  1. I almost stopped Geocaching due to the grumpy old farts around here. They know it all and seem to have the desire to try and demonstrate that thru their posts. I stopped going to geocaching events so I wouldn't have to put up with them. Now the wife, the kids and I just don't bother talking or associating with them. It's really too bad that some people are like that.
  2. My son placed kidz caches at local schools and they stood for a couple months until someone complained that they felt like a pedophile while locating the cache. Being a Kidz cache they should have had their kids with them when they did the caches and this would have made it acceptable. They were only interested in their stats though and didn't like that they would be mistaken as the above. Too bad, it kinda put a spoiling taste in my son's mouth for Geocaching.
  3. I'm having just as much fun placing caches as I am finding them. I focus on a theme for a cache and go with it. Fill it with things that fit that theme and find a location that fits the theme. Then just wait and watch what others write about the cache. Some fall flat and some are exalted.
  4. I place a gift certificate book for Tim Horton's in my first cache but after finding nothing but crap in FTF's I've gotten I don't do this anymore.
  5. I totally hear you on this topic. Both the wife and I spend time in the dollar store picking out cool little trninkets and fun little puzzles and things to place in our caches only to find caches filled with scouring pads, ear plugs and other useless and throw away items. I take the time to make cool FTF & STF certificates only to find crap caches when we go to new ones. We have only recently started Geocaching and find this to be one of our pet peeves about the sport. People will rush out and throw whatever they don't want in a container just to place a cache. No theme or thought involved. ARGGGGG!!!

    New Cache

I placed a new cache over a week ago and it still does not show up yet the travelling Fraser Valley Transport shows up. I don't understand? Is this like all those other boards that is governed by friends and their caches first?
  7. I was in one of the seedier parts of town at the end of the road in a kind of industrial area. I was attempting to find a microcache somewhere nearby. I'm new to caching so I'm playing with my G.P.S. attempting to figure out where I'm supposed to go. Well the cache was located inside a cablevision cord running up the side of this pole where it connected with another cablevision line. So I'm concentrating on this micro and unscrewing the connection. About thirty seconds goes by before I'm able to unscrew it and I do this little victory dance.....I look to my left and there is a Mountie in his car staring at me quite intently...... I've got an end of a cable cord in each hand....I've got about three days of growth on my face and the knees of my jeans are muddy from kneeling and looking under things for this cache. He had never heard of caching, I showed him the log that was in the micro and attempted to educate him on the sport for the next twenty minutes. He couldn't grasp the concept but let me go without taking me for a psych consult.
  8. Hi everyone. My wife and I are new to this sport and thought we'd come in to check out the forums. Glad to see your a lively bunch. Oh yeah while all you were writing back and forth we went out night caching and found four tonight. This is a blast!!! It's something that both me and my wife are having a hoot doing together. Can't beat that. I've found places only miles from where I live that I never knew existed, and the ideas that people come up with when hiding their caches. Fantastic. We look forward to meeting some of you if you can tear yourselves away from this thread and come out. We drive a 89Cherokee four wheel drive. It's got six inches of lift with a big winch on the front. If you see it come over and say hi. Jim & Pam Briar, 2-4-Fun

    Icons

We're new to the sport and don't know what all the icons listed beside the different caches mean. Can anyone clue us in to what the red checkmark etc mean? Jim & Pam Briar (a.k.a. 2-4-Fun)
  10. H'bout mental scars. I've gotten a few of those from some puzzle caches. LOL The latest was the Class 5 Combo (GCZYZG). I think that the nightmares will follow me forever.
