  1. It is awesome that I have seen some of the Geomate.jr people on here answering questions about their own product. Inquiring minds would like to know what do you have in the future pipeline? It is a great product it looks like and i have been considering picking one up for the kids to play with since we like to go "treasure hunting" when we are out and about some times. BUT since I am a tech geek, I am always trying to see what the next cool thing around the corner is. Any insider information would be awesome.
  2. I was using geobeagle on my sprint hero phone before I returned it for no other reason except for verizon backed out of waiving my ETF. Darn them!!!!! Anyway, my short experience with the geobeagle/hero was favorable.
  3. Well if I didn't know any better, I would say that container looks almost exactly like a Garmin street pilot!!!!
  4. Crap. I was just checking to see if there were any still available.
  5. Hello from Angola!!! Been here for a few months now and just saying hi. Can't wait for the snow to melt.

  7. Trust me, i've already read through the blog and the delorme forums. I echo the sentiments of many that I would rather receive the update right then sooner. I do have things like work to keep me occupied in the meantime.
  8. I agree marty. However, it doesn't matter. I shipped the unit out to someone today.
  9. So, what can we expect to see in the next firmware update? Is there going to be an update for both the 20 and 40? and will the cache registry be released and compatible with both? I received my 40 before the holidays and once the weather clears up i can't wait to get out and play.
  10. I have never had a colorado but I love my pn40. Much faster then the pn20 ( i have one of those too).
  11. Well, I bit the bullet and purchased the Delorme PN-40 so I have a PN-20 that I am going to put up for sale. The 20 that I have is new, never used (The only use it has seen is batteries put in, turned on, signal acquired, and turned back off and put back in the packaging). Long story short, it was a replacement for an old unit and I decided to go ahead and get the '40 because I found it on sale and heard such great reviews. Included with the unit is the USB cable, Topo Software, and manuals, and I'll even throw in a 1 or 2 GB SD card and a card reader. I'd say $175 including shipping sounds fair to me. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me. As soon as I receive payment, it will be in the mail and if all things work out, it will be in your hands before the holidays!!!
  12. Well it all depends on what you are planning on doing with it. I think that both units are great units with the maps that you can use on them. If you are planning on using it for hiking, geocaching, etc. the 20 is a great unit especially considering the price that you can find them nowadays. I loved the 20 and never had any complaints. The biggest problem that I think people had was the screen redraw and for me, the only time that I thought it was slow at all was when I was zoomed in too close while using the unit in the car. If you find the happy medium of zooming out and still having map detail, it will do the trick for you. The 40 is just faster in every regard. I haven't compared the 2 side by side yet to see if there was a difference in maintaining a signal lock or not. I've been sick as a dog lately and haven't gotten a chance to go outside and play much! LOL.
  13. I'm surprised too. I have one I'm contemplating letting go of since I got my new 40 last week!!!
  14. Well if you check out the Delorme blog (http://blog.delorme.com/) you will see that they are getting rid of the 800 character limit, have developed a widget that will enable you to load caches without having to load them into topo first. "Word on the streets" is that this firmware update/widget is supposed to be up and running by the holiday season for everyone to take advantage of their new xmas toys. (Anxiously awaiting my new pn-40 to arrive in the mail today!!!!!)
  15. What about checking out the new Delorme PN-40? Has both the tri-axial compass and barometric altimeter. I haven't gotten to test all the features yet as mine is being shipped still, but some users have already started posting their results since they jumped on board early on and pre-ordered theirs.

  17. Well, I bit the bullet and purchased a Delorme PN-20 so I have some old toys to get rid of to justify my purchase. I have an explorist 500 for sale. I used this GPS for about 6 months and has been sitting, untouched for the last 6 months. The explorist was an excellent first GPS for me as I had NO problems with the unit at all. Included with this GPS are the MapSend Topo 3D maps that came with the unit, 2 GB SD Card, 3 Li-Ion rechargeable batteries, the USB cable, a car charger, and a home charger. Both chargers are able to attach to the USB cable to charge the battery internally. The 500 has also been flashed with the EU firmware version 2.57. This firmware that was not released for the North American explorists worked on mine and has enabled the GPS to remain WAAS capable. I just fired up the GPS this morning and verified that it is still tracking the WAAS satellites. I'm looking for $135 with everything included. I'm not going to charge anything extra for shipping. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!!!!
  18. I'm going to add another vote for the PN-xx series. The PN20 while a bit slower then some people want, is a great gps with all of the things you can do with the maps. It is the third gps that I have owned. I had an old Garmin (can't remember the model off the top of my head since I am at work) that worked well but was black and white screen. My 2nd gps was the explorist 500 (I have to say that what I paid for it was a steal and it was a great unit). I had no complaints and never had to deal with customer service so it was a fantastic unit that still works awesome today. My 3rd gps is my PN-20. It is a bigger package then the explorist but has been a great unit for me for the past year. The ability to download a variety of maps with their new annual download subscription is HUGE. There is a little bit of a learning curve to the software but nothing that is too intimidating if you put in a little work. Now I am contemplating an early xmas present for myself and going to purchase the pn-40 that is shipping now. Some of the limitations that were had on the PN-20 (mostly screen redraw speeds) seem to have been addressed and all reports are this is leaps and bounds ahead of the 20. The screen size has never been an issue for me. If I can't see the screen while I am out hiking, then I need to find another hobby because if I can't read something 2 feet away from my face, what else am I not going to see???? lol
  19. per the Delorme blog, the new widget that they are working on that is due out before the holidays will enable you to decide what information you want included in the geocaching specific firmware update they are working on. logs, full description, hints, cache size, owner, etc. You will also have the ability to organize the order that this information will be displayed. I have an explorist that hasn't been out of the closet for over a year since i bought my PN-20. There is nothing wrong with the unit and I loved it. Now I am debating about parting ways with my 20 and even the explorist in order to purchase the 40.
  20. And if you look around a little bit, some people have already found the PN 40 on other websites for a discount. Granted they haven't been released yet so we are all still waiting but...... Never hurts to save a little cash.
  21. I think someone over on the Delorme forum said they saw on Amazon that shipping would be on Oct. 24/25. I don't know how solid of a date this is but at least it gives something besides "Late October"
