  1. You don't have do to a query with all the options.. there is a special "My Found Caches" query at the bottom of your saved pocket query page that can be run once every 7 days.
  2. I've been running 3.71 on my 450 and no apparent problems.
  3. Hi Neighbor to the east (I'm in Buffalo)! I see you're a premium member.. you can create a pocket query, and then just upload the resulting .gpx file directly to your 450. I just got mine a couple months ago, and LOVE it too!
  4. Did you change how many you were trying to capture? More than 500 will generate the download email. Less than 500 will automatically email to you.
  5. My daughter (who is 10 now, but we started caching when she was 7) loves to sign the log book now, so that is a good way for them to be involved.
  6. How many geocaches are you trying to download? Over a certain number, PQ's are only available via download, not email.
  7. Garmin Quest (2006) -------------- ~$200 (Christmas present) Garmin Oregon 450 (2010) --------- $291 delivered Zagg for Oregon --------------------- $14 Rechargeable batteries/charger ---- $60 Premium Membership to gc.com --- $120 (caching since 12/29/06) GSAK --------------------------------- $25 CacheBerry on Blackberry --------- $10 CacheMate for Palm ---------------- $8 Backpacks and daypacks ---------- ~$50 Gas / car ---------------------------- unknown, but I don't count that because I have to drive a car anyway. Time hiking, exploring, spending with family, and seeing parts of the world I never would have done were it not for geocaching --- priceless! like others have said...
  8. I first learned about geocaching when I saw a pamphlet for it at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, NY in the summer of 2006. I thought how cool would that be? The upcoming Christmas, my wife surprised me with my first GPS (a Garmin Quest). I found 4 that holiday weekend, and then didn't do it again for the next 7 or 8 months, until I discovered how I could use my Palm to go paperless.
  9. Upgraded with no issues. Was previously on 3.4, so I like the new geocache filter options.
  10. You go to Fieldnotes/Export, then it creates a file as listed on that screen. Connect BB to computer. Go to geocaching.com, and click "access your field notes" on the right hand side of the "your profile" screen. Choose upload from Colorado/Oregon, and follow the prompts on the website. That will upload a list of your fieldnotes, which you can then turn into logs. If you need more detailed help, let me know.
  11. I don't "send to device".. I "export" (under File on GSAK), which creates a gpx file which I manually move to the garmin/gpx folder once the device is connected to my computer.
  12. I just got a new Oregon 450 and I have a premium membership and use GSAK just like you. I have not had the problem you describe. All I can think of is when exporting to .gpx on GSAK, make sure you choose a 1.0 file and not a 1.1 file. Could that be causing your trouble?
  13. I would not. v8.0 on the DVD was the last City Navigator version where the original purchaser could get a 2nd unlock code at no additional cost for a 2nd GPS they owned. All DVD versions after that only come with 1 unlock code (good for 1 GPS only). Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks for posting this. I never knew this was possible. I have v7 and just bought an Oregon 450 to replace my Garmin Quest. A call to Garmin customer service this morning, and they unlocked my 2nd GPS.. you saved me $100 for having to buy more maps! Yes, I know v7 is old, but it still works, and most streets have not changed.
  14. Just ordered an Oregon 450 from pcnation.. $341 plus a $50 garmin rebate = $291 total price. no tax, no shipping.. will be here in 3 days!
  15. Hi mty55 yes I remember meeting you, and have seen your name on some cache's I found lately (including the Scout one in Town Park). I was debating between the 300 and 450, and I did see the $50 coupon, so I have to make a decision soon. What do you like about the 450 that the 300 doesn't have?
  16. I needed to get out of the house yesterday (I work from home) so I decided to go to a park nearby and do a little geocaching to get some fresh air. Title of the cache was Rock Garden, so I thought "Oh, that would be nice I bet.." Get there and it's very pretty.. small ponds, beautiful stone work. Get my Blackberry out of my pocket to read the cache description again.. when it happened! The Garmin Quest in my other hand flies out, and in movie-like slow motion, tumbles end-over-end to the ground right on the stone pathway. The Quest has an antennae that flips out and up, and sure enough that's what hit first, and it cracked the case of the antennae where it meets the body. I was in shock for the first couple seconds.. almost like I lost a friend. So now I guess I have to go back and read all those "what GPS should I buy" posts to figure out what I'm going to replace it with. The Quest still works, by the way, but the antennae doesn't flip back down anymore without some effort. I bought it 2 and a half years ago, so I'm sure it would be more cost effective to just buy a new one than to have Garmin repair it.. what do you think? Or the moral of the story is, just go paperless so that you don't have to use 2 separate electronic devices... Just thought I'd share..
  17. I'm the most famous geocacher in my family! Does that count?
  18. I was the FTF'er on this, and I wondered the same thing. Even when I place it in a new cache in a few days, there is no guarantee it's going to move again within the remaining 23 days. Because this seemed like a good teaching opportunity, I had sent the CO a nice email saying what was wrong with the cache, and that he would have a lot more people finding the cache than just the first one. I have not heard back from him yet (not really expecting I would though..) I had logged the TB as a taken from owner.. it was kind of funny, the location said something like "Currently out there somewhere" before I logged it. You're right though, I should have made reference to it in my log. Fixed.
  19. I add a field note on CacheBerry with a couple key words about the cache, surroundings, or anything else that was unique about it. This helps to jog my memory when I get home and write the full log with the regular size keyboard.
  20. 21. All the standing water in the woods is frozen solid, so you can make a bee-line right to gz.
  21. This is one of the main benefits that I have found.. there are so many parks, hikes, and areas around town that I've never been to before and would never have visited had it not been for geocaching. Welcome to the fun!
  22. Never knew that's how you spelled that! I've used cachemate for about 2 years now, and love it. Definitely worth the VERY small cost (like all the others have said). You won't be disappointed.
