  1. but you've done a CITO... haven't you? Yeah, and at the time it was the last icon we needed for a full set, then they created the mega event. We are headed out to Holland to attend a mega event on April 14th, which I have since realised is CITO day 2007.
  2. Looks like its listed as an event cache, rather than a CITO event. You might want to get a friendly mod to change it for you.
  3. Saw your log for the cache, congrats on the new icon! Can't be many UK cachers who have attended a mega yet Seems odd that some events have to start out normal and go mega, whereas some are listed as mega from the start. Just like last year, we are going to have to wait until CITO day to finish off our cache icon collection, until they create another new cache type that is.....!
  4. I can't find an official one either, just this wiki entry. I originally found this info on a plaque attached to a machine which smashes pennies at Cadbury World in Birmingham
  5. Yeah, if by "the moment" you mean 26 years ago. The Coinage Offences act of 1936 was the piece of legislation which prohibited, amongst other things, the defacing of any current coin. This was repealed in its entirety by the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act of 1981. You are free to drill your coin as you see fit (without fear of fine or imprisonment )
  6. Closest I've seen is DeViDe #100, $100 Cache Not really in the same ballpark...
  7. After leaving you all to it for a day I thought I would check out what has been said, all I have had so far is a few emails from people to go on. Certainly seems like I opened a can of worms... Firstly lets clear a few things up, Im not saying camping events are like orgys and attended solely by nymphos, Im not saying you shouldnt take your kids to a camping event and Im not looking for a witch hunt or any other outburst of vitriolic criticism towards any individuals. Some people seem uncomfortable about this thread, in which case I suggest you look elsewhere and find a moan about micros or a missing travel bug or some other mundane issue which isn't too *real* for you. I'm not going to rake through everyone comments and post a follow up, but I will indulge this one: My concern is that people who would otherwise have considered attending camping events dont feel comfortable doing so because of what they have heard goes on there. Regardless of whether or not they are likely to encounter anything which they have heard about is somewhat immaterial, the fact is they have heard enough to put them off. This spoils it for them and for others who would have enjoyed their company had they attended. This concern is based upon an actual occurrence which I experienced when asking some other cachers if they fancied attending a camping event with us, there is no surmising involved. I have no problem with consenting adults getting up to whatever they fancy, but there is no reason for details of what they have been up to be broadcast to others and enter the public domain. As people have said this then starts gossip and before long lots of people know about it. At normal events I have heard people exchanging gossip about who did what to who at recent camping events. How would this be interpreted by cachers who had never been to a camping event? What would you have thought if you heard all about it at the first event you attended? Is this a good way to portray the activity of geocaching and camping events in general? Just because you may not have heard such things being discussed don't be naive enough to think no-one has, and while I will be the first to agree that most of what people hear is gossip I am under no illusion that its grounding is based very much in reality. Part of being an adult, as well as consenting to whatever you are happy with is also being responsible enough to consider the ramification of your actions, not only for yourself but for others. Just because you find something acceptable doesn't mean everyone will, and when dealing with such issues it would be wise to exercise a little decorum. Keep what should be private private, and if you cant do that then dont do it at a cache event.
  8. I'm sure this topic won't go down well, but lots of people feel strongly about it, so something has to be said... Lately several people have told me they don't plan on attending any more camping type events. The reason? They are uncomfortable about being there due to the trend of swinging/bed hopping and general display of loose morals which some cachers display. Personally I feel if you want to indulge in that type of activity then thats up to you, but to do it at caching events where the majority of attendees are not there for that purpose is somewhat selfish, especially as these actions are now making people who would normally attend turn away from the events. I'm sure some people will be totally in the dark as to what I am talking about, but enough people are in the know for me to feel that this issue has become public. The fact that people are aware of this and know it is going on means the people who are choosing to do it are not keeping it quiet or being discreet enough about their actions. Geocaching is meant to be a family friendly activity, and such behaviour hardly falls into this category. If people want to throw copious amounts of DNA around in the company of cachers thats their decision, but please do it in the privacy of your own homes, not in the tent next to/belonging to another team of cachers at an event. It disrupts geocaching, brings a tainted feel to events, causes friction between cachers and will no doubt end up with (possibly innocent) people getting hurt.
  9. You don't *need* a boat, its not fenced off to a high security standard or anything. Just make sure you pick the correct side to walk down!
  10. No unpowered craft are allowed in the tunnel. Also, if you get onto the tow path its pretty run down and very wet in places, wear wellies or something.
  11. If you have tomtom on a pda why not install another app for geocaching? I use beeline gps but there are loads about.
  12. Maybe Im misunderstanding this, but if there are services run to the island as Paul says, then how can chartering your own transport make the event a no go? Its a bit like saying "I would have approved your event at the pub, but I heard you and a few mates planned to share a taxi there"
  13. I have managed to get sequential waypoints. Open a few tabs in your browser and have each one ready to go so all you need to do is click submit, then do them all quickly. Go back afterwards and fill in all the info. Might be worth picking a time where most of the USA will be asleep to make your chances better.
  14. Is there a mega event happening in Feb? I can't find it... Need that icon....
  15. Why does everyone think achieving its mission matters so much? Its not like a normal TB where there is a cacher sitting at home whose day it's going to make when it reaches its goal. The locations chosen have obviously just been chosen at random, many of them are hundreds of miles from any caches. The point is surely just that they travel rather than arrive somewhere. I got mine, looked at the custom TB tag and decided there is enough info on there (and a web address for anyone who wants more) for me to not have to worry about people not knowing what it is. While everyone has been sitting here reading this thread wondering if they need to spoon feed information to people who are quite capable of finding it out themselves I have been out and set mine free
  16. I get their mailings yet have never purchased anything from them directly. I have my own domain so unlimited email aliases. Whenever I have to input an email address I always use an alias which identifies who I was giving the address to, from this it would appear they got my email address when I applied for a geocoin activation code through their site. I don't remember anything to say my email address would be used for marketing, but I may have missed it. As far as I was aware it was only supposed to be for them to email my activation code to me.
  17. Min'es arrived, destination Viet Tri, Vietnam Good luck I say!
  18. IHMO, if you put the contents in the box originally you should never log a find on the cache. I don't care for the half arsed "someone else moved it over 100 yards from the original location and I had to look for it" excuses some people come out with
  19. Go to a mega event and get back a full compliment of icons (until they add another one!)
  20. If that is your view, why did you post? Or did I miss the nice part?
  21. I don't think you need to suspend caches. The police will cordon off any area they are interested in, as others have said its just about common sense. If we start to temporarily suspend caches near the locations of murders then London will become a full time cache free zone!
  22. Here's a link to the coin cases available at Lidl from Monday 18th December Its lockable, holds 205 coins and costs a tenner. Might be of interest to the coin collectors out there
  23. I doubt it. The TBs are already made, and the sign up only opened a few days ago. Seems they show up as being a geocoin when in a cache, so if there is another coin in a cache they are placed in the pile of coins icon shows beside it. You can check out this profile to see all 20,000 of em - there is a bug for Windsor, bet I don't get it though!
