  1. Yes it has finally been placed in a cache and hopefully the next cachers will handle it like it's suppose to. Thanks
  2. I am looking for some help or suggestions regarding an issue with a TB. In January 2015, I launched a TB in Burlington Ontario. After visiting several caches in and around Ontario, it made it's way to Ohio and Michigan. In June 2015, a new geocacher retrieved it from a cache and kept it. Then in December I received notification that someone in Germany found the TB attached to a Christmas gift. They gave it to someone, and in November 2016 , this person give it to someone while they were in Cuba. Again, this individual handed it off to someone who was travelling to Australia. Per the log, the TB went from Cuba to Cuso, to Machu Picchu, to La Paz, to Chile and to Antarctica. It is now in Australia. While the TB has travelled, the issue is - after it arrived in Michigan, no one logged it as found, the map track and distant travelled ended here. Is there any way "log" general stops in each of these countries after the fact? It's really annoying to have a TB travel this distance and have no record other than the logs.
  3. Like "geodarts" , I also use a similar solution. In fact geodarts help me last year to come up,with a solution. It works well. However, when my iPad dies, I will replace it with a Window based tablet, so that I have a USB port and can use GSAK.
  4. We all want to blame HQ for everything that we think is wrong with geocaching. However, as players, we have a lot of responsibility for what happens to the game. The quality of the caches is becoming an issue, and we are responsible for that. Film containers, pill bottles, plastic jars, thrown under a tree and activited. A piece of paper inside, and that's it. In some cases, the owner doesn't even respond to a " need maintenance request"? I'm guilty of putting some poor caches out there. Not only are they poor quality, but they have taken away a quality location where possibly someone could put a quality cache. I have some ideas for better caches, but the issue is finding a great location that hasn't been taken by a cache. How do we control this aspect..
  5. Yes I do the same. I was hoping there was a better way??
  6. I use a Garmin Oregon 600 GPS . The issue I have is that when I upload a group of caches for a given area, both resolved and unresolved puzzle caches are included. However, there is no way which ones are resolved when viewing them on the Oregon. Any suggestions?
  7. Puzzle caches are a lot of fun, but can be difficult to resolve. There are some sites that do offer some help. The one I use most often is the following: http://www.geocachingtoolbox.com Good lunck
  8. This whole thing is totally ridiculous . In fact, over the past few weeks there has been a number of criticisms of what Groundspeak HQ has been doing or not doing, that you wonder why anyone even wants to work there. Let's give them some credit and respect. Not everything they do, or don't do, is going to please everyone. If you don't like something they are organizing, then don't do it, or organize your own. If they don't make a change to the geocache program, then use something else like GSAK to obtain the results you like. Keep in mind - THIS IS A GAME!
  9. Unbelievable. Based on the earlier comments, maybe we should delete all geocaches with a difficulty or terrain rating greater than 1? Would hate to discriminate against anyone.

Thanks, after doing a little more research, I found it as well.

When I use bookmark to "bookmark" a geocache, the screen to create the bookmark, has a "Name" box, a "For List" box, and a "Comment" box. In the "For List" box, the only drop down option I have is IGMORE LIST. Is there a way to add additional lists? And if so, can you create PQ with these lists?
  12. Don't give up hope. Some people just don't understand how this game works. I launched a TB in January. It was in a race to see who could travel the furthest in one year. Well, my TB moved along until a young girl found it in June in Michigan. She was very excited, as this was her first geocache and her first TB. And that was it. She kept it. Despite several attempts to contact her via the message center, via email, no response. Then, today I get a message that someone in the Netherlands found the TB in a parcel he rec' d from this young girl! Go figure? Hopefully this person will find a new cache for the TB shortly. Too late for the race ( unless he drops it off before the end of December 31), but at least it's on the move again .
  13. With the geocache app for iPhone, do a search for the geocaches in the area you want to visit. Once they are on your phone, save them to an off line list. You can open this list without having to use cellular data, or wifi.
  14. We just got back from a 14 day cruise , and found at least one cache in every port. Lots of fun and met several other geocachers along the way. Left a couple of TB along the way, and they are now travelling in Europe. On our cruise various groups had prearrange meetings on various days. I think on our next cruise, I am going to see if I can host a geocache event on board. Would be interesting to see how many geocachers there are on board. Good luck
  15. I have released several TB with toys attached, and to date all but one has disappeared. Not sure if those who found them simply forgot they had them, or are collectors. The one that is still on the go has over 40,000 miles on it. It has gone from the Florida Everglades (where I released it), to the west coast, to Canada ( where I live) and is now in the Netherlands. I think the success of how far a TB travels is related to those who find them and how fast they deposite it in the next cache. I'm about to release five more TB while I'm on a cruise next month. Good luck with yours.
  16. I have been using Bing to download geocaches directly to my Oregon 600. Everything work fine.
  17. Yes, I've seen Garmin GPSrs get very confused with multiple files of similar data. A plan to keep old GPX files and overlay new ones, can work, or it can sometimes get a little crazy. It's best to delete the outdated files and load new ones as a set. Someday, I'll take my own advice in that matter. Thanks I appreciate the info
  18. Being new to geocaching and new to the Garmin Oregon 600, I have a question concerning PQ. Right now, I have several PQ, which I combine to cover a large area that we frequently travel to. However, updating an area means downloading every area, combining them and uploading the file to my GPS. Not a lot of work, but still takes time. My question is - can I have several PQ on the GPS SD CARD, and will the GPS recognize them as I move about. This way I would only have to replace the PQ file for the area that I am going to.
  19. Is any one considering organizing a CITO event in or around Oakville, Burlington,Hamilton area? I am relativity new to geocaching and would be willing to help organize an event.
  20. I want to thank Geodarts for his help and advise over the past few days. With his help, I was able to come up with a solution to my problem. The Kingston Mobilelite, geocaching with geosphere and icabmobile software work will together once they are configured properly. I can now do all my geocaching functions with my iPad and Garmin GPS without having to lug around my laptop.
  21. Thanks for the info. I like this solution, and will certainly consider going this route. I may be back in touch regarding the actual process you have worked out.
  22. Great responses and suggestions from everyone. However, I think I am going with the Kingston solution as suggested by Geodarts. With three iPads, two iPhones, and two i touches in the house, this solution will allow file transfer between them easier than using iTunes. Also, we travel a lot with our RV and last year we came across two campgrounds in the US thAt while they had Internet, it was Ethernet only. The Kingston G2 unit will allow us to connect to an Ethernet system.
  23. Thanks for the info. I like this solution, and will certainly consider going this route. I may be back in touch regarding the actual process you have worked out.
  24. Thanks for the response. I have looked at the Airstach devise. It claims you can connect to the wifi and your iPad at the same time. However, i yet to have anyone confirm that they have been successful . Also the Airstach in Canada sells for about $150. In this case I could buy the 7" Hp stream tablet for $120. It's a Window 8 tablet, and not only solve my problem, but also allow me to run GSAK which seems to be only available for Windows operating system. Again, thanks,
