I originally loaded 3 states, and recently tried to load some other states and it is prompting me to purchase an upgrade. I would think that after paying $140 a little over a year ago that I would not have to pay an additional $75 upgrade fee just to load additional areas. Can anyone shed some light on this??

Thanks all!! I did know what GPS stands for, but wasn't sure if Garmin wanted to make more $$ by requiring a map download for EU. : )

I am going to Switzerland and Italy, and was wondering if I have to do anything special in order to do some Caching there? Do I have to load EU maps or does it just work from the Satellite?

I loaded some Caches for a Florida trip that I will be taking in a couple of weeks, and it looks like they didn't transfer over, but I am told that since they are so far from my home the device doesn't display them and I was also told that there is a "Find by Name" feature, but I cannot find it on any of the menus. Anyone know what the deal is with this?

Jakethebrowndog, same thing happened to me, but I wasn't able to use GSAK either. If you find anything out, let me know and I'll do the same.

Red90, I think it is a driver problem....I don't the choice "GPSr is USB". What ever you can do to help me--I would be grateful. Come to think of it, I had some issues with my PC and it seems that it started after that. Nightstalker, As for the EasyGPS, it was working fine and then it just stopped...don't what the problem is--maybe the driver problem here too?

you sure can i do all the time. get your pocket query to GSAK. then export to magellan explorist. works great. good luck ric I loaded the GSAK and I'm getting an error also that it can't download Comm 1 and tried the other com3 still same response. Tried other USB ports and still no luck. There must be some software that is easy to use.? Was diong fine with EasyGPS until it stopped working on me. I have Garmin eTrex Legend Cx......how do I use for this unit?

No, I have the eTrex Legend cx

The basemap is useless and for the cost of the EU version you can get the US version plus tons of maps. I live i the EU and have a US based 60CX. The best all around unit so far. I'm going to Europe as well and have the Garmin eTrex Legend cx and was wondering if it is worth the $300 to get the City Navigator Europe or is there something less expensive out there. I already Purchased City Nav US.

Dont quote me on this. You should be able to download updates from garmin for your software package. I just had the same problem with Mapsource. My version was'ent giving me the detail, so I called Garmin, they had an updated version I need to download ( for free) to get my software to work. Of course I could be wrong, as I am still wet behind the ears with the GPS...Jeff I appreciate your input! When I went to the Garmin site, I didn't see anything higher than v8, which is the one I bought and the cost was $75. I sent Garmin a nasty gram, but they don't support on the weekends. I am going out of town today and really wanted to use it. This should have been a no brainer as far as I am concerned and Garmin needs to get their sh#t together. I have dowloaded software plenty of times and it is a glitch with Garmin not me!! Thanks for letting me vent!!

I have a Garmin eTrex Legend cx and I purchased the City Map North America v8 from Gander Mtn. When downloading I got a message from the Garmin site that said there was a newer version on the site for DL. The site had v8 for $75 (already paid $148) but nothing higher v8. Can anyone shed some light on this? I am taking the DVD back to Gander Mtn, because this doesn't seem right to me. Tried Garmin tech support, not in today or tomorrow.

I guess I wonder why they include the Waypoint Mgr---doesn't seem to really accomplish very much, and yes I really need to have a better understanding of how to use "Way Points". As far as the Geo Caching...do I need to do anything other than pay for a membership on GeoCache and download the ones I want?

That is correct, you need to buy the map discs or DVD's which can run around another $100.00 or so. I don't think you can auto route with just the basemap but I might be wrong. Thank you for your input!! Can you tell me which one(s) I would want to purchase? I looked at the Garmin site, but there are so many to choose from....any help would be greatly appreciated! Maybe it would be better to go to a Gander Mtn type store and talk to them?? I do have another ? I am new to this Geo world .......I just purchased this unit, which included the DVD Trip Mgr.....however, on the CD case it states "Product does not include any detailed maps.....not able to DL map detail". I thought this is what the DVD is for....so now I have still purchase another piece of software in order to map a route to an address????
