If the MapSend is not the plain one without POI's, but is either Streets & Destinations or Topo, then it's a better deal. Bear in mind that Magellan says they are bringing out a new map software package in the fall that should have better quality maps and auto-routing.

The MapSend software was Streets and Destinations. Not sure what version though.

  2. I hear you Marty. It is a pain in the A$$. I'm thinking that their is a timeout in place now. After a certain amount of time(whatever it is) you have to log in again.

Jeremy, is this a bug or is this the way it's going to be from now on?

  3. I had the same problem. After about 15 minutes I was able to log on.

  4. I currently have a Garmin Legend and I’m looking to upgrade to a GPSr that has more memory and a bigger screen. I’m hoping to get feedback from fellow cachers that are somewhat familiar with these two units. Any information provided will be appreciated.

I’m kind of leaning towards the Garmin, but I like the Magellan’s expandable memory concept.

  5. Not sure if this is a good deal or not. Sam's Club has a packaged kit that includes a Magellan Gold receiver, 64meg SD card, and the MapSend software. The price was a couple dollars over $300.

    Is this a good deal?

Make sure you check the box on the right of the cache description.

From what I can tell, the 76s is almost identical to the Vista on many things: same memory (24mb), very similar size, same waterproff rating, diaplay size is almost the same (the 76s has a .5 inch wider screen, so SLIGHTLY larger)....

The 76 series garmins are quite a bit bigger the the eTrex series.

  8. Make sure you use the correct "com port" for communication. In the program EasyGPS, go to the menu, File/Preferences, click the settings button and check the com port setting. If it's set to com1 try com2.

On your GPSr, make sure the interface setting is set to GARMIN.

I believe Clearpath is talking about the little triangle pointer on the map screen. Not sure why this is happening. Maybe it could be the slow speed of travel. (just guessing here)

Been to the Boundry Waters many times. Been a few years since I've gone though. I really love it up there.

  10. MapSource software cannot be used with the basic eTrex. It is not a map compatible GPSr. You can use the data cable attached to your PC for uploading geocache waypoints using this site and downloading *.loc files using the cache search engine. Download a free program called EasyGPS for uploading waypoints to your eTrex.

  11. I would like to have Dan's stats page back too. Or even better, work it into this site.

But as you know...You can wish in one hand and poop in the other, guess which one fills up first? icon_eek.gif

  12. I went with the Pocket PC route and think I got more bang for the buck. You can pick up a new Dell Axim for $200.00, for the basic. Or go all out and get the 400mhz 64meg model for a little more. All you need is one program to view the GPX file.GPXview

Use MS pocket streets and make pushpins for cache locations using a simple export command in GPXview. Works out real nice for me.
