  1. Send me your mailing address and I will check on it - use the link on the coin description page for email. Also have some of the 2005 Rally coins available as well if your are interested Dale
  2. I'll take ten for whatever the price - and also please take this as advance notice that nine of the coins will be put on ebay and all proceeds from the auction will be donated to the daughters fund... can you find out if the fund accepts paypal transfers?? You may ask whomever you are going to have mint the coins if they would consider giving a discount for such a worthy cause - many of the coin makers are now realizing a nice upsurge of business from geocachers and the current coin collecting craze - they may stand to gain more business from those who appreciate that a particular coinmaker is "giving back" in a sense to those supplying his increased business.... worth a try anyway. I certainly would mention the coinmaker on ebay if there was a discount cost of the coin for this cause.. he gets additional free advertising!
  3. As many people have emailed me wanting to drop their requests for the Nevada coin, as the southern Nevada group of geocachers have come out with their own Nevada coin - I am dropping this one as I do not care to invest heavily in something that may not even break even.... and many people do not care to purchase two versions of the "Nevada state coin". Can't blame anyone but myself for the long delay in getting mine produced... that's life right?? Thanks Orange Hippo
  4. From what I thought, and I went back and reread the thread, that this design was a suggestion from Maverix. It was posted only as a suggestion. No one either confirmed or denied the design. Orange Hippo was fronting this thread, but he had been laid up medically is why this sat for so long. The last word on artwork was OH's post of Nov. 6th saying artwork would be coming. I guess it did! That is the coin from the geocachers in the southern part of the state - Las Vegas area... Nevada has two large geocaching groups... centered around the two largest metropolitan areas - Reno and Vegas Politics in this state are about the same - split North / South I learned about their coin a little while ago - not sure what the other side of their coin will look like exactly - if what I was told by one of their members is what they are going to use - the wording is "Nevada desert geocaching - not for the timid" which is a very real statement in many parts of this state. I hope they do well with their coin. I don't see any reason why it should not be a very nice coin to have along with the one I am getting produced. Orange Hippo
  5. Yes they will - contacting GC tomorrow
  6. Getting back into trading these addicting coins... Geocoin Trade List Orange Hippo

Hello everyone - sorry for the very long delay for this coin - mending pretty well - many thanks for the concern.. Artwork is at the minters of the coin - will be posting what it looks like soon Orange Hippo

  9. We had several (10 I think) that went out from the GBES Navigational Rally banquet May 21st. LilDevil worked it out with Jeep that the GBES Rally was the initial launch point of the first Jeeps... Next year maybe you could join us at the 2006 Rally and see what we have ;-)
  10. Reminder . .. If you want to have me reserve a certain amount of coins for you... please send email to NV.geocoin@*@charter.net REMOVE the * and one of the @ when you do - trying to cut down on spam! I will start send an email back to you to confirm I recieved it. Thanks
  11. There will be a special run of pure silver coins - very limited run size... as Nevada is The Silver State!
  12. I have started a new thread regarding Nevada state geocoin I'm going to get into production within a couple of months in case anyone wants to get their "pre-order" in.... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=100327
  13. I am seeking design ideas from Nevada cachers as to what you would like to see on a Nevada geocoin. (Of course others are welcome to make suggestions too, but as this coin is for Nevada I'll look at nevadan cachers input first ) I'm also going to keep a spreadsheet for folks that want me to note how many they would like to purchase when it is minted. As the GBES Rally coin design seemed to attract some attention, I hope the Nevada geocoin does even better. To keep this thread somewhat manageable - if you want to have a # of coins reserved for you please email me at NV.geocoin@*@charter.net - REMOVE the * and one of the @ when you do - trying to cut down on spam! Ok Nevada cachers - ideas please!
  14. Only 200 of each version - and no reruns will be minted
  15. Several have asked for photo of the GBES coins I have available for trading. Front is the same for both coins - back is different - one has "snow" on the background mountain.... the other has the typical brown rock/dirt color of Nevada desert mountains.
