to my pc so I may add to what I have now. I have always spent too much on technology. Let's just say my wife doesn't always approve lol.. Ray
  14. Uh, thanks. I think But I didn't mean it as a game. I was wondering about economics and business models. Usually hobbies don't get subject to a cost/benefit analysis. In another thread, someone mentioned Verizon's Navigator service, which provides limited GPS and mapping capabilities on your cellphone. $10/mo subscription (or $3/day pay-as-you go) plus airtime. Not so useful for cachers or serious outdoors types. But for urban traveler who need GPS once in a while, maybe a good deal. And for the neophyte, maybe a good way to get exposed to the advantages of having a GPS. So... this "game" goes back to business models. If there were a practical way to provide a full featured GPS and mapping service on a subscription basis - what would be an attractive price? Keep in mind if you lose your cell phone signal you lose gps too.. Not a predicament I'd want to be in. GPS always pretty much works for the most part at least much better than cell phone coverage.. Ray
  15. Suggested Retail Price: $149.32 U.S.D. (for domestic US market only) I got this off Garmin's site you may want to lower your price. Ray
  16. I currently own a Garmin Streetpilot i3 for automotive navigating and a Magellan eXplorist 200 for geocaching. Ray
  17. Maybe my explanation in this topic will help. Also check out the full owners manual here. Hi Zeke, I'm happy to report that I did alot of digging online and learned more about my gps. While not ideal it does the trick and my son and I found our 1st cache! Thanx for your time and effort in replying to my questions. If I do enough geocaching I may invest in a gps that has usb capabilities to make entering coords more accurate. Take Care, Ray
  18. Maybe my explanation in this topic will help. Also check out the full owners manual here. Thanx Zeke that answered my question. Magellan leaves alot to be desired when it comes to documentation. I also have a Garmin StreetPilot i3 for my car and it works terrific and Garmin's support and mapping are very good. Do you know of a site with in-depth tutorials using an eXplorist 200 for geocaching by any chance? Ray
  19. Hello Zeke, I am a Newbie with an Explorist 200 and can't find info on how enter coords by hand so I can try my hand at geocaching. Could you supply some links where I can learn how to use this gps for geocaching? Thanx, Ray
