  1. 0800 is a freephone prefix. As far as I am aware all landline providers have to provide access to these numbers free of charge. Edit - link to Ofcom's website
  2. New York City has a very good transit system, I just had a look on Google Earth and there seem to be a few more caches now than when we went in January, but I think you could do all the Manhattan ones in 5 days (excepting the 5/5). The problem is there is so much other stuff to do... Check out Squealy's little bits @ Central Park and Bryant Park Micro when you are out there, they are both good, and Bryant Park Micro will lead you to an NGS benchmark for a nice new icon on your profile. In response to the OP, I am contemplating trips to a couple of places I would never otherwise visit if not for caching opportunities. Also, when on holiday I always make the effort to grab a few caches, wherever I go.
  3. Is there an accepted convention for multi caches? Some people tend to place a several stage multi cache and list it as a single cache, whereas others seem to list each individual stage on GC.com as a multi in its own right. Is there a right or wrong way of doing this, or is it just a case of do as you see fit?
  4. Typical that Microsoft call a feature which makes text blurry "ClearType"
  5. Congratulations to Pat and Jeff on racking up 2000 finds in what I believe is record time, thats 4000 vinyl gloves in circulation thanks to you guys
  6. I rated mine using the ClayJar system and it comes out as 5/5, finders to date seem to agree. ...Lost in translation
  7. The panels are made by Iowa Thin Film Technologies and have several distibutors in the USA They aren't as cheap as rigid solar panels, but the flexibility and weight saving more than makes up for it in my book.
  8. I saw an article on the web about a guy who built a flexible solar charger for his ipod to stick on his rucksack I looked into it a bit to see how much it was for the parts he used and there is a price break at 20 units, so I reckon I could get the bits for around £20 - £25 including postage from the states if 20 people wanted them. Anyone interested? Stick it on your back or rucksack while out walking to get a bit of charge for all those power hungry gadgets! Think I would lose the gaffer tape and go for some velcro on mine though....
  9. Between starting this topic and the archival of Mission 12, Mission 7: Crab Creek was also reported missing and subsequently archived Only 2 APE caches are now left worldwide, find one while you can!
  10. I've lost a few of my trackables at events. I know there is a risk in releasing trackables, but at the end of the day there is no reason a trackable should go missing from an event. I personally believe that if a bug/coin goes missing from an event that is down to the cacher who took it there. If I take a trackable to an event I make sure I know who has taken it away so I can tell the owner should the worst happen. If people want to log it for the icon then fine, when they are done I make a point of placing it in the hand of someone I know will log it properly and move it along rather than just throwing it on an unattended table in the corner with 50 other bugs.
  11. One of those teams was us, after our log we received an apology from the setter for the mistake. As I said before, its no big deal when things like this happen.
  12. Its happened to me before, I just came home. Not the end of the world, eh?
  13. I think <embed> tags are now stripped from cache pages. If you have it working on your cache page it will go as soon as you edit anything. You can still include music, but I won't go into details or I'm sure you soon won't be able to!
  14. Not really, when there are too many bugs to display them all on the cache listing, the link below them all says So, like it says on the tin, when you click it you will see all the bugs currently in the cache, as well as the history i.e. all the bugs which have ever been in the cache. If the OP looks at the cache listing in question, Im sure next to their coin the location will show as being in their hands, not the event Edit - With a little detective work, I would like to hazard a guess that the coin in question is Rixy's Yorkshire Geocoin, which does indeed show as being in Bhod's possession, not the event.
  15. When I look at people's profiles, all the icons for caches found are in a different order. Is it just me? What gives??
  16. Go ahead and do it, then list it as a traditional. I bought a big ammo can, filled it with Planet of the Apes goodies and placed it at the site of Mission 10b here in the UK. Its a replica not an APE cache, so why should it carry the icon? Everyone seems to like the APE caches because of their rarity and the story behind them, to unarchive a long gone cache and award people the icon for finding a close(?) replica would cheapen the whole concept in my eyes.
  17. The co-ords for the KML are intentionally varied to prevent automated scraping of the data. I think you are also limited to maybe 200 refreshes within 24 hours, so if you scroll about too much it will eventually stop working. As others have said, if you download a gpx and open that in GE the positions will be correct.
  18. I think "no forced adoptions" is a bad blanket policy to have. As other have said, a cache archived for non maintenance will just end up dead in the woods. If cache owners are non contactable and someone else is willing to look after a cache then I think the reviewers should be able to consider doing a forced adoption. I adopted the first cache I ever found, the owners were non contactable and when someone posted that it was in real need of maintenance I didn't want to see it archived, so I asked to adopt it and a review transferred it to my account. Under the new guidelines it would have just been archived and probably still be rotting away there now.
  19. LOL! We are in the process of putting together a cache with exactly the same concept as this! I also wondered if this would be ok so bounced the idea off our esteemed reviewers and was told it would be ok as long as no files have to be downloaded
  20. Well, its all installed but has screwed my audio. I tried a hard reset but that hasn't helped. I found out which files tomtom has overwritten to stop my audio working, is anyone who hasnt installed tomtom6 able to email me BtCoreIf.dll and BtSdkCE30.dll from within the windows folder of your pda?
  21. No, the second half of the video is of the placement of this cache which is a plaque in the same location, commemorating the worlds first geocache
  22. On May 30 2000, a new name was coined for the hobby. Matt Stum suggested "geocaching" to avoid the negative connotations of the word "stash". Copy and paste from The History of Geocaching
  23. Found of Dave Ulmer's first ever geocache on YouTube. See how it all began!
  24. Just got tomtom 6, gonna install it tomorrow and have a play. Anyone using it? Is it any good? Whats new?
