  1. You need to be a premium member so that you can download your Finds from a Pocket Query. Then you put that file into GSAK, and run the FindGenStats macro. The HTML code from that macro output can be pasted into your GC.com profile, and presto! you have your maps.
  2. I have a Blackberry Tour that I installed CacheBerry on. I came from a Palm Treo with Cachemate, so Cacheberry took a little getting used to, but it seems like a nice program.
  3. Have fun! My daughter loves to go out with me too.
  4. Here is a snipit from that archived page: As of today, there are 11140 active caches in 98 countries. Wow.. 11,140 active caches.. today, just 7 years later, there are 899,127! That's a 7971% increase. Sometimes it is about the numbers..
  5. I just print mine from my computer... just started using them in the last few weeks. Can't put them on a nano, but still it allows me to show off my avatar.
  6. I got mine at Target.. Eddie Bauer edition, but it does have the cork handle.. it is around $20. So far it has served me well also. Eddie Bauer Hiking Pole
  7. Besides geocaching, one of my other hobbies is genealogy, so in my quest to document my ancestry I can't tell you how many cemeteries I have visited in my lifetime (probably hundreds). My wife and daughter (who is 9 years old now) have joined me every step of the way. We have taught my daughter how to show the proper respect in walking through a cemetery (i.e. not jumping all over the stones, running all over the place, etc.). She loves to look at the stones, help me find the ancestors I'm looking for (or the cache clues!), and learn about the history of the area. I can't say that all her friends in her class have that experience, but I for one am glad that she does! As others have said, if that is something that doesn't interest you, then filter the searches to exclude them.
  8. That's a good way to look at it. I always try to log results the same day. In the past, I have not been as faithful about logging DNF's as I should have, but after reading the various threads on the forums, my new policy is going to be the same or similar as others: 1. Hit goto on the GPS, 2. Arrive at GZ, 3. Search for cache, 4. and then log results.. either smilie or DNF. If for some reason I don't do 2 or 3, then I won't do 4.
  9. TRUE.. there have been a few. Which is why I like to put my finds on a watchlist until the next person finds it, so that I know it wasn't my fault that it was muggled! T/F: The next cacher plans vacations around available geocaches in the area they are visiting?
  10. I've only been to 2 house caches.. the first one I think I drove up and down the street like 10 times, and then decided I didn't want to do it. The second one was in the backyard of the house, and I almost left when all of a sudden the homeowners came home, and then I felt more comfortable finding it. They turned out to be very nice. But all in all, I think I would personally avoid them, so you may or may not get the traffic to them of a regular cache.
  11. I click on the gallery link and it came up ok for me. I'm on Firefox 3.5.2.
  12. I love GSAK, and like others have said, it's free with a delay, or costs for immediate access (I paid.. it's fairly inexpensive for what it can do). I use the FindGenStatsv3 macro, which is totally customizable (including 4 different profiles) to what you want to show on the stats page. And now they just added county information, so you can show maps by county of your favorite state(s). My profile is still a work in progress, but check out the "goals and stats" tab.
  13. Yeah, and unfortunately my first was a magnetic key holder on a guard rail! I've come a long way since then! My favorite ones were some that I've done with my sister. We didn't really hang out much (she's 9 years younger than me) until we started geocaching together.
  14. All I could get my brain to come up with was this I'm not sure I am happy with it..... Just a suggestion.. but this picture of the doctor looks like clouds and wind.. so this could become the clouds over the mountain picture he provided, and blended in above it. I would do it myself, but I'm just learning Photoshop.. took me 8 hours just to do my own, after some great ideas from Bittsen.
  15. I think the memory difference is the big selling point to me in price difference over having a compass or not. Thanks for the insight there.
  16. Why do you say that? Is the electronic compass worth it? Any other reasons? You have some good points, especially because you own both. That's a good idea to find a store comparing both and see the screens outside to compare.
  17. Check out this link in the Knowledgebase: Changing Usernames
  18. Hi.. I need a new GPS (currently using a Garmin Quest, which has served me well).. (well, I don't need one, but don't let my wife know that!) Anyway, BuyDig.com has the 60CSx for $285 free shipping, but it's older tech and doesn't really do paperless (although I do paperless now with my Treo to hold the cache information), but a lot of people swear by this unit and I am sure it will do well for me. The other one I'm looking at is the Oregon series (probably a 200 or 300). I don't really care about the electronic compass so much, so that's a nice-to-have for me. Paperless in 1 unit sounds nice. But with the price difference, should I be going for the 60CSx, or save more money and get the Oregon in the long run? Any advice would be great! (ps- I'm not really interested in the PN-40 because of the small screen size).
  19. My esteemed colleague TWU mentioned hearing of another event coming up in the future. At long last, I finally got the OK from the manager at my local Wild Wings, so the event has been posted. It's September 12 at 7PM. There are already a couple new people scheduled to attend, so it would be great if you could make it as well. Hope to see you there! Thanks for the heads-up. Just posted my RSVP.
  20. The summer here in WNY has been cool and rainy! Made for some muddy hikes!
  21. For my first few caches, I was nervous that people were watching, but not anymore. The only times I do is when the cache is at a residence. Found two like that so far. One in Salt Lake City (drove up and down the street about 10 times, but in the end, decided not to stop), and the other in Syracuse, NY (the homeowners were just coming home as I was pulling up, so they invited me to stop.. otherwise I probably would not have!). Something about lurking in someone elses yard, even when they say it's ok on the cache page!
  22. I've not seen that here.. what's a gc code that we can look at?
  23. Here is a nice summary of what needs to be done: Tracking TB's It also can be found by clicking on "Trackable Items" on the left-column navigation pane on gc.com. Congratulations on your first TB find! Addicting, isn't it??
