  1. Which one is better ? Also picture clarity.
  2. Does Lowrance have any new info on Canadian topo maps for the Endura GPS units ? Thank you Hoytvtecmach
  3. Is there any word on Canadian Maps for the Endura Gps units. Hoytvtecmach
  4. What's the latest on these 2 units being available in Canada and any updates on the Canadian Topo Maps for these units ? Hoytvtecmach
  5. Regarding avalability of Endura Safari and Sierra . I live in Saskachewan in westwern Canada . I have tried to purchase an Endura Safari since last July . My local dealer GREAT NORTHERN ROD AND REEL in Regina usually gets Lowrance products directly from Lowrance Canada . My dealer is shown as an authorized on the Lowrance.ca website. He is unable to get the Safari or the Sierra models . Are the Canadian models going to be made different than the US models ? I know the Canadian topo maps are not available yet , however the units should still be available . Some Canadian internet retailers have these units on their websites but they do not have them in stock and have no idea when they will get any. The website does not state these will not be sold in Canada. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM???? Hoytvtecmach
  6. About 2 months ago I spoke to Lowrance Customer Service in Canada regarding Canadian software for the Endura Safari . He said it was scheduled to come out in March . Do you have any more info on this? Hoytvtecmach
  7. Sorry for the delay in posting a response, it has been a crazy week. Native20559 response to this question is correct, I will try to expand on this memory question. The Sierra does have a greater amount of internal memory, 4GB, about 3.5 GB is being used as cache memory and storing the Endura app as well as the more detailed base map information. The Safari has 1 GB of internal memory about .5 GB is being used for the Endura app and it pre loaded base map. It boils down that they both have approximately the same amount of cache memory and about 200 MB of user available memory for Caches, waypoints, routes, trails, photos, videos and music. What you will get when purchasing the Sierra is a more detailed base map, including 1.5 million more POI's than you would get with the Safari. If you are only going to be using this unit in Canada with the add-on Canadian detailed map card then I would suggest that you go with the Safari. I do not currently have the specs for the detailed Canadian map card so I can not comment on the amount of detail. I will post once I get the information. Thanks for the info Endura Expert . I will plan to buy the Safari as soon as the Canadian maps are available.
  8. Thanks for the info Native 20559 . I expect Endura Expert is busy and will respond soon. HoytvtecMach
  9. I am going to buy an Endura (Safari or Sierra) when they have Canada topo maps available . Is there any benefit for me to buy the Sierra with the extra 4 Gigs of memory or is the Safari sufficient for what I need ? I don't know whether the Canadian maps will have high detail. Thank you
  10. The gpscentral.com in Alberta is selling all three of them so I'd be surprised if that's universally true in all of Canada. It's quite possible that the mapping content simply hasn't become available from Acuterra yet for that area resulting in Lowrance delaying release of the Safari and Sierra products in Canada. Obviously all speculation on my part but still reasonable to suggest nonetheless. The real person to ask is a person who goes by the name of EnduraExpert here on the forum who is an employee with Lowrance USA. He should be able to answer your questions here next week or you can PM him for something a bit faster perhaps. For the time being hang in there. I'd be very surprised if they didn't release those products in Canada because it would be inconsistant with other previously released products which had Canadian maps (i.e. Freedom Maps). N As far as I know all three units are avail in Canada but I am checking just to make sure. I do know that we have not yet released the Canadian topo maps yet, but there is no reason that the Safari and Sierra should not be available. Thank you for the info so far . I will be waiting for a further update on the Canada availability
  11. My local Lowrance dealer in Sask just told me he spoke to Lowrance Canada and was told the new Safari and Sierra GPS will not be sent to Canada . Only the Out&Back model is available here . I am guessing it may be because there is no detailed maps of Canada for these units. I had one on order since July , what a load of bull. Has anyone else heard anything about this ? Hoytvtecmach

  13. I ordered one in July and am still waiting . Has anyone else had to wait long for one of these ? I live in Sask.
  14. I have had a Safari on order for over 2 months thru a dealer . They have been available from internet retailers in Alberta for 4 or 5 weeks . Has anyone from Saskatchewan got one yet ?
  15. I have a Lowrance ifinder I use for hunting in thick bush . I always use the electronic compass for navigating a trail or route . The reason is that the compass shows your direction of travel even when you are standing even if not held level .When navigating direction (east ,west ,north south is not relavent )If you use the navigate screen you have to walk several steps before it shows right direction to go . In thick cover thus can drive you nuts .I will never be without an electronic compass again. IN SHORT :THE NAVIGATION SCREEN ONLY SHOWS DIRECTION TO GO WHEN YOU ARE MOVING,THE COMPASS SCREEN SHOWS DIRECTION TO GO ALL THE TIME `STANDING OR MOVING. Hoytvtecmach
  16. I will answer my own question , yes they are . Also I spoke to someone at Lowrance who told me that the Endura series (Safari and Sierra) will come with Navteq street maps and Acuterra topo maps . The Canadian version of the topo maps will not be available until late September . They will be available on micro sd only , no downloadable version .
  17. Is the Safari model in stock in Canada yet.
  18. What kind of maps will these units use and where do you get these ?
  19. Does anyone know if these new GPS units will work with any Canadian topo maps ? The info on the website is not very specific . Maybe they work with the MapCreate Software. Hoytvtecmach
  20. If you hold the unit level or close to level you get an accurate reading . You also must have your orientation set to TRUE NORTH in order to match roads and streets ,and buildings .

  22. Is the free version of Oziexplorer worth installing on your computer ?
  23. Select a smaller area , that is probably way to much info to process for your computer at one time . Make smaller maps and you can load them easily. You have to realize that cities included in that area have a lot of information. If the card is a problem it will tell you tight away.
  24. [The compass works great , it just has to be calibrated once in a while especially when it is near metal for a while . I use the compass page on my iFinder hunt all the time . It is especially handy when you stop and start and move in all directions in thick bush . I will never be without it now. quote name=WR8Y' date='Apr 18 2006, 11:08 AM' post='2160244] I'v had my Expedition Color model (got it with MapCreate 6.3 TOPO) for a month now. I am really a happy Lowrance user, but I have to say that I am not too impressed with the Electronic compass. I will admit that I REALLY haven't used it, nor do I see the need for it (as I have a good detailed map loaded.) The steering arrow, which I use to find the parking lot on my way out of the woods works well - very well! (I set a waypoint as I get out of the truck, then navigate back to it at the end of the hiking day...) So, again, I really don't see the need for the compass - but WILL take time to learn to use it later. I 'calibrated' it twice and it seems accurate in the backyard - to within 10 degrees or so - most of the time. Perhaps my perception of direction isnt' all that good in the 9000 acre park I go to!!! But again, overall, I am a very happy Expedition Color and MapCreate TOPO user!
