  1. 50 as of Jan.2, 2007! Rocks don't even live this long! My youngest son who usually comes with me is 14. Also, have 22 yr. old son(left the nest), 21 yr. old daughter in college, 16 yr. old daughter and 9 yr. old daughter. Ray
  2. 1) I am Not callous with other peoples lives, Its My Job to take care of other peoples lives. 2) Its not over inflated. Go to a local store and check for your self. So I don't shop on the Internet and Id rather give my money to a local store than the great Amazon gods, so would many others id bet. As to trying to pull one over on uneducated buyers, I'm not that either. It is open to trade and 10 to 1 if you were to Email me, Id work something out like lowering the price. the entire point I have tried to make is obviously lost on you people, so we will skip that. I'm not out to screw anybody and if someone emailed me an offer less than the listed price, then I'm open to negotiation. I don't discuss business in front of general public, its just how its done in the civil world. You people treat me like I'm a Ebay baron or gouger. Have you considered where I have to ship it from? I'm stationed in Korea, shipping is expensive and I am including it in the price, I'm actually loosing money on it as it is. How is that screwing or price gouging? put some more thought into flaming someone before taking into consideration the circumstances. I'm not screwing anyone by offering to take a trade. I'm open to negotiation, but instead of trying that route you just label me a price gouger. That's very 10th grade of you. You are the one who needs his head checked. Sorry I can't do business with you, or anyone else here apparently. Not because of lack of responses, but because of lack of class on your part. I've tried to be as honest as possible, and straight to the point, but you still don't get it so I'm going to be the bigger of us and walk away. I would be lying if I said that accusing me of being callous with other peoples lives didn't hurt, As an NCO that's what I do, take care of soldiers and bring them home. You have no merit on which to base that statement on and are just trying to lash out, that's fine do what you do and I will continue to do what I do. As to the price gouging, Find it at a local store and tell me its over inflated. I looked when I was on leave and couldn't find it any cheaper than $260 at the local bass pro shops store. Excuse me for not looking on the net, as I prefer to live my life outside of the computer screen. -Bill Hi Bill, I'm not gonna pass judgement on this rino thing I just want to say thanx for serving our country and keeping it free.. I served in the Navy from 75-78 active then drilling reserve from 78-80. Please tell your buddies many of us here in the USA appreciate what you do for us.. A veteran from my last employer had a sticker on rear window of his truck that read "Freedom Isn't Free" and I think that says it all. There is a price to be paid for everything in life. Stay Safe, Ray
  3. Those will all fit easily on a 512MB card. I use a 1GB card in my streetpilot i3 and fit the continental usa on it with about 100mb to spare for poi's. Ray
  4. It doesn't make sense that an electronic device would lock up because it's cold. Makes me think there is a defect in the gps unit. Modern electronics are pretty tolerant of normal temperature extremes. I leave my gps on the truck windshield (Garmin Streetpilot i3) for hours with temps in the teens and it has no affect on it at all. Have you tried contacting Magellan about this problem? Ray Maybe the cold just affects the ability of the batteries to power the unit. From Magellans specs on eXplorist 500: "Operating Range 14 to 140°F (-10 to 60°C) " For whatever reason min. temp is 14 degrees F. Makes me curious what my i3 specs are.. Ray

  6. Good luck with the auction Dan I'm sure someone will buy it. What are you planning to buy for your next gps? Ray
  7. Yes, we purchased the City Navigator NA NT, V8 It sounds like it might be worth making the investment in the 2 GB card ... now I just need to find a good deal! I fit the continental usa on a 1 gig for my streetpilot i3 and you have about 100 megs free however you can install let's say just the east or west coast for example and have tons of room to spare. If you think about it how often will you travel the entire usa? Just my 2 cents worth... Ray
  8. My advice here is to buy inexpensive Nimh batteries with a charger and get 2 sets so you have a spare set. I do this with my digital camera. A cigarette lighter adapter is a good idea for your car so you need no batteries for driving. Ray