  16. I have two dozen GBES 2005 Rally "white snow mountain" version coins, and many more of the "brown desert mountain" version of the same coin that I would like to trade for other coins. Also have a few 2003 Oregon coins, both numbered and un-numbered. Please email me if you have coins you want to trade. What (few) I have in my collection: California 2004 Georgia 2005 Nurse Dave Texas 2005 Idaho 2005 Michigan 2005 N. Carolina 2005 Oregon 2003 GBES #1 2005 GBES #2 2005 Thanks
  17. Thanks to the tremendous work of Monty ( drofrockology ) - the State of Nevada and it's department of tourism is promoting geocaching! Monty is too polite to toot his own horn - so I am doing it for him. On behalf of all the members of GBES - and geocachers everywhere - Thank You Monty! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MAY 17, 2005 Contact: Chris Chrystal Nevada Commission on Tourism cchrystal@travelnevada.com www.travelnevada.com Nevada Commission on Tourism Joins in Geocaching Rally Desert Event Will Challenge GPS and Navigational Skills CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT), which promotes geocaching as an outdoor adventure activity, will join in the 2nd Annual Great Basin & Eastern Sierra Geocachers’ Navigational Rally May 20-21 in Fallon, where enthusiasts will test their skills, Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt announced today. Gov. Kenny Guinn has proclaimed May 21 Nevada Geocache Day to showcase the event, a friendly competition that will introduce many of the geocachers to rural Nevada. An NCOT staff member will participate as a rally official. “Geocaching is an ideal adventure activity for Nevada because the wide-open spaces and desert environment are well suited to searching for hidden treasure,” Hunt, NCOT chair, said. “It’s a popular tourism activity that embodies Nevada’s adventurous spirit and introduces participants to recreation on the public lands.” The rally will begin Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Soda Lake near Fallon and end the first round at 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles club at 7977 Reno Highway, which is U.S. Highway 50 in Fallon, about a half-mile east of the city’s historic Ragtown area. The second round will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Eagles club and end there between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Geocaching is an internationally popular “techno” treasure hunt in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) electronic device to track certain coordinates and find “caches” where sponsors have hidden prizes or trinkets. There are 166,528 active caches in 214 countries, as reported on the Web site www.geocaching.com, and more than 1,600 geocaches buried in Nevada’s mountains, desert, historic mining towns and urban areas. One site is at NCOT, at the Paul Laxalt State Building, 401 North Carson St., Carson City. The coordinates are 39 degrees 09.973 north latitude and 119 degrees 45.989 west longitude. “We think of geocaching as a tourism attraction because it draws so many visitors to explore Nevada’s dramatic high desert landscape,” Bruce Bommarito, NCOT executive director, said. “Geocaching fits with NCOT’s marketing and promotion of Nevada as an adventure destination because it is challenging, competitive and perfect for experiencing the outdoors.” Thirty teams comprised of at least 60 geocaching enthusiasts traveling by SUV, Jeep or other four-wheel drive road vehicle will navigate their way around a challenging course near Fallon, seeking 50 caches or articles hidden in the desert at certain coordinates. Participants will earn points for each cache found and for keeping up with the brisk pace. Nine prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place each day and for the overall event. Most of the participants are visitors from California, Event Director Monty Wolf said. The rally will donate all proceeds to Fallon Families First, a nonprofit organization for the victims and families of the Fallon Leukemia Cluster. Rally participants pay a $100 fee, so the event could raise more than $6,000. Editors: Contact Monty Wolf, event director, at 775-884-8000 (KPTL Radio in Carson City) or by e-mail, montywolf@gmail.com. News media are welcome to attend the rally. Note four-wheel drive vehicle requirement. For more information, visit www.phantoms-lair.com/rally05 or for general information, www.travelnevada.com, and click on RV/Geocache. Although they got the "buried" part wrong - it's great to have the backing of your state for your hobby!!!
  18. Just wanted to invite the SF Bay Area cachers to come over the mountains and have some fun in the Nevada desert a the 2nd annual GBES Navigational Cache Rally - check it out - http://tinyurl.com/44pcg Also - this Saturday, March 12 there is a "rally school" event being held in Sacremento to help everyone understand some of the items in the rally such as off-set waypoints etc. GCN02Y "Rally Skool" at http://tinyurl.com/4ns9b and later that evening a geocaching Laua in the Garden dinner - http://tinyurl.com/6x6kj Come have some fun !
  19. Ah HA!! I remember seeing you doing that!! Moonchaser (my navigator) and I looked at each other in total amazement when we saw you RACING back the opposite direction of everyone else! " Were the heck are they going?" Also wondered if you had just figured something out that we hadn't and maybe WE were going the wrong direction ... they did say people were going to be going different directions at times - but 180 degrees and at high speed??? I wondered about that for a good part of the day!
  20. You might ask WildOats about mid-road rock avoidance procedures... of course she failed that class last year ... did get a nice trophy for her wall though! ( hehe - couldn't help myself Jenn!)
  21. For everyone's information - The tow company is Superior Tow & Transport - (775) 352-1580 if you ever need their services.... and if you have a chance please call them & leave a message for Ty the manager.. to thank him for their support of the rally - thanks.
  22. Nothing to be scared about - well - maybe "Pucker Canyon".... but as long as you just stare straight ahead and don't try looking down the side of the 75 degree cliff to the bottom 500 feet below you'll be fine... except of course that one place during the night rally when your headlights are sending messages to the stars and the "road" drops the opposite direction... but I digress.. The 2005 Rally is going to be absolutely fantastic... It will leave you wanting more and requesting to sign up for the 2006 event right then and there... and also for the others that are in the works...opps! - not suppose to be leaking information out ... should not have typed that!
