  1. Any offers. I really don't want to arhive these caches as they seem to be well received and offer some beautiful views to people who bag them. I would love to hear from anyone who would be willing to help me out!
  2. Hi there guys and gals I have two caches in Fort William that I need adopting as follows: Loch Lichne Lookout & A Sylish View. If anyone would be willing to maintain these two caches or adopt them permanantley I would be very grateful. Many thanks Lynn
  3. Thanks for the info from all you who have replied, I too had noticed about other caches in the area being placed by people further away than me.
  4. Well it doesn't look as if there's much hope for my caches. Whilst I appreciate that the caches shouldn't have been placed, would it not be better to publish the caches so that people can find them rather than them just being left to deteriorate? A note could even be added to the listings so that any cacher finding them can either remove them and utilise them elsewhere or just bin them. The whole purpose of the restriction on 'vacation' caches is so that they don't become geotrash, by leaving them unlisted hence unfound, is this not what they have become?
  5. Thanks for that, an oversight on our behalf, we were aware of most of the rules regarding cache placement but hadn't noticed this one. Incidentally where do I find the scottish forums?
  6. We have recently been up to Fort William for a week and have placed a couple of caches near to where we were staying. These caches have been suspended on the basis that because we live so far away we can't maintain them if they get wet or damaged in anyway. This is due to the fact if they do get damaged they could become 'geotrash' thus giving geocachers a bad name. This is fair enough and something we weren't aware of as we have never placed caches away from home before. What we need is someone in the area to 'maintain' them on our behalf in case of any problems, if anyone would like to do this for us please let us know. At most all we would ask is if there is a problem, someone goes and removes them. Thanks Lynn
  7. Hi Guys and Gals Thanks for all your replies. Im sure this will help with my problem. Cheers Lolynn
  8. Bit of a technical question for you all. I have a Garmin GPS 60 and have found and set caches including micro caches without any problems in the past, yesterday we were out and set a few more and two of them have been found today but both 'cachers noted that her co-ordinates were out by between 50 and 100ft. I haven't fiddled with the settings since it was last used but we were wondering what the settings should be, I use British Grid (no magnetic variation). We have Memory Map as well and use this in conjunction with the GPS, again without changing the magnetic variation. This seems to be slightly out when we make a mark with the GPS and import it into Memory Map e.g. mark our street corner with GPS, mark shows in our back garden when imported. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers Lolynn Forgive me if I have posted in the wrong section, but I am new to the forums!!
  9. Many thanks to you all for your help and answers
  10. I have recently set a couple of caches. (I am new to caching - since Dec 06) and noticed that the cache finder took the co-ords, found the cache and made a log, which was a day after I set the cache. (Pretty good going I thought), I was quite pleased as I was not expecting anyone to visit my cache so quickly. Is there a way to find new caches using the search facility or is it just a case of having a look for new caches in the area were you are planning to go to? Would be grateul for any advice. Thanks
  11. My username for the the forum/caching came from my hotmail login but has been shortened as I could not be bothered to write: 'loquaciouslynn' all of the time. Loquacious means 'talkative' which fits me to a T as I never shut up. So so long from me............or maybe I could talk a little longer.....only kidding.
  12. Thanks for all your replies and helpful hints. I have since found a few more caches and placed another one. I placed my first cache on the afternoon of the 28/02 and up until now I have had 4 visitors. When I placed it I thought I would have to wait ages before somone came to log it, but the 1st one was the next day. I was well chuffed. I am in the process of doing some labels up to stick on the front of my notebooks for my caches. I am even considering hiding some microcaches (although probably not for a while yet) I keep dragging my husband out on the weekend (who enjoys going walking, but is not particularly mad on geocaching) but I don't think he minds to much as he can see how much I enjoy it and it is getting us both fit!! I am definately addicted
  13. Hi I am new to Geocaching. I got my GPS unit for Christmas and I am just getting to grips with it. I have got to say that if I realised how much fun I would have 'going geocaching' I would have got into it sooner. I went out New Years Eve and found my first cache and I was really pleased and got quite a buzz. I have so far looked for 3 caches and found 2. The one I didn't find I have tried to find twice, a fortnight apart and I was quite frustrated, but I am going to try again - I will not be beaten. I have been out today found a geocache and placed my own. I am quite excited to see how many people find it. What a great pastime and a good way of keeping fit. It is also nice to get out during the winter months as although it is quite cold; you can wrap up against the weather but you get lovely bright crisp days. Looking forward to speaking to fellow 'cachers' and picking up some helpful hints. LoLynn (a newbie)
  14. I am new to th whole 'Geocache thing', but would welcome and be grateful for assistance, especially if I was struggling. I wouldn't however want another geocacher to give to much away and spoil the hunt as it where. I have so far found only 1 cache, have been bought a gps unit for Christmas, but I have to say I found it very enjoyable. Lolynn
