  1. This is true, but Geode Hunters have had the same problem as me and have gone to a no-log option because of the trouble of maintaining a logbook at some of these busy areas where the signs are located. I have 12 caches on signs in Kentucky and have already archived one and probably will archive the rest of them eventually because it is too hard to maintain a logbook on theses signs (Many are located on busy town squares). This kind of Cache/Waymark is perfectly suited for waymaking. I myself do not like going to 2 sites for info, but this is what the sport is going to and we might as well embrase it.
  2. Category Proposal Morgan Raiders Trail Markers A number of state to include Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio have placed markers/signs where battles and other historical event took place during the civil war. This group could fall under signs or historical places.
  3. When I got my City Select, I also got a GPS18 with inroute solfware. After installing everything on my PC I had the same problem loading it into my Map60c so I called garmin support. It turned out that the code I had for the unlock got coded to the GPS18 and Garmin had to come up with a new code to use in my Map60c. You are allowed to use the City Select in two GPS's but Garmin has to give you the second code. Not sure if this is your problem or not, but Garmin is very good at walking you through it.
  4. Sure. Upper Peninsula. Then somehow through Michigan (we haven't yet decided about the exact route) and back to Chicago. myce My wife and I spent a week last summer in the Upper Peninsula and had a great time. At the time I had a cast on one leg. Most of the caches up there are close to the road and there are not many micros which make for easy finds when you are traveling. We especially enjoyed any and all the caches that were at light houses.
  5. When I go on long trips I to am guilty of the cut and paste thing. When I returned from a trip in the Blueridge Mountains of North Carolina I had 100 plus caches to log and it took 3 plus hours. I put in the generic copy and paste statement and I do add a line or two about the particular cache if I can remember. Having 100 plus cache of my own, I too often get the generic cut and paste and would enjoy at least a line or two.

  7. Oh Yeh, I forgot about this group: KYOWVA Kentucky, Ohio, West Virgina Geocachers http://www.kyowvageocachers.org/
  8. The closes group to you is OKIC which stands for "Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Cachers" They sometimes meet in Ashland. Below is their link: http://www.okic.org/
  9. How many stars would the frozen niagra be in geospeak? I have a 5 year old and her feet tend to "go to sleep" on the longer hikes. I would like to see that one but Im unsure about taking her That tour would be fine for young children. There are a few steps at the begaining, but the tour is pretty flat. At Frozen Niagra you have the option of looking streight out at it or taking stairs down under the falls. I would give it a 2 to 2.5 stars.
  10. Mammoth Creation Earthcache GCNEJP The first part of this cache is an easy walk from the camping area, you can hike to the second part or drive down to a parking area that is close by. There also is a virtural at the train that is right next to the camp ground. A real neat cache to do is BIG MOE which is just outside of the park. Enjoy
  11. It is a real big help if you cache with a laptop in your car.
  12. I can't make it to AZ anytime soon, but I have a GPSmap60c and I use GSAK or their is another progam called EasyMPS that you can download from a british website. It is real simple to use, the hardest part is finding the web site. Good Luck.
  13. I agree, I attended the first one and had 9 finds at the end of the day. Last year I got on a wagon train and logged 115 caches in 12 hours and this year I brought the familly and only did 35 caches but had a great time. You really need to come to one of these events to understand, just like geocaching, there is something for everyone.
  14. Close. Actually I think JoGPS is the cacher who came up with the idea. It was a great one. They stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam home run. See this cache to find out some interesting facts about the first one. It has sure grown in three years. GCP7C8 GEO-WOODSTOCK ONE
  15. That is a great area. I would recomend any cache placed by NC_Ron&Dianne. Also if you want a real treat you might want to go a little futher East to the below cache. It is a true five star with 900 foot elevation climb and 3 ropes to climb. GC4981 Pather Tail Perch
  16. That was probably my fault. When I first started this thread I used that number. I was just stressing that there was a good number of caches that were going to be gone and I never sat down and counted them.
  17. In closing, I wish you all the best in this endeavor and hope you fair better than others. Hopefully things will change at this park and we can all enjoy it together.
  18. Before Jan 1 the below link will tell you what rules were followed. They are quite extensive. http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx And I will save you the time to tell you I am sure there were a few that were placed in gray areas. So is the nature of being human, We are not all perfect hence my earlyer comment about someone throwing trash down in the park. It does not make sence to throw everone out because of a few.
  19. Everyone's POV is important on this issue. I just feel you might be missing out on a few points. Geocachers were following the geocaching guidelines as far as the caches placed in the park. The areas that caches were placed were not off limits to Hunting and a few other activities so those areas had caches placed as well. Then after the rules were change the caches were just yanked without anyone trying to contact the owners. As to the permit process IN THIS PARK. There have been two applied for and to date one is tentatively approved but not finalized and the other was approved but yanked anyway. Not the way you want to treat welcomed guest. We did not start the permit program, but DNR did and they now need to follow thier own rules and approve or denied the caches in a timely matter. In this park that is not happening and we as a geocaching community feel we are not welcomed in this park, so until we see this attitude change, we will stay away. It might sound ridicules, but how would a person like to have to get a permit for a picnic on a holiday weekend (because a few people littered and they wanted to keep up with where everone was) and after several months the permit has yet to be approved and when it was approved, only 5 were allowed in the park even though there are 200 plus picnic tables in the park and when you get there you are only allowed to picnic within arms length of a picnic table. Do you feel our pain yet?
  20. What would you think if they outlawed picnics on holiday weekends because there were just too many people showing up and some folks were throwing grabage on the ground and it was a inconvenience to go around after the holiday and pick up.
  21. Sounds to me like they are starting to get desperate and are now trying to get someone to visit THEIR park.
  22. I got one and my son VR Turtle got one we plan on putting them out on the 6th of June in the area of my Turtle Trek 2 and 3 but they will not be as hard of a hike. Look out around the 6th for them to post.
  23. I agree, it's the old Ford versus Chevy in a new form. I use a Garmin Map60c and I know the funtions better on a garmin unit. I am sure everyone that started off with a Magellan feels the same way.
