Well it's not raining here, but I could put one in the tank part of the toilet for fresh water, and one in the water softeners brine tank for salt water. Results to follow.
You won't be putting that one in a cache later will you ?

Snowwolf75 mentioned acrylic sealer, I've used that on past projects. You can use them on ceramics, over paints, bisques, antiquing glazes, documents, prints, wood, glass, metal, cast resin and stains.
I had made some large turtle stepping stones one year out of plaster of paris (more for garden decoration). I used a glossy acrylic sealer by PLAID. Two days later it hailed and although all my stepping stones survived they were very pock marked. Doing other projects using the acrylic sealer, they held up to rain, snow, and summer heat. I used about 3 spray sessions. Short dry time, reasonable price. It comes in matte finish also. I use it more for a fixative these days not a outdoor sealer. Just my 2cents again. Just buy some clay and do some test projects/coins, see what you like and don't like.

If it's held in Chicago, maybe Oprah can host the event. We could get her to do a whole show on geocaching, geocoins, etc. Maybe we could even get her to do it to coincide with her, "my favorite things" show. But instead, she gives away new state-of-the-art GPSr's, 24k gold geocoins, brand new ammo cans, PDA's, etc.
Chicago seems pretty central (hope I can find my way around). Depending on the dates, I'd like to attend. I think the Hawaii folks should start planning a 2009/2010 event Gives the rest of us an opportunity to save up for that trip.

I've only used FIMO once (experimenting with Pearlex), it's kind of spendy for just that tiny square. I think if you made them thicker, they would hold up really well. Try doing a google search to on clay projects, see what the "experts" say.

Well looks like she went and got it, now where's the story fairyhoney?

Im having a Signature Item Event on the 17th and Im having an auction of sig items for fun. If you want to donate your item(s) just send me an email to get my address any donations would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I looked at the event page and I'm just curious; it doesn't mention anything about an auction and where is the $$$ going if you sell sig items?

We had a local sculpturer/artist come into the sign shop this afternoon needing help on completing a rush project that he was working on. I ended up having to stay after work a few hours while his stuff printed (since he had to have it installed by 7:00AM tomorrow morning!! )
While chit-chatting I mentioned that I designed coins and showed him some of the stuff that I had designed that is posted on one of the trading sites.
He started asking about different metals and how they were created, to which I basically said, "Uh... I DESIGN coins " and that the mints did all of the actual production of them.
He told me to come by his shop after this week was over and he'd show me how to make my own coins. He said that he had all the stuff to carve the molds and melt the metals down and give them different types of faux finishes. I'm so excited! Hopefully I'll be able to make something cool looking for some short run signature items!!
One day I'll get around to making my own personal coins to share with you guys.
I just can't make up my mind on what to immortalize for "my" coin.
I've only deisgned like 6 different ones so far!!
I like them when I design them, but after I go back after a few days and look at them again, I end up tearing them apart and redesigning it. I've got the "'possum Pete" coin(See my avatar), the "Sonfish" coin, the one with the '69 Camaro on it (my all time favorite vehicle), another one with an art painting pallet & drawing tools, one with our city's symbols the Clocktower & CapitolineWolf (Would be really cool looking in 3-D), and another one which I'm not gonna say anything about, because it "may" be the anchor coin of a new cool collection series project.

Gridlox,
Sounds like fun! I'd like to see what you come up with. There is something to be said for doing the whole process yourself. I realize not everyone is creative or has the "tools" to make their own items but I find there is a lot of satisfaction in the whole process. I worry a bit too but hey, it's all a part of the "game." Have fun with it.

I made some good headway today on the petroglyphs. Everyone likes free stuff right? So in the spirit of sharing, I'm going to have a contest for each one of the petroglyphs throughout the week.
Tonights contest is for "Big Dog" (horse).
First one to post correct answer wins.
What does my geocaching name represent/mean (tsunrisebey)? The answer can be found.
Guess I forgot to mention, of you win 1 contest, you're not elegible to win any others.

I think I could get a few more petroglyphs done if you are interested in them. I'm leaving in May for Belize (staying with Mayan tribe in the rainforest) to study their culture and local biology. I can try to get 3 out to you by end of April. Pick out 3 and email me your mailing address. I'm really backlogged with this whole process I set in motion.......lol. I need to quit reading these dang coin threads. Someone take my computer away from me