  9. Hi Marilyn, I own both brands and I have to say I am a Garmin fan. The one big advantage that Garmin has is their superior tech support. Try giving them both a toll free call and ask questions about what you need and you'll see what I'm talking about. As far as I'm concerned tech support from the Phillipines or India stinks! At Garmin you get an american and lemme tell you it is MUCH better! My car gps is Garmin and it works well plus Garmin allows you to install that mapping software on one more compatible garmin gps. Try that with Magellan! Mapping software is expensive too plus Navteq is the best in usa. Good Luck, Ray
  10. According to Garmin site there are no authorized Garmin dealers at ebay. I'd rather not do business there and avoid it with electronics that are expensive due to warranty issues. Sometimes you're better off paying more or locally for that matter. Thanx for the feedback. Ray
  11. Interested in the 60Cx and looking for best deal possible. Any info appreciated. Thanx, Ray
  12. Could you please quote the prices on what they have I am very interested. Even the B&W legends are good. Thank you for your time. Ray Do you know the price on the explorist 500's too? Thanx, Ray

  14. Get your manual by clicking this link http://www.garmin.com/manuals/eTrexLegend_OwnersManual.pdf . On my eXplorist 200 to enter coordinates I just click "mark" then scroll to the coordinates then change the values to the ones I need then save as a poi. From there I click "go to" then select the poi and I'm on my way. I generally use the compass screen to find the cache. Your best bet though is get advice from another legend user here (there are many!) Good Luck, Ray
  15. Sounds like POILoader is creating proximity alerts in your POI instead of plain old points, Thrak. If you're running POILoader in express mode, try going to manual mode and unchecking the silly proximity alert box if it comes up checked by default. In manual mode, I'm seeing some of my files default to just being points (alert checkbox unselected), while other files always come up with the alert box checked in manual mode and wacky defaults for speed/distance. Doesn't seem tied to .csv vs .gpx, or large numbers of points vs a handful, or anything that seem particularly obvious to me. Seems like POILoader is trying to automagically guess what the source file contains (alerts vs points), and isn't always guessing right. I suggest you try using Garmin's poi beta loader. I've run it with no problems: http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=1673 Change History Changes made from version 2.3.2 to 2.4.0: Added support for Windows Mobile devices. Added support for uninstalling all custom POI's from a device. Added support for subcategories of POI's. Added support for handling individual bitmap symbols for each subcategory of POI's. Added support for jpeg (.jpg) images that can be associated with POI's. Added support for wave (.wav) files POI alerts. Added support for allowing users to specify a 'Link' directory that contain POI associations, such as bitmap (.bmp) symbols, jpeg (.jpg) images, mp3 (.mp3) audio files, or wave (.wav) audio files. Added support for contact information and address information that can be specified in a GPX (.gpx) file. Added a command line option to POI Loader to run automatically without requiring user interaction. Added the ability to choose POI files to ignore. Check for validity of the drive name in the POI path. Ray
  16. I would be interested in an eXplorist 210 for $60.00 or the Garmin color legend cx or vista cx, do they have those too? Thanx, Ray
  17. Thanx I found the settings. Ray
  18. Hello Robert, Your post was both enlightening and entertaining! I use a Garmin Streetpilot i3 for auto navigation which I feel does an excellent job for such a tiny unit. I know that Garmin uses Navteq mapping which is considered to be the best for USA. Does Magellan use this as well and if they do does their poor routing have more to do with a poorly designed routing engine? Thanx, Ray
  19. Curious as to why your price here was $110.00 and Buy It Now price at ebay is $95.00? Ray
  20. Hello folks, For some reason no matter that I set up my account for eastern time the time for posts is always 3 hrs. off. Did I set up something wrong or is this "normal"? Thanx, Ray
  21. Any quality sd card should work fine. Magellan just brands their cards I am sure. I have a Garmin car gps and I bought a kingston 1gb microSD and it works fine. I think the package you're looking at is a good deal. The biggest negative I've heard about is Magellan support. Garmin's support reputation is excellent. I own an eXplorist 200 and it works well. What I like about the eXplorist 500 kit is you get the navigation software and color screen and in my mind that would be a great gps for motorcycling and also for hiking/geocaching at a bargain price. Good Luck, Ray
