  1. Of course, you're screwing up the Will Attend/Attended ratio, which is a nice thing to have when planning future events. I've done what 2Wheel'in suggested a few times, but I agree with Prime Suspect. I think it's nice for the event host to have all of the original logs because some of them have other notes in the will attend besides just an RSVP.
  2. Having it go away when you've posted an "Attended" log for it would definitely work. I could interpret the 30 days in 2 ways. 30 days from posting or 30 days after the event. If you mean 30 days from posting, then it could end before the actual event and then it no longer serves as a reminder. If you mean 30 days after the event, I'm not sure that I see the value in going that long. If someone attended then they could have it disappear by logging as attended (if that was set in place). If someone didn't attend, then it just gets in the way and they have just missed the event and they don't need a reminder. I personally log my events attended on the day that I attend the event, but I realize not everyone does. Possibly just leaving it only a week after the event or immediately after posting an "attended" log would take care of the slow loggers.
  3. I really like the "I plan to attend" feature for an event reminder. However, I would love to see this feature changed so that it disappears the day after the event is over instead of 30 days after you posted that you plan to attend. If you're an early bird and get your plan to attend note out there too early, it could disappear before the actual event. Also, I would like to see it list the date of the event instead of the date that you posted your note. Upon receiving this week's Groundspeak notification email that suggested emailing them with suggestions, I emailed this suggestion. I got a reply back thanking me for my feedback but requesting that since this would be a concept affecting all geocachers, they wanted me to post the suggestion here on the forums, so I'm doing so.
  4. I went to add another bookmark to my FTF list and it said that I have reached the limit of 100. That's strange, because I already had 195 in that list. What has changed?
  5. I want to nominate Geek-Qualizer too. He keeps the Houston area entertained and in touch with each other with the forums of hgcs.org. He's also great at promoting geocaching. He takes out new geocachers to introduce them to the sport. He's great at helping out with computer and other technology questions. He treats all geocachers and geodogs with lots of compassion. We are lucky to have GQ as our friend.
  6. D_Able_Cachers, So you're saying to bring 1 geocache into GSAK, then send it to the Geocache manager. This will create 1 file. I can see the initial setup would be time consuming, but daily or weekly updates won't be that bad. If I do this, do all of the geocaches show on the map screen at one time, or do I have to select a new file whenever I go to the next cache?
  7. We recently got a Magellan Explorist 500. We loaded a set of "geocaching points" and it shows the caches close by. However, I'm told that you cannot delete individual caches from this file. That's what we would like to do. Normally, once we have found a cache, we delete it from the GPSr and move to the next location. Leaving them on would get really confusing. I have manually entered in a few POI's. These we can delete at will. 1. Is there a way to automatically download multiple POI's from something like a GPX file? This way we can have a faster input. 2. We are considering buying either Mapsend Topo 3D US, or Mapsend Direct Route NA. We want to be able to see the streets and how to get from A to B. In Houston, the topo is not that critical. Any recommendations?
  8. We always like to push our weekend caching well into the evening even after the sun goes down. Well, having done most of the caches in Houston, we spent one day going after some local letterboxes. We pulled into the parking area for a dog park and proceeded to find 2 letterboxes just into the woods behind the park. We were signing the last log and we heard the Sheriff announce over the loudspeaker that the park was closed and we must leave immediately. Well, we looked over and he was sitting right in front of our car (the only one left) with his lights blazing. After a few minutes walk, we approached the cop and he asked where our dog was. We told him we didn't have a dog with us. He then asked why we were parked at the dog park without a dog. Barely keeping a straight face. we explained letterboxing. We also explained that we had looked for a sign at the entrance stating the park hours, and didn't see one. Anyway, the guy was really nice and let us go on our way, but I just know he was running our plates through the system....
  9. I have heard that the "circling" that you mention is common with the Magellan series of GPSr's. I have a Magellan Gold, and it happens to me also. It doesn't seem to matter whether the North reference is true or magnetic. It takes the Magellan several minutes to average into the proper location. I have found that by stopping about 100' to 150' from the cache and noting the direction, that I can hone in much quicker.
  10. We had 4 FTF's in 1 day, but the one we're most proud of is a FTF that we ended up driving 170 miles, 5 parts to the multi-cache and about 8.5 hours of elapsed time to do the cache. It's called Krugerrand Run. The FTF prize was a .25 oz Krugerrand. WooHoo! Also, that same day, we did about 4 other caches along the way.
