  1. Boy, I wish you'd posted this sooner than the day before. I might've taken you up on it, but it was too short of notice.
  2. I think that's a great idea - I may have to steal it Seriously, I think polished stones (especially semi-precious ones such as the ones you've mentioned) are very cool things to find. I've left a polished sodalite at least once, but just by itself - I love the idea of a baggie with some info on the stone! bunnylady =:3
  3. [Raising my hand and yelling "I know, I know!!"] It's from one of my all-time favorite silly movies, "Airplane!": Tower Guy: Chief, this weather bulletin just came off the wire. MCrosky: Johnny, what can you make outta this? Johnny: This? Why I could make a hat, or a brooch, a pterodactyl... --Larry **Dingdingding** We have a winner! Five points to Larry! "Surely you can't be serious!" Yes, I am. And don't call me Shirley.
  4. I'm a very new cacher, and haven't placed one of my own, but when I take something I've gotten into the habit of leaving a bandana. They're $1 at WalMart, and fold up nicely into ziplock-bag size. They seem to go over pretty well, because the logs indicate they're usually the first thing the next person grabs. I figure they're handy and versatile - you can use it as a scarf, or a neckerchief or a sweatband or pour water on it and use it to cool down or clean off (you can make a hat, or a brooch or a pterodactyl.....[five points to the first one who gets that reference]... )
  5. FYI, I only thought it was possible because it was my last cache of the day, and I went straight home after that.
  6. I was getting ready to download some coords this morning - and can't find my GSPr!! . . . . . . Actually, I'm happy to report that I found it in the house! It appears to have fallen off the table and into a box on the floor, which then tipped over. I feel kind of dumb, but I'm glad I found it. It shows how addicted I've gotten that if I couldn't find it by the end of the day, I was going to run out to Circuit City and buy a new one immediately! Nancy (bunnylady)
  7. I'm a relatively new cacher in Florida, and already I've noticed a trend. Nearly every cache is concealed in some way by Spanish Moss. A cache on the ground is almost always covered with a clump of the stuff. Hanging micros are draped with it. If I'm in the right vicinity and can't locate the cache, I start poking at the larger moss-bunches. It's like, the perfect cache-camoflage. It's lightweight, it doesn't get soggy when it's wet, and (at least down here....) it's everywhere!!! Just curious....if you're not from the Southeastern US, what do you use?
  8. I've seen inkstamps on logs I've signed. Where do you get them?? I have a similar log-signing problem - I take a medication that causes a fine hand-tremor. I can sign logs, but the teeny ones don't end up really legible. I'd love to get a personalized stamp with a bunny on it - anybody know of a source for them?
  9. Maybe he has a reptile dysfunction.....
  10. Yesterday, we went to the Bay Area Renaissance Festival in Tampa, FL(We go every year; dress up and everything!). This year we were meeting up with friends outside the main gate, and parking was a nightmare, so we were hanging around for quite awhile. As often happens, we struck up a conversation with another family standing nearby who was also waiting for someone. Never met them before; they were just fun to talk to. Then they mentioned that they were Geocachers! (GodinDraak, actually) No wonder they were such cool people! Of course, we had even more to talk about while we waited! I understand meeting fellow cachers at events, or on the trail, but is it common to stumble on one like this? I just thought it was really cool!
  11. Thanks, everybody! I knew I could count on you to give me some encouragement and good advice. I'm ready to give it another try this weekend (preferably with my husband ("bunnygent??") coming with me), possibly avoiding the micros for a little while yet. This is a great community! I'm looking forward to meeting some of the Tampa-area cachers at the Meet&Eat next month. bunnylady/Nancy
  12. I've been playing for three whole weeks now! I couldn't find the cache on my first try, but then I had 10 finds in a row. Today I was 0 for 4. I know they weren't that hard, and I know I was pretty much right on top of them, but I'll be danged it I could find them! I see these people on here with thousands of finds, who get dozens in one day. Do they have "off" days? How do I keep from getting discouraged/frustrated?? Nancy
  13. Hey! I posted this in "general" forums, but it was suggested that it might be better here. I just got me a li'l Garmin eTrex and decided to try Geocaching because it sounded like fun (my sister's and several friends's families are involved in it) and because, frankly, I need the exercise. I made my first attempt to find a cache last weekend. I had a nice walk in Alderman's Ford Park, but I couldn't find the cache. I think I may need a little help from a more experienced cacher to get started. I live just west of Plant City (just down the road from the dinosaur-park). If anyone's caching in that area (or Hillsborough County in general) anytime soon and wouldn't mind a noobie tagging along, please let me know. Thanks! Nancy

  15. It seems only polite to introduce myself when joining a new community, so - Hi everybody! I'm Bunnylady, and I live in Plant City, Florida (just east of Tampa). I'm 43, married, with a house-rabbit and no kids. I'm a total newbie to geocaching. In fact, I'm such a total newbie that I haven't even started yet! I bought a Garmin eTrex on eBay (for $64.00!) and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I found out about the game/sport/activity (which is it?) from my sister, whose husband and boys go geocaching on weekends, and from a high-school friend in Albuquerque who uses it for field trips with her homeschooled kids. I've been spending way too much time indoors lately! I am in desperate need of exercise and fresh air, but I hate the "walking for the sake of walking" that so many people do. I think having place that I'm walking *to*, with a "reward" of sorts at the end, would make me much more likely to get out and do it! Any suggestions, tips, and/or encouragement to an absolute newbie would be welcome! Posts or emails from other players in my area would also be nice. Love the site, BTW! Nancy
