Go the root webpage (www.geocaching.com) and do the search by state on that page. I noticed you get the map if you start from there, but not if you go to the 'Seek a cache' page and search by state from there.

I'm not posting this to submit an avatar, but instead I would like to vote. So here's my obligatory post so that I can be included.

Perhaps a stats page could be added as a premium feature for those that pay their dues. It could increase the numbers of those that pay for what they are using.
Personally I enjoy the stats, and like a little friendly competition. I also know that I will never be among the top cachers, but it is cool to know who those folks are.
Thanks for the Adventure.

Very good idea! I'd like to see detailed stats, too.

Please do. I'd like to see that.

I read that article in the paper yesterday and was going to mention it on here too. I thought they did a pretty good job on it. Definately shed a good light on the sport.

Funny and sad at the same time.

I do this too. I think a cool addition to this website would be a map of the United States. And then from your 'My Cache Page' you could click on it and it would show all the states that you have hit in red.

That's cool. I learn something new everyday on this site.

The button on the top right will flip you between your main screens. The little joystick thing on the front will allow you to select different things on the screen and sometimes change options. The top two buttons on the left side are for zooming in and out on the map page. The bottom button on the left is the same as selecting Find from the Main Menu screen. This should get you started. As was said before, just play around with it, you'll get the hang of it.

I realize that. I was refering to the fact that GW might not be considered "elected" by some people. Those people should then go back to school and relearn the electoral process.
Edit: Doh! Just realized this was an old thread...

I had never heard of this MapDekode program before. It sounds very cool! Doing a search on Google led me to a program called TrackMaker that interfaces with MapDekode.
I think these programs would be excellent for making maps of some of the local hiking trails.
I wonder if the .IMG files could then me redistributed, or if Garmin wouldn't like that?

I like the idea of being able to rate the cache if you have hunted. Maybe make it 1 to 5 stars right behind your name on the logpage. I think this has been discussed before, tho, and was shot down.
As for Garmin's. I've had very few issues with my Legend in tree cover. I think the problem's previous posters have had were user error.

They added 2 more. Five caches going now.

I like Dan's stats page too, and wish that it would be incorporated onto the gc.com website. I like looking at the stats for the states and seeing how many caches others in my area have found. Then when I find those other cachers I can look at their profiles and find out more about them, what caches were their favorites, etc. I think the stats are for more than just competition. Come on, put them on the site.

I like them the way they are now. I'd say just leave them as is and let people get used to the already new ones.

You can use a GPS to mark the greens on a golf course. Then on subsequent visits you know how close to the green you are +/- 15 ft.

I've got a '91 Jeep Wrangler that is lifted and has rather large tires on it. Because of the leaf springs on it, it is somewhat of a "rough ride". So I started using that nick on a Jeep board that I hang out on occasionally.

I like the new shininess of the new icons, but I have to agree with the people who don't like the smiley faces all over the place. It gets to be a bit much.

Very cool. I hope one of them is halfway close to me.

If you live in Arkansas there is a book out by Tim Ernst that tries to list all of the waterfalls in the state. It has a writeup, pictures, and even coordinates for each one. The book is called Arkansas Waterfalls Guidebook. You can read more about it here: http://www.cloudland.net/arkansaswaterfalls.html
Thanks to mooremonkeys for pointing this book out to me!

Maybe a rating system could be implemented. That way in areas where there were a lot of caches, after time the quality ones would rise in ratings and the non-quality ones would fall.

Ya, I didn't word that very well. I did plan on creating many of each piece and putting them in various caches. What I meant was that there wouldn't be 2 different pieces in the same cache. Gnbrotz, I like your idea of having 4 or 5 of the same piece in a cache. I'll think about that.
As far as the bogus coordinates go. That does sound like it would work. Too me it seems kinda like a kludge tho. I still wish there was a better system in place to account for ideas like this. If you had a "hidden" type of cache, the approvers would still know the location of the cache and could disapprove other caches that people tried to place there.
Thanks for the ideas!

I was thinking about making a signature item that basically consisted of a 4 piece wooden puzzle. Only one piece would be put in a cache at a time. So someone would have to visit caches that I have visited to collect all 4. Once the puzzle was put together it would reveal the coordinates to a seperate cache, which would be well stocked. Now I'd also like to list that new cache on Geocaching.com so that the online logs, etc. would still be there. But obviously it would not be desirable to have this cache show up on the search page. Is there currently a way to do this now? Or would it be possible to set up a new type of "hidden" cache?

That's cool, but how do you get rid of the Globexplorer watermarks? Also, I take it your area has the one meter resolutions available.
