  1. Did you use auto-routing to get to the cache site? If so, did you remember to switch to off-road navigation once you got there? If not, you were probably still pointing to the spot on the road closest to the cache. I hate when I do that myself!
  2. FYI - You can select waypoints in MapSource, copy them, and paste them into nRoute. No need to go through the GPSr.
  3. I recently upgraded from v6 to v7. I've noticed that certain areas where I know the maps weren't quite right in v6 have been tweaked but I haven't had a chance to verify if they match reality any better. I did notice that the auto-routing seems to be a bit smarter, at least when routing between my home and work. The POI database for my part of the world also seems to be a bit more up-to-date.
  4. Some have. Others, like myself, prefer the button placement on the 76 series.
  5. I would certainly be interested in a Mac application that does the things GSAK does.
  6. Of course, nothing says you have to park as close as possible to the cache. You can turn any cache hunt into a long walk.
  7. Also something to keep in mind... the highest 5-star terrain rating usually means special equipment (i.e. boat or climbing gear) is required to get to the cache and has nothing to do with the length of the hike.
  8. Here in Minnesota, we have a cacher who maintains this graphic representation of who has run into who.
  9. Sadly, probably the best Mac software to get for geocaching is Virtual PC.
  10. There are fewer and fewer computers in use every day that even have floppy drives.
  11. What's the best GPSr to use? Who makes a better pick-up, Ford or Chevy? Seriously, email my through my profile with mor details, like where you would be working, lifestyle, etc., and I may be able to give you some tips.
  12. By far the best advice in this thread! Kinda goes without saying doesn’t it? Hey that $4000. boat sure looks nice, Ill take it! Not necessarily. Most people I've talked to that have never been in a kayak don't realize that no two kayaks handle and feel the same. Rather, they think a kayak is a kayak. When they ask me what they should look for, I tell them, don't "look", "try".
  13. To expand on this a bit... the skeg is usually dropped only when paddling with a cross wind to aid you in going straight. In general, the skeg is left up which makes the boat much easier to manuever.
  14. I can't think of any caches in the Twin Cities that I would be concerned about going to alone in the day time. There are a couple of "cruising" areas that may or may not make you feel a little uncomfortable at times but I've never heard of any actual problems. On the other hand, there was an incident last year where a cacher stumbled across a very terratorial homeless person who fired off a gun into the air. This happened in an area that would in no way be considered a "bad" part of town and I wouldn't hesitate to cache alone in that area myself.
  15. Yes, you can use garmin Mapsource (Topo, MetroGuide, City Select) etc. via VPC on your Mac, but you will only be able to transfer data (waypoints, maps, routs, tracks) using a USB>serial adaptor.
  16. It's not THEM you are saving from their stupidity.
  17. Consider getting Virtual PC and a USB>Serial adaptor and load your own maps at will.
  18. Do you NEED one? No. But many of us find it more convenient than carrying reams of paper print-outs and maps into the field.
  19. I was concerned about this too before getting my 76CS. The Garmin color screens are amazing. The more sunlight, the better!
  20. One thing I've learned is that if you paint the tube, mask off the O-ring. Solvents in the paint will ruin the seal.
