  1. Just be aware that rubber stamp logs make an awful mess in the logbook if it gets damp, making other entries illegible as the ink runs. May be worth reconsidering...
  2. That's all very well, but when I'm looking at the map which shows where all the caches in a particular area are, there is no filtering for size and I have to open up each one seperately to see if it's a micro or not! I know I could run a PQ but the map has the advantage of quickly seeing where they all are at once. Such a waste of time when I could be out there finding boxes!
  3. A golden rule with TB's - never make them out of anything valuable or sentimental. They are bound to disappear eventually. I've lost 40% of mine.
  4. I only ever use ammo boxes on my puzzle caches, so it makes it more difficult for a causual thief. None gone so far...
  5. I've just grabbed back some of mine from GCD653 OK!
  6. I've got an idea. Why not simply gather up all the Kent micros and stick 'em in this box. Then blow it up!
  7. I'm still puzzling over why you need to keep the lid screwed on. It's not going to deter any muggles who would take the entire box! If you're worrying about people not signing the log, just put a number inside the lid and ask the finder to email it to you otherwise their log will be deleted. It all seems a bit unnecessary to me...
  8. Over 3 years - TB's 40% lost, Coins 70% lost That must tell you something. My very first geocoin disappeard at the second cache it got to, but another one has been logged 118 times, mostly in Finland. Says a lot for the honesty of the Finnish people! As others have said, forget geocoins and make TB's as valueless as possible!
  9. As I took mine from the old lady who was giving them out I said " You have absolutely no idea where this is going to finish up". She didn't seem to understand...
  10. A menacing looking pit-bull type of dog once came galloping towards me at full speed, so I crouched down as if to make a fuss of it. You should have seen the dust coming off its paws as it screeched to a halt with a look of "what do I do know?" on it's face. This has been a very interesting read as although my wife owns a dog, I don't particularly like them, or their habits. The fist down the throat bit worries me though. What happens next? How long are you supposed to keep it there?
  11. This would be a very good idea as I think the problem generally stems from ignorance, especially on the part of new cachers. A few of these have popped up near me recently and when I emailed the owners politely pointing out the problems cause by plastic bags, they said they hadn't really thought about it and had no idea it was discouraged. Nobody here has mentioned custom-made camo bags yet. I have used them on occasion and they do keep the cache box nice and clean for the first year or so, until the pull-string breaks, but I have had one or two disparaging remarks in the logs, although most people do seem quite happy with them. I would be interested to know the general feeling out them.
  12. Many people "dip" their TBs or geocoins into caches to record some mileage or just to record where they have been so the route they have taken shows up on the map. Such logs can be rather annoying if they are not deleted afterwards. Can't really see the point myself!
  13. Why don't you simply email the owner and ask for a clue as to where it is and mention that you are uneasy with it and why. Most cache owners will be only too willing to help and that will soon settle it for you.
  14. Stupid website! The page times out, you refresh it, then you get a double post!
  15. Who's the author - Charles Forrester then?
  16. That'll teach me not to hit the refresh button!
  17. The only negative thing I've found about Invisible Shield is that it sticks to the inside of the clear window of the neoprene case that I keep my GPSr in and it makes it difficult to see in poor light without the backlight on. If you don't use a case, you'll probably be OK.
  18. That's what I did when I was there. Most hire cars come with sat-navs as an optional extra. Got me to my caches OK and it saved all the hassle of buying maps and upgrading!
  19. One problem is that the email we get saying that a bug has been moved doesn't say whether a photo has been posted along with it and it's not always feasible to look on the web-page to check each time. I only ever go through my TB logs once a month or so, so if a photo has been published, I won't see until then, hence a late thank-you!
  20. That sounds familiar. Greek seems to be the popular language here! (he knows who I am talking about!)
  21. I appreciate that the mods do a great job in the little time they have and I don't expect them to correct spelling mistakes on new cache pages, but could I ask that some of the horrendous spelling which has been seen of late is pointed out to the setter and corrected before a new cache is published? Just one of my pet hates - sorry.
  22. I think Luke's comment underneath sums it up pretty well!
