  1. I run a pocket query and then download the PQ to my iphone while on wifi. Then make sure you open the saved PQ when you are hunting for the caches.
  2. I have a Magellan Explorist too and have never had the communicator work. Can't say I have had the problem of the computer not recognising the GPS. Have you turned on the GPS after it is plugged into the USB and selected PC? That is what I do, then I just copy a PQ across. Disclaimer - I'm on Windows 8.1, not 10
  3. Can you download the app to your iPod Touch? That is intended for mobile use.
  4. Your reviewer is your best guide on this and as they have suggested you take this course of action, then it is obviously allowed. I have never heard of an owner not being allowed to place a new cache in the area where they have previously archived one, but, again, work with your reviewer.
  5. Depending on what app you are using on your phone, you may see your current location coordinates on the home screen when you open the app. Otherwise, open a cache page, click on navigate to cache, then go to your hide location, and click on add a waypoint (how this works varies on different apps/phones) and take your reading there. Be sure to take multiple readings, giving your phone time to settle down. I like to take screenshots of various readings, then average the results. Another option is to make friends with a more experienced cacher and have them come with you to your hide location with their GPS and take readings with you. This is a great learning opportunity where you can get advice on your coordinates, feedback on your cache plans etc. Good luck.
  6. You could specifically say in your cache descriptions that you are taking a light-hearted approach in honoring certain cachers. That way we all get your context, something which is often lost in the purely written word.
  7. As a premium member you can do a Pocket Query and then just copy the files to your Magellan. That's what I do because I have never been able to get the communicator to work. Alternatively, try using a different browser.
  8. I messaged a cacher holding one of my travel bugs just the other day, thanking him for taking my travel bug on some exciting adventures but noting that it hadn't been near a cache for six weeks and would he mind placing it in a cache as soon as possible so it could continue its journey. Good luck with getting your TB moving.
  9. As a premium member you can also do a pocket query and then just copy the results onto your GPS. That's what I do with my Magellan explorist 110.
  10. A friendly message is definitely timely. Without knowing the circumstances, the cacher who picked up your TB may be a newbie who doesn't know what to do with it, or they may have some personal circumstances that have prevented them from dropping it.
  11. Do not log a find if you do not actually find the cache and sign the paper log. Just because you spent time searching for it does not entitle you to claim a find. Better to log a Did Not Find.
  12. I put in an address, including my country (Australia), and it takes me to caches in Dakota!
  13. That's a very subjective question. A good puzzle for me is one that I can solve, even if it requires a bit of work, and one that allows me to learn something new. On the other hand, my geo-husband would say that there is no such thing as a good puzzle because he likes to go to the coordinates and search. As a cache owner, I have one puzzle which I thought was relatively easy to solve and which some volunteer testers were able to solve yet, in the field, no one has solved it since it was placed several months ago. And I have a puzzle cache which I thought may stump a few people and it is solved and found fairly regularly (considering the size of our local caching community).
  14. As T.D.M.22 said, then return to your map, touch the new waypoint flag and select Set as Target.
  15. What on4bam said. Don't worry about the communicator. I have a Magellan eXplorist and simply save the GPX file to my computer, attach my GPS to my computer by USB cable and then drag and drop the file into the geocaching folder on the GPS
  16. If the menu button isn't working then it sounds as though you have a faulty unit.
  17. Kudos to the OP for coming here and asking the question. It may not be the answer he wanted to hear but now he has a better understanding of the game.
  18. I suggest these are questions you need to ask your reviewer - respectfully. And in future, ask your reviewer for a coordinates check before going too far down the track with your planning.
  19. As a CO, I would not be happy with you moving logs from one cache to the next just so you could ramp your numbers. (That is a generic "you", not accusing anyone in particular.)
  20. Difficult to comment without any specific info about the OP's situation, but personally, I have never had an issue with a reviewer. I appreciated the feedback and educational support in placing my first cache. Since then, I have found that by providing more information that I would have originally thought necessary, asking questions, listening to responses and treating my reviewer as a fellow human with a life outside geocaching (truly, I have to work to pay the bills), I have never had a problem.
  21. Gives new meaning to the term, gold digger!
  22. Assuming that you have tried turning it off and on, restoring default settings, then the next step would be to contact Magellan support. You may have a lemon
  23. Option 4: Learn a new language (tongue-in-cheek comment. I am a single language person!)
  24. The apps seem to only log on the server date/time. It's a common issue for us down here in Australia as well.
  25. I don't see a problem with submitting now and asking your reviewer to delay publication until a specified date. I have previously submitted a small series and asked my reviewer to hold off on publishing any of them until we had resolved any issues on all of them, and then to publish them all at the same time. Ask politely and the worst you can get is a no. I like your respectful approach to these people and your caches.
