  1. I am looking forward to the group management feature. I have a waymark that I submitted on 12/20/05 and haven't heard from the manager (who visits the site almost daily as far as I can tell) even though I emailed requesting guidance on how to improve the listing if it didn't meet his criteria. Last week I made another submission to a category and spent quite a bit of time on it. When I was getting ready to submit I noticed it was managed by the same individual. I almost just bagged it but thought maybe these will be transferred to someone else soon they will be up and running. I also am encouraged by the outline OpinioNate gave.
  2. Oregon Historic Markers will go live today. The state of Oregon only has around 100 "official" monuments so we are opening up the category to all historic markers inside the state. Special thanks to Volcanoguy for the ideas. As a history buff I am looking forward to learning more about the area I call home. Kudos to Groundspeak for where we are today and for what tommorow promises to bring. Thanks.
  3. The State of Oregon like other states has official historic markers throughout the state. I would be interested in helping with group management or ownership of this sub-category. Variables could include: Designation number, (ie, P13 or T4) http://www.oregon.com/history/oregon_histo...rkers_coast.cfm Url to the specific markers page on the web http://www.oregon.com/history/hm/bannock_war.cfm region in which the marker is located http://www.oregon.com/history/oregon_historical_markers.cfm A link to the information required for placing a waymark could be included on the more info/waymark placement page for easy research.
  4. Thanksgiving 2002 with family in Post Falls ID. My Brother in Law RvrRnr said "want to go for a walk". He had a new toy that he pulled out to show me. Then he explained his Magellan as he drove and put in a go to. Next thing I know we were trapsing around the lake and I have made my 1st find. Loved it. Talked about it alot and my own GPSr arrived for Christmas. Our family has been looking for these crazy things ever since.
  5. Does the station have one of those poles where the personel slide down when responding to a fire? Silly I know but you have all of the good ideas that came to mind already listed in your variables .
  6. Proposal: for category Earth Science Places Subcategory-SNOTEL Test Sites SNOTEL=SNOwpack TELemetry From the NRCS web site “The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) installs, operates, and maintains an extensive, automated system to collect snowpack and related climatic data in the Western United States called SNOTEL (for SNOwpack TELemetry). The system evolved from NRCS's Congressional mandate in the mid-1930's "to measure snowpack in the mountains of the West and forecast the water supply." The programs began with manual measurements of snow courses; since 1980, SNOTEL has reliably and efficiently collected the data needed to produce water supply forecasts and to support the resource management activities of NRCS and others.” Currently there are 778 Snotel test sites in 13 Western states. Each state has its own interactive map of sites Sample state map Each site has its own page which includes Latitude and Longitude coordinates. Cascade Summit Snotel Test Site Page They also have each site listed using Google Earth. Google Earth and NRCS Snotel Sites In order to place a waymark for this subcategory a waymarker must post at least two photos taken at the Snotel location, one picture of the test site with the waymarker and or GPSr included and at least one other photo of the best view from the test site. Variables would include: A link to the particular Snotel site page What state it is located in? Elevation What do you think? Anyone beat me to this idea?
  7. Hooray. Someone visited one of my Waymarks but there may be a bug in the notification of a visited waymark. It may be something on my end as well but all other Groundspeak notifications seem to work fine. Here is what happens: The e-mail arrives I try to open the link: Visit this log entry at the following address: http://www.Waymarking.com/logs/log_details...type=2&bname=my home&LogGUID=46a9f9dd-043b-42f3-91f8-cf71dd9a474e I get a error; Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. When I tried the next link: Visit the 'Roseboro Lumber (in Springfield Oregon)' waymark at the following address: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...type=2&bname=my home&WMGUID=5677ccc9-ab8f-490e-af5d-01fa61992e05 This takes me to the Waymarking home page. I took a look at the links and the first two lines of each are underlined and highlighted link blue. The third line of each of the links is not underlined or highlighted exactly like the examples above.. Apologies for not posting a screen shot but my abilities are limited. By the way...Thanks to all involved in development. The site is coming along great in my opinion. javascript:emoticon('') smilie
  8. This link is on the top and bottom of each page. My Waymarks Prev. << <[1 2]> >> Next The top one appears to work now... at least for me... but the one at the bottom of the page is still having problems.
  9. Hello, I live in Eugene. Eugene is overall a great place to live. Over the last 5 years we haven't even had the 40 plus inches of rain. The way it has rained this month that might be changing back to the norm however and we must remember it is the rain that gives us the green. I love Eugene.....for the most part. I love it for its beauty. I love it for its trails and pathways. Beautiful mountain ranges and ocean beaches are both within about an hours drive. I love it because of the rain and rainbows. We have a thriving cultural community if you like that sort of thing and college sports if you like that. There are a lot of alternatives here in Eugene my list could go on and on for positives. What I feel are negatives you may look at as positives. For example a conservative might be driven nuts by the constant push for environmentalism, social change, etc. that happens here. The liberal may feel that needful efforts are stonewalled by people who do not share their vision. I am being vague as to where I fit in, in an effort to give you a balanced view. We have anarchists that from time to time will go on a rampage and bust things up or burn them just to….well bust them up and burn them. We have police that sometimes may be viewed (by some) as being to aggressive and/or corrupt in their work. Others feel that they are hamstrung. I guess we have a facade of tolerance in Eugene. We tolerate anything until it crosses our personal little pet ideology whichever side of the spectrum it comes from. There is a laid back live and let live feel to Eugene that you don't get elsewhere though. Hiking boots, cowboy boots, and Birkenstocks are equally welcome in most of our restaurants including those that would be considered "fine dining" The Emerald Valley Cachers link provided in an earlier post is a great place to hook up with what I feel is a very nice cache community. Log into the forums and I am sure you will get some responses.
  10. I also think that logging your own cache is not normally a thing that is proper. However I have been tempted to log my own because of a situation that came up with an area cacher. Before I became a paperless cacher I had a printout of this cache on hand and found a cache using this printout. In the meantime I did not know the cache owner was in a disagreement with a reviewer and had moved all of his caches to another site. When I logged the cache my find was deleted and I was asked to log it at the other site. My thought has been to log the find on my own cache with an explanation and a link to the archived cache page. What about this scenario? Would this be a legitimate reason to log my own cache since I had a legitimate find using a former GC listing?
  11. The Washington Geocachers have a quick tutorial page that I found when I first started adding photos. Tutorial And another that I found called HTML for your cache page. It has other links that may be helpful. There are also free tutorials that can be found if you search for them. I was intimidated by the required photo's at first but am now thankful because it forced me out of my comfort zone. I actually learned something which I am enjoying (now) and I feel pleased with some of the waymarks I've worked on. Still not comfortable with forum replies yet though. Edited to fix links & clarify thoughts.

  13. Big Eddy said "I would like to see all stats in one place and have the ability to move seamlessly between games. There are more similarities than differences between caches and waymarks." Mr. Bean said "What he said."
  14. I had the same problem with the library waymark I created.
  15. I had the same idea a while ago. I vote yes. Include a history on the category page.
