  1. Awesome descriptive log! It totally painted the picture, and I'm sure the cache owner loved reading it, and appreciated the effort you did to find the cache. I've got to do a better job of writing my logs... You know what level your addiction is to geocaching when you make that kind of decision of go/no-go in those conditions!
  2. I haven't used this one on my profile yet, but try: Free Interactive Maps
  3. Really??? That CAN'T be right, can it??? There are others.. Some just post more often.
  4. Which LPC do you recommend that's in a historic location? I'll have to see if I've been there yet.
  5. I haven't seen a local event in some time.. I get them from the Groundspeak Weekly Notification e-mail. Is there any place else to look? There were two Buffalo Wild Wings events, one in late April in Amherst, and another in late June in Depew. Actually the days of both events there were pancake breakfasts in the morning also. So I guess that's 4 you missed since late April. I hear there is another Buffalo Wild Wings event happening in the future, so keep on the lookout. Oh, clicking "hide and seek a cache" on the left hand side of Geocaching.com, then go to "by State", and pull down New York. It will give you this list of caches and future events in the State are always listed first. I will definitely keep a look out. Thanks for pointing out about the events. Never knew I could look them up that way!
  6. The only thing I check are "Is Active" and "I haven't found". All other choices I generally leave unchecked to get as many caches as possible. Sometimes I'll restrict it to 10 or 20 or whatever caches when I'm traveling, since I know I'll never get to as many as I want to do.
  7. My wife, daughter, and I only have one gc account, so what I do is after the log is written, I'll sign it with which 3 of us were present at the time... for example: -LaxRef93 (dad, w/mom and Emma) or -LaxRef93 (dad only). They never go geocaching without me, so maybe it doesn't apply exactly to your question.. but as mentioned before, it's a game between you, your conscience, and the cache owner.. just have fun with it! Just don't log a find without having written your (or your dad's) name in a log book. Just like golf, do the honorable thing.. (there is a lot of false logging going on out there). Happy caching!!
  8. Happy Birthday! You got some great stuff! Honey, did you see what he got??
  9. See-toe although we don't do it as often as we should..
  10. Sounds like YOU took one for the team, in introducing someone new to the sport, and getting your buddy hooked on geocaching. Hope it's not too serious and you can get back out on the trials soon! If not, you can catch up on a lot of forum reading!

  12. I live in Clarence and was wondering the same thing. Sometimes I'll go out gc'ing with my sister, but her schedule is full alot, so it would be nice if others in the area were interested.
  13. Radak9, Can't wait to hear part 2! You're making me jealous.. I've been looking at the PN-40 from all the comments made on the forum, and every time I read something, I know that is what I want. I'm using a Garmin Quest right now, and a Palm Treo for the paperless part. Can't wait to get mine!!!
  14. I just had mine changed.. took about a week. Got an email right away that my message was received, and then just today got an email saying it was just changed. So be patient.. it will come.
  15. I've been a referee for Women's Lacrosse since 1993. Lax is an abbreviation for lacrosse (la-x, x for cross). Been doing both high school and college, although I retired for a few years, so I lost my college rating. Hoping to get that back this fall. Been back refereeing for the last 3 seasons after taking 5 seasons off.
  16. This was the turning point for me!!! Do this now every time. Also, when your 9-year-old is concerned that muggles are watching when we retrieve and replace caches.
  17. Great topic! I had just gotten a GPS for Christmas, and I remember being so nervous that someone would be watching or that I looked suspicious (it was a magnetic key holder on a guardrail at the end of a highway off ramp). But I thought it looked easy enough for a first try, so my daughter and I went out to look for it. Here is the log: December 30, 2006 by laxrefd3 (200 found) Got a GPS for Christmas.. this was our very first find! Thanks for a good one for beginners. Although, I thought today was the 29th, so that is what I marked on the log, but it's really the 30th.. oh well, I'll get the hang of this sooner or later! Dad and Emma As you can see, we're up to 200 now, but it's taken a little time. Got off to a slow start until I started paperless caching. My goal is eventually to get at least 1 cache in every state.. got 6 states so far!
  18. I put a PQ into GSAK, and then from there, you can choose which 10 or whatever you want to upload to Cachemate on the Palm. Works great! I tried using GPXSpinner, but found I like the GSAK/Cachemate combination much better.
  19. Just make sure that you log them in the order that you found them. Then the 400th will truly be the 400th.
  20. I've never heard of that. Is it a full semester type of class, or just a few classes? Must go on a lot of field trips!
  21. Excellent color.. I like that much better. Can the compass be bigger so that it goes to the top edge of the sticks? Thanks. It can be but then it wouldn't be round anymore. I tried extending the 45 degree markers and it looked silly that way. Ok.. thanks again for your help. I won't bother you with any more changes!

  23. Pocket Queries, and now they have a great Cache's Along a Route function.. much better than the old way. I've tried it, and it works great!!
  24. How about this? This is getting a lot closer.. the sticks line up almost perfectly like I thought they would.. I just don't know if the color of the compass is right. What do you think? I love the style of it, but is it too dark compared to the whistle? Maybe it needs to be about 25% or 50% transparent or something? Do you think it needs to be bigger so that the tips of the sticks are at the edge of the compass?
